Memory Function versus Binary Correlator in Additive Markov Chains
We study properties of the additive binary Markov chain with short and
long-range correlations. A new approach is suggested that allows one to express
global statistical properties of a binary chain in terms of the so-called
memory function. The latter is directly connected with the pair correlator of a
chain via the integral equation that is analyzed in great detail. To elucidate
the relation between the memory function and pair correlator, some specific
cases were considered that may have important applications in different fields.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figur
Surface ZnSe:Ca layers with hole conductivity
The authors investigate the effect of treating n-ZnSe substrates with boiling aqueous Ca(NO₃)₂ suspension on their electrical and luminescent properties. Base substrates were cut from bulk pure zinc selenide crystals grown from a stoichiometric melt by the Bridgman method. It was found that the Ca-doping of the substrates causes an almost complete “quenching” of the low-energy orange emission band with a maximum near hωmax ≈ 1,95 eV and a significant increase in the efficiency of the edge blue luminescence band.
Non-universal critical properties of a symmetrical binary fluid mixture
We study non-universal critical properties of a symmetrical mixture using
the recently proposed approach and the method of layer-by-layer integration
of a partition function. Both the gas-liquid critical point properties (temperature
and density) and the fluid-fluid demixing temperature of a symmetrical
hard-sphere square-well mixture are calculated depending on its
microscopic parameters: the parameter r measuring the strength of interactions
between the particles of dissimilar and similar species and the
parameter λ measuring the width of the potential well.
FEATURES OF FATAL INJURIES WHEN SHOOTING FROM CONVERTED AND REACTIVATED WEAPONS (TWO CASES FROM EXPERT PRACTICE)
Relevance. Gunshot injuries from converted and re-activated (remanufactured) weapons are increasingly common in expert practice. This is due to the free circulation of such weapons, which are not controlled by authorized bodies, no documents or registration are required for their acquisition, and their transfer to a combat state is a technologically simple and fast process.
Objective: analysis of the nature and characteristics of injuries caused by shots from converted and reactivated weapons, based on data obtained in forensic medical expert practice in the study of corpses of victims with gunshot wounds to the head, as well as on the results of forensic ballistic examinations of firearms and ammunition for them.
Materials and methods. Cases of forensic medical examination of gunshot wounds to the head when fired from converted and reactivated (recovered) hand-held firearms, resulting in the death of the victims.
Results. The study found that the use of signal weapons (pistol "Stalker-M906" converted for firing pistol cartridges of 9 mm RA caliber) and recovered neutralized weapons (mass-dimensional model of a 7.62 mm Nagant revolver equipped with non-standard ammunition) when fired at point-blank and at close range led to fatal penetrating gunshot wounds, accompanied by perforated fractures of the skull bones, destruction of the brain substance and intracranial hemorrhages.
Conclusions. The analyzed cases of gunshot wounds when fired from converted and reactivated weapons indicate the potential danger of causing fatal injuries to a person. Consequently, an important issue is to strengthen control over the circulation, use and storage of signal and neutralized weapons
Additive N-Step Markov Chains as Prototype Model of Symbolic Stochastic Dynamical Systems with Long-Range Correlations
A theory of symbolic dynamic systems with long-range correlations based on
the consideration of the binary N-step Markov chains developed earlier in Phys.
Rev. Lett. 90, 110601 (2003) is generalized to the biased case (non equal
numbers of zeros and unities in the chain). In the model, the conditional
probability that the i-th symbol in the chain equals zero (or unity) is a
linear function of the number of unities (zeros) among the preceding N symbols.
The correlation and distribution functions as well as the variance of number of
symbols in the words of arbitrary length L are obtained analytically and
verified by numerical simulations. A self-similarity of the studied stochastic
process is revealed and the similarity group transformation of the chain
parameters is presented. The diffusion Fokker-Planck equation governing the
distribution function of the L-words is explored. If the persistent
correlations are not extremely strong, the distribution function is shown to be
the Gaussian with the variance being nonlinearly dependent on L. An equation
connecting the memory and correlation function of the additive Markov chain is
presented. This equation allows reconstructing a memory function using a
correlation function of the system. Effectiveness and robustness of the
proposed method is demonstrated by simple model examples. Memory functions of
concrete coarse-grained literary texts are found and their universal power-law
behavior at long distances is revealed.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figure
Isotropy Properties of the Multi-Step Markov Symbolic Sequences
A new object of the probability theory, the two-sided chain of symbols
(introduced in Ref. arXiv:physics/0306170) is used to study isotropy properties
of binary multi-step Markov chains with the long-range correlations.
Established statistical correspondence between the Markov chains and certain
two-sided sequences allows us to prove the isotropy properties of three classes
of the Markov chains. One of them is the important class of weakly correlated
additive Markov chains, which turned out to be equivalent to the additive
two-sided sequences.Comment: 7 page
Medico-social conditions of educational activity, quality of life and aspects of psychophysiological adaptation of modern pupils and students: features of interrelation and their hygienic assessment
The purpose of the study is a
comprehensive hygienic assessment of the relationship between medico-social conditions of educational activities,
quality of life and adaptive capabilities of students. During the research conducted on the basis of 5 modern
educational institutions of different types: university, college, specialized school, lyceum and school, the significant
deviations of indicators of hygienic assessment of daily regimen of pupils and students from generally accepted
normative values (p<0.05-0.001)were revealed, which, first of all, concerned the excess of the maximum allowable
duration of their daily stay in educational institutions, the length of time required to complete homework, low levels
of physical activity, etc. It was found that the highest levels of quality of life among boys and girls are recorded
according to the scales of Physical Functioning (PF), Bodily Pain (BP) and Role-Physical (RP), the lowest ones were
Mental Health (MH), Vitality (VT) and Social Functioning (SF). The relationships between the values that indicate the
characteristics of quality of life and features of the psychophysiological adaptation of pupils and students were
revealed. Moreover, the largest number of relationships (r=0.36-0.77; p<0.05-0.001) which characterize quality of
life indicators belong to boys according to the scales of Physical Functioning (PF), Mental Health (MH), Vitality (VT)
, Bodily Pain (BP); to girls – Bodily Pain (BP), Vitality (VT), Mental Health (MH), General Health (GH), RoleEmotional (RE). When determining the features of intersystem relationships between components of quality of life and
indicators of psychophysiological functions, it was found that the closest relationship (r=0.37-0.99; p<0.05-0.001) is
observed between the characteristics of the speed of visual-motor reactions, mobility and balance of nervous processes,
coordination of movements and indicators of quality of life according to the scales of General Health (GH), Physical
Functioning (PF), Social Functioning (SF) and Mental Health (MH
Catalog of Nearby Isolated Galaxies in the Volume z<0.01
We present a catalog of 520 most isolated nearby galaxies with radial
velocities V_LG<3500 km/s covering the entire sky. This population of "space
orphans" makes up 4.8% among 10900 galaxies with measured radial velocities. We
describe the isolation criterion used to select our sample, called the "Local
Orphan Galaxies" (LOG), and discuss their basic optical and HI properties. A
half of the LOG catalog is occupied by the Sdm, Im and Ir morphological type
galaxies without a bulge. The median ratio M_gas/M_star in the LOG galaxies
exceeds 1. The distribution of the catalog galaxies on the sky looks uniform
with some signatures of a weak clustering on the scale of about 0.5 Mpc. The
LOG galaxies are located in the regions where the mean local density of matter
is approximately 50 times lower than the mean global density. We indicate a
number of LOG galaxies with distorted structures, which may be the consequence
of interaction of isolated galaxies with massive dark objects
