Chaotic Interaction of Langmuir Solitons and Long Wavelength Radiation

In this work we analyze the interaction of isolated solitary structures and ion-acoustic radiation. If the radiation amplitude is small solitary structures persists, but when the amplitude grows energy transfer towards small spatial scales occurs. We show that transfer is particularly fast when a fixed point of a low dimensional model is destroyed.Comment: LaTex + 4 eps file

Estimativas de parâmetros genéticos em progênies de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) em ensaios clonais.

As estimativas de parâmetros genéticos são de grande importância no melhoramento genético da mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz), porque direcionam a experimentação, o processo seletivo e definição dos métodos de melhoramento a serem utilizados. A utilização da estimativa de parâmetros genéticos para identificar e selecionar cultivares com características superiores é rotineiramente utilizado em programas de melhoramento genético. Características como produtividade são controladas por muitos genes com forte efeito ambiental, no entanto estimações precisas dos componentes de variância são importantes para a predição de valores genéticos e para maximizar a acurácia seletiva. Assim, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi estimar os parâmetros genéticos para diversas características agronômicas e produtivas em progênies de mandioca em ensaios clonais

Density anomaly in a competing interactions lattice gas model

We study a very simple model of a short-range attraction and an outer shell repulsion as a test system for demixing phase transition and density anomaly. The phase-diagram is obtained by applying mean field analysis and Monte Carlo simulations to a two dimensional lattice gas with nearest-neighbors attraction and next-nearest-neighbors repulsion (the outer shell). Two liquid phases and density anomaly are found. The coexistence line between these two liquid phases meets a critical line between the fluid and the low density liquid at a tricritical point. The line of maximum density emerges in the vicinity of the tricritical point, close to the demixing transition

Self-similar magnetoresistance of Fibonacci ultrathin magnetic films

We study numerically the magnetic properties (magnetization and magnetoresistance) of ultra-thin magnetic films (Fe/Cr) grown following the Fibonacci sequence. We use a phenomenological model which includes Zeeman, cubic anisotropy, bilinear and biquadratic exchange energies. Our physical parameters are based on experimental data recently reported, which contain biquadratic exchange coupling with magnitude comparable to the bilinear exchange coupling. When biquadratic exchange coupling is sufficiently large a striking self-similar pattern emerges.Comment: 5 pages, 5 EPS figures, REVTeX, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
