The working zone in the interpolar area of the Faraday balance: an approach to testing the magnetic force factor stability criterion

Due to rapid development of the scientific and applied research in magnetic control and magnetophoresis of ferro- and ferromagnetic disperse fraction of various technological, natural and industry-specific media, the Faraday method is again in high demand as it is mainly aimed at defining magnetic susceptibility of solid and heterogeneous samples of small volumes. Based on the appearing (and then measured) ponderomotive force impacting the sample, the method allows accurate determining of single particles magnetic susceptibility by using the data of the sample represented by a conglomerate of the particles of such a fraction. In addition, it is mentioned that to date there is still a great gap in the methodology of the Faraday method as there are no exact recommendations on choosing both the form of the polar pieces of the Faraday balance and the positioning of the sample (the location of the working zone) in the interpolar area. Owing to these drawbacks, the well-known and long-time used Faraday method cannot be considered substantiated to a satisfactory degree. Thus, in our point of view, the treatment of the results obtained earlier with the help of the method should be cautious. In our work, we experimentally defined and substantiated an approach to identifying a working (local) zone, viz. the zone with stable values of the magnetic force factor – the product of the field intensity and induction by its gradient. The approach features the relative phenomenological analysis and is exemplified by polar pieces of non-traditional spherical form. It has been demonstrated that in order to state the fact of mere existence of this zone (and its location) in the interpolar area, the coordinate (usually nonlinear one) characteristic of intensity or induction, which is obligatorily obtained in an experiment, should have an inflexion, which guarantees a functionally extreme view of the following coordinate characteristics both of the gradient and that of the force factor. We also established the coordinates and the length of the working zone in a specific interpolar area

Aim. To characterize patients receiving PCSK9 inhibitors, and assess the efficiency of their treatment in a specialized lipid center.Material and methods. A retrospective analysis of the medical records of patients who visited the Lipid clinic of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine (Moscow, Russia), receiving PCSK9 inhibitor and having lipid profile in dynamics, was carried out (n=77). Cardiovascular risk (CVR) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) target levels were evaluated in accordance with the Russian guidelines for the diagnostics and correction of dyslipidemias 2020.Results. Of 77 patients taking PCSK9 inhibitors (44.2% males, the median of age 56 [47; 66] years), the majority (64.0%) had a probable or definite familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). The proportion of other lipid metabolism disorders, pure hypercholesterolemia and combined hyperlipidemia was 21% and 15%. More than half of the patients (68.8%) had a very high CVR, mainly due to the presence of coronary heart disease (84.9%). The proportion of patients receiving PCSK9 inhibitors as monotherapy was 7.8%, in combination with high-intensity statin therapy – 33.8%, as part of triple lipid-lowering therapy (high-intensity statin, ezetimibe, PCSK9 inhibitors) – 50.6%. Addition of PCSK9 inhibitors to combined lipid-lowering therapy enabled to reduce the LDL-C level to 1.02 [0.62; 1.39] mmol/l with its total decrease from the baseline by 87.3%. While taking PCSK9 inhibitors, LDL-C <1.8 mmol/l and <1.4 mmol/l achieved at 78.3% and 57.7% FH patients with high and very high CVR, respectively. Among patients with other hyperlipidemias, 74.1% of patients with very high CVR was achieved the target LDL-C level <1.4 mmol/l.Conclusion: In a specialized lipid center, PCSK9 inhibitors are prescribed to patients with high or very high CVR, most of whom are FH patients. The effectiveness of the use of PCSK9 inhibitors in real-world practice is comparable to the results of clinical trials

Coulomb excitation of exotic nuclei at the R3B-LAND setup

Exotic Ni isotopes have been measured at the R3B-LAND setup at GSI in Darmstadt, using Coulomb excitation in inverse kinematics at beam energies around 500 MeV/u. As the experimental setup allows kinematically complete measurements, the excitation energy was reconstructed using the invariant mass method. The GDR and additional low-lying strength have been observed in 68Ni, the latter exhausting 4.1(1.9)% of the E1 energy-weighted sum rule. Also, the branching ratio for the non-statistical decay of the excited 68Ni nuclei was measured and amounts to 24(4)%.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures. Invited Talk given at the 11th International Conference on Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions (NN2012), San Antonio, Texas, USA, May 27-June 1, 2012. To appear in the NN2012 Proceedings in Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS

Tuberculosis incidence and HIV infection incidence in the regions of the Russian Federation are declining, but the proportion of HIV positive people among the entire cohort of tuberculosis patients is clearly growing. The objective: to determine causes for increasing proportion of HIV infected people among tuberculosis patients and to provide additional recommendations for enhancement of tuberculosis detection in HIV infected patients. as well as prevention of its transmission.Subjects and Methods. The cohort of new tuberculosis patients with concurrent HIV infection (TB/HIV coinfection) in the Russian Federation region with a high prevalence of HIV infection was studied based personal medical records of patients for the first 6 months of 2022 (682 cases totally).Results. The cohort of patients with TB/HIV co-infection belonged to socially vulnerable population. Among them, the parenteral route of HIV infection transmission still prevails, while in the whole country, among new HIV patients, the sexual (heterosexual) route of transmission already prevails. The majority of patients with TB/HIV co-infection, who had been infected with HIV for more than 5 years by the time tuberculosis was detected, were not registered with the Center for AIDS Prevention and Control and accordingly received no antiretroviral therapy. In most cases, HIV-infected patients sought medical care in general medical services when they developed symptoms of tuberculosis, however they referred for help when the disease was advanced. When assessing effectiveness of tuberculosis treatment, the specific parameters of tuberculosis course in HIV-infected patients with compromised immunity have not been taken into account.

The Coulomb Dissociation (CD) cross sections of the stable isotopes 92,94,100Mo and of the unstable isotope 93Mo were measured at the LAND/R3B setup at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Germany. Experimental data on these isotopes may help to explain the problem of the underproduction of 92,94Mo and 96,98Ru in the models of p-process nucleosynthesis. The CD cross sections obtained for the stable Mo isotopes are in good agreement with experiments performed with real photons, thus validating the method of Coulomb Dissociation. The result for the reaction 93Mo(γ,n) is especially important since the corresponding cross section has not been measured before. A preliminary integral Coulomb Dissociation cross section of the 94Mo(γ,n) reaction is presented. Further analysis will complete the experimental database for the (γ,n) production chain of the p-isotopes of molybdenum
