Causal Anomalies in Kaluza-Klein Gravity Theories
Causal anomalies in two Kaluza-Klein gravity theories are examined,
particularly as to whether these theories permit solutions in which the
causality principle is violated. It is found that similarly to general
relativity the field equations of the space-time-mass Kaluza-Klein (STM-KK)
gravity theory do not exclude violation of causality of G\"odel type, whereas
the induced matter Kaluza-Klein (IM-KK) gravity rules out noncausal
G\"odel-type models. The induced matter version of general relativity is shown
to be an efficient therapy for causal anomalies that occurs in a wide class of
noncausal geometries. Perfect fluid and dust G\"odel-type solutions of the
STM-KK field equations are studied. It is shown that every G\"odel-type perfect
fluid solution is isometric to the unique dust solution of the STM-KK field
equations. The question as to whether 5-D G\"odel-type non-causal geometries

Riemann-Cartan Space-times of G\"odel Type
A class of Riemann-Cartan G\"odel-type space-times are examined in the light
of the equivalence problem techniques. The conditions for local space-time
homogeneity are derived, generalizing previous works on Riemannian G\"odel-type
space-times. The equivalence of Riemann-Cartan G\"odel-type space-times of this
class is studied. It is shown that they admit a five-dimensional group of
affine-isometries and are characterized by three essential parameters : identical triads () correspond to locally
equivalent manifolds. The algebraic types of the irreducible parts of the

Radiation Damping in FRW Space-times with Different Topologies
We study the role played by the compactness and the degree of connectedness
in the time evolution of the energy of a radiating system in the
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-times whose spacelike
sections are the Euclidean 3-manifold and six topologically
non-equivalent flat orientable compact multiply connected Riemannian
3-manifolds. An exponential damping of the energy is present in the
case, whereas for the six compact flat 3-spaces it is found
basically the same pattern for the evolution of the energy, namely relative
minima and maxima occurring at different times (depending on the degree of
connectedness) followed by a growth of . Likely reasons for this
divergent behavior of in these compact flat 3-manifolds are discussed
and further developments are indicated. A misinterpretation of Wolf's results
regarding one of the six orientable compact flat 3-manifolds is also indicated

Topology and Fragility in Cosmology
We introduce the notion of topological fragility and briefly discuss some
examples from the literature. An important example of this type of fragility is
the way globally anisotropic Bianchi V generalisations of the FLRW model
result in a radical restriction on the allowed topology of spatial sections,
thereby excluding compact cosmological models with negatively curved
three-sections with anisotropy. An outcome of this is to exclude chaotic mixing
in such models, which may be relevant, given the many recent attempts at
employing compact FLRW models to produce chaotic mixing in the cosmic
microwave background radiation, if the Universe turns out to be globally

Goedel-type Universes and the Landau Problem
We point out a close relation between a family of Goedel-type solutions of
3+1 General Relativity and the Landau problem in S^2, R^2 and H_2; in
particular, the classical geodesics correspond to Larmor orbits in the Landau
problem. We discuss the extent of this relation, by analyzing the solutions of
the Klein-Gordon equation in these backgrounds. For the R^2 case, this relation
was independently noticed in hep-th/0306148. Guided by the analogy with the
Landau problem, we speculate on the possible holographic description of a

The Cool Farm Biodiversity metric: An evidence-based online tool to report and improve management of biodiversity at farm scale
Halting biodiversity loss and achieving food security are both aims of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, but there is complex interplay between them. Agriculture drives biodiversity loss, but biodiversity provides benefits to agriculture. There is substantial potential to develop âwin-winâ solutions for biodiversity and people within productive farmland, by boosting wildlife that can be supported, whilst maintaining yield and other services. To achieve this, farmers need to be able to assess the impacts of their management on biodiversity at farm scale. While suitable tools exist to drive improvement in biodiversity management, none incorporates evidence on the effectiveness of specific management practices. In this study we present the Cool Farm Biodiversity metric, which generates a farm-scale action-based biodiversity management assessment, scored using expert judgements and expert assessment of experimental evidence. The metric is designed to be biome-specific, so it responds to conservation aims, ecosystem processes and farming systems in particular biomes. To demonstrate that the metric is responsive to changes in farm management, we present an example of use on a large arable farm from the temperate forest biome

Encapsulation of the HSP-90 Chaperone Inhibitor 17-AAG in Stable Liposome Allow Increasing the Therapeutic Index as Assessed, in vitro, on Leishmania (L) amazonensis Amastigotes-Hosted in Mouse CBA Macrophages
The current long-term treatment for leishmaniasis causes severe side effects and resistance in some cases. An evaluation of the anti-leishmanial potential of an HSP90-inhibitor, 17-allylamino-17-demethoxygeldanamycin (17-AAG), demonstrated its potent effect against Leishmania spp. in vitro and in vivo. We have previously shown that 17-AAG can kill L. (L) amazonensis promastigotes with an IC50 of 65 nM and intracellular amastigote at concentrations as low as 125 nM. As this compound presents low solubility and high toxicity in human clinical trials, we prepared an inclusion complex containing hydroxypropyl-ÎČ-cyclodextrin and 17-AAG (17-AAG:HPÎČCD) to improve its solubility. This complex was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Liposomes-containing 17-AAG:HPÎČCD was prepared and evaluated for encapsulation efficiency (EE%), particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), pH, and zeta potential, before and after accelerated and long-term stability testing. An evaluation of leishmanicidal activity against promastigotes and intracellular amastigotes of L. (L) amazonensis was also performed. The characterization techniques utilized confirmed the formation of the inclusion complex, HPÎČCD:17-AAG, with a resulting 33-fold-enhancement in compound water solubility. Stability studies revealed that 17-AAG:HPÎČCD-loaded liposomes were smaller than 200 nm, with 99% EE. Stability testing detected no alterations in PDI that was 0.295, pH 7.63, and zeta potential +22.6, suggesting liposome stability, and suitability for evaluating leishmanicidal activity. Treatment of infected macrophages with 0.006 nM of 17-AAG:HPÎČCD or 17-AAG:HPÎČCD-loaded liposomes resulted in almost complete amastigote clearance inside macrophages after 48 h. This reduction is similar to the one observed in infected macrophages treated with 2 ÎŒM amphotericin B. Our results showed that nanotechnology and drug delivery systems could be used to increase the antileishmanial efficacy and potency of 17-AAG in vitro, while also resulting in reduced toxicity that indicates these formulations may represent a potential therapeutic strategy against leishmaniasis
