The rice endophyte Pantoea ananatis AMG521 shows several plant growth-promoting properties and promotes rice yield increases. Its draft genome was estimated at 4,891,568 bp with 4,704 coding sequences (CDS). The genome encodes genes for N-acylhomoserine lactone (AHL) synthases, AHL hydrolases, hyperadherence (yidQ, yidP, and yidR), fusaric acid resistance, andoxidation of lignin, highlighting its biotechnological potential

Characterizing affect dynamics with a damped linear oscillator model: Theoretical considerations and recommendations for individual-level applications

    Get PDF
People show stable differences in the way their affect fluctuates over time. Within the general framework of dynamical systems, the damped linear oscillator (DLO) model has been proposed as a useful approach to study affect dynamics. The DLO model can be applied to repeated measures provided by a single individual, and the resulting parameters can capture relevant features of the person's affect dynamics. Focusing on negative affect, we provide an accessible interpretation of the DLO model parameters in terms of emotional lability, resilience, and vulnerability. We conducted a Monte Carlo study to test the DLO model performance under different empirically relevant conditions in terms of individual characteristics and sampling scheme. We used State-Space Models (SSM) in continuous-time. The results show that, under certain conditions, the DLO model is able to accurately and efficiently recover the parameters underlying the affective dynamics of a single individual. We discuss the results and the theoretical and practical implications of using this model, illustrate how to use it for studying psychological phenomena at the individual level, and provide specific recommendations on how to collect data for this purpose. We also provide a tutorial website and computer code in R to implement this approachThis work was funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (ref. Delayed-State Information Filter for Cooperative Decentralized Tracking.

    Get PDF
Abstract-This paper presents a decentralized data fusion approach to perform cooperative perception with data gathered from heterogeneous sensors, which can be static or carried by robots. Particularly, a Decentralized Delayed-State Extended Information Filter (DDSEIF) is described, where full state trajectories are considered to fuse the information. This permits to obtain an estimation equal to that obtained by a centralized system, and allows delays and latency in the communications. The sparseness of the information matrix maintains the communications overhead at a reasonable level. The method is applied to cooperative tracking and some results in disaster management scenarios are shown. In this kind of scenarios the target might move in both open field and indoor areas, so fusion of data provided by heterogeneous sensors is beneficial

RNA-seq analysis of the Rhizobium tropici CIAT 899 Transcripitome shows similarites in the activation patterns of symbiotic genes in the presence of apigenin and salt.

Rhizobium tropici strain CIAT 899 establishes effective symbioses with several legume species, including Phaseolus vulgaris and Leucaena leucocephala. This bacterium synthesizes a large variety of nodulation factors in response to nod-gene inducing flavonoids and, surprisingly, also under salt stress conditions. The aim of this study was to identify differentially expressed genes in the presence of both inducer molecules, and analyze the promoter regions located upstream of these genes. Results obtained by RNA-seq analyses of CIAT 899 induced with apigenin, a nod gene-inducing flavonoid for this strain, or salt allowed the identification of 19 and 790 differentially expressed genes, respectively. Fifteen of these genes were up-regulated in both conditions and were involved in the synthesis of both Nod factors and indole-3-acetic acid. Transcription of these genes was presumably activated through binding of at least one of the five NodD proteins present in this strain to specific nod box promoter sequences when the bacterium was induced by both apigenin and salt. Finally, under saline conditions, many other transcriptional responses were detected, including an increase in the transcription of genes involved in trehalose catabolism, chemotaxis and protein secretion, as well as ribosomal genes, and a decrease in the transcription of genes involved in transmembrane transport. To our knowledge this is the first time that a transcriptomic study shows that salt stress induces the expression of nodulation genes in the absence of flavonoids. Thus, in the presence of both nodulation inducer molecules, apigenin and salt, R. tropici CIAT 899 up-regulated the same set of symbiotic genes. It could be possible that the increases in the transcription levels of several genes related to nodulation under saline conditions could represent a strategy to establish symbiosis under abiotic stressing conditions

Analysis of Forces Involved in the Perching Maneuver of Flapping-Wing Aerial Systems and Development of an Ultra-Lightweight Perching System

    Get PDF
Trying to optimize the design of aerial robotics systems, this work presents an optimized low-weight landing system for flapping-wing aerial robots. The design, based on the use of low-sized neodymium magnets, intends to provide that these aerial robots have the capability of landing in restricted areas by using the presented solution. This capacity will increase the application range of these robots. A study of this situation has been done to analyze the perching maneuver forces and evaluate the system. The solution presented is low-weight, lowsized, and also relatively inexpensive. Therefore, this solution may apply to most ornithopter robots. Design, analysis of the implied forces, development and experimental validation of the idea are presented in this work, demonstrating that the developed solution can overcome the ornithopter’s payload limitation providing an efficient and reliable solutionUnión Europea SI-1867/23/2018 ERC-AD

La fusión glaciar en el Pirineo: condicionantes ambientales y primeros resultados bianuales en el glaciar de Infiernos (Pirineo aragonés)

Data are presented about the environmental characters of the Infiernos glacier and of the regression suffered in the last century, as well as the meltwater flow values corresponding to two daily cycle of the Infierno glacier. These values were measured at the end of the summer of 1998 and 1999. There is a close relationship between these data and both thermic rythms. This fact suggests that meltwater flow should become a useful additional parameter to explain the environmental control of the drainage systems derived from the glacier fusion, as well as the serious glacier regression happened in the last decades, indicative of balances between the accumulation nival and the ablation clearly negative.
