Effects of seasonal conditions on septorhinoplasty patients

    No full text
Our study aims to investigate the seasonal effects on the breath and quality of life (QoL) of patients who underwent septorhinoplasty (SRP). A total of 52 patients who underwent SRP between 2018-2023 were included in the study. Two groups those who operated in the winter (winter group, n=26) and those who performed in the summer (summer group, n=26) were evaluated with the NOSE (Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation) scale to reveal the QoL after surgery. Compared with the summer group, NOSE scores in the winter group showed a statistically significant difference (p [Med-Science 2023; 12(4.000): 1210-2

Effects of Insulin, Metoprolol and Deferoxamine on Fat Graft Survival

Background The main problem faced with fat grafting is unpredictable resorption rates. Many substances have been reported to increase the survival of fat grafts. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of insulin, metoprolol and deferoxamine on fat graft survival

Evaluation of occupational accidents in a tertiary emergency department introduction

Aim: Our study aimed to determine the characteristics of occupational accident cases admitted to an emergency department and evaluate these accidents in terms of emergency service cost.Materials and Methods: This descriptive study evaluated the age and gender of the patients, admission time, reason for admission and the sector in which the patient works. Trauma to the body area and the patients' cost covered by Social Security Institution were also evaluated according to the hazard classification for business organisations. Results: The study included a total of 410 patients admitted to the emergency department due to occupational accidents. Of these, 95.9% were male, of which 30.0% were working in construction sectors. The maximum number of admissions was between 800 and 1200 hours at a frequency of 34.6%. Furthermore, the costs of occupational accidents that the workers were exposed to in very dangerous sectors were the highest (p=0.012).Conclusion: Occupational accidents result in the highest number of deaths after traffic and home accidents. They have a significantly negative impact on both the workers' health and national economy. In particular, in work places classified as dangerous and very dangerous, the employees are at a risk of accidents that may cause permanent injury and/or death

Potential Role of Plasma Myeloperoxidase Level in Predicting Long-Term Outcome of Acute Myocardial Infarction

We investigated the prognostic importance of plasma myeloperoxidase levels in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) at long-term follow-up, and we analyzed the correlations between plasma myeloperoxidase levels and other biochemical values

The effect of gender on reversal of nondepolarizing block

Introduction: We investigated the role of gender on the effect of neostigmine-antagonised nondepolarizing neuromuscular block. Method: One hundred adult patients were enrolled in this study. The patients were divided into two groups as female group (n=50) and male group (n=50). Anesthesia induction was performed with propofol and fentanyl and maintained with desflurane inhalation to serve as a baseline, control TOF value (TOFc) was recorded and rocuronium 0.5 mg kg-1 was injected thereafter. The duration of TOF value to reach zero (TOF-0) was recorded. Rocuronium injection was repeated in 114 of the initial dose when the TOF ratio recovered to 25% (TOF-25). Total rocuronium dose (TRmg), time interval between rocuronium administrations (TRt) and number of the total rocuronium administrations (TRs) were recorded. At the end of the operation, neostigmine and atropine were administered when TOF ratio reached to 25%, and the duration of the TOF ratio for rising from 25% to 90% (TOF25-90) was recorded. Protruding the tongue (TP) and to lift the head (HL) were also recorded after extubation. Results: There were no differences between the demographic data and surgical duration of the groups. TOF-0 of the male group was longer than that of the female group (219.34 sec vs. 138.84 sec). In the male group TRt was shorter and TRs was higher (p0.05). Protruding the tongue and to lift the head were significantly lower in male patients. Conclusion: Gender effects the antagonization speed of nondepolarizing neuromuscular block with neostigmine and nondepolarizing neuromuscular block recovers earlier in men than in woman
