Limb imaging of the Venus O2 visible nightglow with the Venus Monitoring Camera
We investigated the Venus O2 visible nightglow with imagery from the Venus
Monitoring Camera on Venus Express. Drawing from data collected between April
2007 and January 2011, we study the global distribution of this emission,
discovered in the late 70s by the Venera 9 and 10 missions. The inferred
limb-viewing intensities are on the order of 150 kiloRayleighs at the lower
latitudes and seem to drop somewhat towards the poles. The emission is
generally stable, although there are episodes when the intensities rise up to
500 kR. We compare a set of Venus Monitoring Camera observations with
coincident measurements of the O2 nightglow at 1.27 {\mu}m made with the
Visible and Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer, also on Venus Express. From
the evidence gathered in this and past works, we suggest a direct correlation
between the instantaneous emissions from the two O2 nightglow systems. Possible
implications regarding the uncertain origin of the atomic oxygen green line at

On quadratic Hom-Lie algebras with equivariant twist maps and their relationship with quadratic Lie algebras
Hom-Lie algebras having non-invertible and equivariant twist maps are
studied. Central extensions of Hom-Lie algebras having these properties are
obtained and shown how the same properties are preserved. Conditions are given
so that the produced central extension has an invariant metric with respect to
its Hom-Lie product making its twist map self-adjoint when the original Hom-Lie
algebra has such a metric. This work is focused on algebras with these
properties and we call them quadratic Hom-Lie algebras. It is shown how a
quadratic Hom-Lie algebra gives rise to a quadratic Lie algebra and that the
Lie algebra associated to the given Hom-Lie central extension is a Lie algebra
central extension of it. It is also shown that if the 2-cocycle associated to
the central extension is not a coboundary, there exists a non-abelian and
non-associative algebra, the commutator of whose product is precisely the
Hom-Lie product of the Hom-Lie central extension. Moreover, the algebra whose
commutator realizes this Hom-Lie product is shown to be simple if the
associated Lie algebra is nilpotent. Non-trivial examples are provided
Angular emission properties of a layer of rare-earth based nanophosphors embedded in one-dimensional photonic crystal coatings
The angular properties of light emitted from rare-earth based nanophosphors embedded in optical resonators built in one-dimensional photonic crystal coatings are herein investigated. Strong directional dependence of the photoluminescence spectra is found. Abrupt angular variations of the enhancement caused by the photonic structure and the extraction power are observed, in good agreement with calculated polar emission patterns. Our results confirm that the optical cavity favors the extraction of different wavelengths at different angles and that integration of nanophosphors within photonic crystals provides control over the directional emission properties that could be put into practice in phosphorescent displays.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación MAT2008- 02166, CSD2007-00007Junta de Andalucía FQM3579, FQM524
Análisis de componentes principales funcionales en series de tiempo económicas
El análisis de datos funcionales ha cobrado gran relevancia en los últimos años,
convirtiéndose en un importante campo de investigación en la Estadística. El primer
método considerado para procesar este tipo de datos fue el de las componentes principales.
En este trabajo se considera la extensión del método de las componentes principales
clásicas (ACP) al caso funcional (ACPF), algunas propiedades interesantes que aparecen y
otras que se conservan al realizar dicha extensión, así como su aplicación el procesamiento
de datos reales económicos y una breve explicación de algunas bibliotecas que realizan el

Multi-resonant scatterers in sonic crystals: Locally multi-resonant acoustic metamaterial
An acoustic metamaterial made of a two-dimensional (2D) periodic array of multi-resonant acoustic scatterers is analyzed both experimentally and theoretically. The building blocks consist of a combination of elastic beams of low-density polyethylene foam (LDPF) with cavities of known area. Elastic resonances of the beams and acoustic resonances of the cavities can be excited by sound producing several attenuation peaks in the low frequency range. Due to this behavior the periodic array with long wavelength multi-resonant structural units can be classified as a locally multi-resonant acoustic metamaterial (LMRAM) with strong dispersion of its effective properties. The results presented in this paper could be used to design effective tunable acoustic filters for the low frequency range. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
