Prevention of child abuse and neglect through church and social service collaboration
been a historic disconnect between the two institutions concerning child abuse prevention efforts. All too often, criticisms and mistrust tend to characterize the way in which the two interact. This qualitative investigation examines the perceptions of both Christian leaders and social service providers on the church’s role in preventing and responding to child abuse and neglect. Researchers interviewed 36 church leaders and social service providers of varying Christian congregations and specialties. Interviews focused on both current and potential church programming and activities, as well as beliefs and values held by both parties concerning child protection and real or potential collaboration. Resulting themes are identified and examined, and recommendations for future collaborative child protection efforts proposed.

Raman and fluorescence contributions to resonant inelastic soft x-ray scattering on LaAlO/SrTiO heterostructures
We present a detailed study of the Ti 3 carriers at the interface of
LaAlO/SrTiO heterostructures by high-resolution resonant inelastic soft
x-ray scattering (RIXS), with special focus on the roles of overlayer thickness
and oxygen vacancies. Our measurements show the existence of interfacial Ti
3 electrons already below the critical thickness for conductivity and an
increase of the total interface charge up to a LaAlO overlayer thickness of
6 unit cells before it levels out. By comparing stoichiometric and oxygen
deficient samples we observe strong Ti 3 charge carrier doping by oxygen
vacancies. The RIXS data combined with photoelectron spectroscopy and transport
measurements indicate the simultaneous presence of localized and itinerant
charge carriers. However, it is demonstrated that the relative amount of
localized and itinerant Ti electrons in the ground state cannot be deduced
from the relative intensities of the Raman and fluorescence peaks in excitation
energy dependent RIXS measurements, in contrast to previous interpretations.
Rather, we attribute the observation of either the Raman or the fluorescence
signal to the spatial extension of the intermediate state reached in the RIXS

The transition of people’s preferences for the intervention of the government in the economy of re-unified Germany
Covering the first fifteen years immediately after German re- unification, this paper analyzes the people’s support to the transition. The focus is on individuals’ preferences for the intervention of the government in the economy and on the opinion about competition per se. Eastern German data are compared with Western German data. Using suitable data that allow for interpersonal comparisons, the paper shows that Eastern Germans have always preferred an intervention of the public hand in the economy deeper than Western Germans; these different positions have hardly converged during the examined period of time. However there are no significant differences with respect to how Germans perceive competition per se: it is considered as a good by the people living in both parts of the country.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Microscopic origin of the mobility enhancement at a spinel/perovskite oxide heterointerface revealed by photoemission spectroscopy
The spinel/perovskite heterointerface -AlO/SrTiO hosts a
two-dimensional electron system (2DES) with electron mobilities exceeding those
in its all-perovskite counterpart LaAlO/SrTiO by more than an order of
magnitude despite the abundance of oxygen vacancies which act as electron
donors as well as scattering sites. By means of resonant soft x-ray
photoemission spectroscopy and \textit{ab initio} calculations we reveal the
presence of a sharply localized type of oxygen vacancies at the very interface
due to the local breaking of the perovskite symmetry. We explain the
extraordinarily high mobilities by reduced scattering resulting from the
preferential formation of interfacial oxygen vacancies and spatial separation
of the resulting 2DES in deeper SrTiO layers. Our findings comply with
transport studies and pave the way towards defect engineering at interfaces of

RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League: Evaluation Challenges
We summarise the results of RoboCup 2D Soccer Simulation League in 2016
(Leipzig), including the main competition and the evaluation round. The
evaluation round held in Leipzig confirmed the strength of RoboCup-2015
champion (WrightEagle, i.e. WE2015) in the League, with only eventual finalists
of 2016 competition capable of defeating WE2015. An extended, post-Leipzig,
round-robin tournament which included the top 8 teams of 2016, as well as
WE2015, with over 1000 games played for each pair, placed WE2015 third behind
the champion team (Gliders2016) and the runner-up (HELIOS2016). This
establishes WE2015 as a stable benchmark for the 2D Simulation League. We then
contrast two ranking methods and suggest two options for future evaluation
challenges. The first one, "The Champions Simulation League", is proposed to
include 6 previous champions, directly competing against each other in a
round-robin tournament, with the view to systematically trace the advancements
in the League. The second proposal, "The Global Challenge", is aimed to
increase the realism of the environmental conditions during the simulated

Laser treatment in diabetic retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in developed countries due to macular edema and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). For both complications laser treatment may offer proven therapy: the Diabetic Retinopathy Study demonstrated that panretinal scatter photocoagulation reduces the risk of severe visual loss by >= 50% in eyes with high-risk characteristics. Pan-retinal scatter coagulation may also be beneficial in other PDR and severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) under certain conditions. For clinically significant macular edema the Early Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy Study could show that immediate focal laser photocoagulation reduces the risk of moderate visual loss by at least 50%. When and how to perform laser treatment is described in detail, offering a proven treatment for many problems associated with diabetic retinopathy based on a high evidence level. High resolution X-ray spectroscopy of the Seyfert 1 Mrk841: insights into the warm absorber and warm emitter
The Seyfert 1 galaxy Mrk841 was observed five times between 2001 and 2005 by
the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory. The source is well known for showing spectral
complexity in the variable iron line and in the soft X-ray excess. This paper
reports on the first study of Mrk841 soft X-ray spectrum at high spectral
resolution. The availability of multiple exposures obtained by the Reflection
Grating Spectrometer (RGS) cameras allows a thorough study of the complex
absorption and emission spectral features in the soft X-ray band.The three
combined exposures obtained in January 2001 and the two obtained in January and
July 2005 were analysed using the SPEX software. We detect a two-phase warm
absorber: a medium ionisation component (logxi~1.5-2.2 ergs s cm^{-1}) is
responsible for a deep absorption feature in the Unresolved Transition Array of
the Fe M-shell and for several absorption lines in the OVI-VIII band; a higher
ionisation phase with logxi~3 ergs s cm^{-1} is required to fit absorption in
the NeIX-X band. The ionisation state and the column density of the gas present
moderate variation from 2001 to 2005 for both phases. The high ionisation
component of the warm absorber has no effect in the Fe K band. No significant
velocity shift of the absorption lines is measured in the RGS data. Remarkably,
the 2005 spectra show emission features consistent with photoionisation in a
high density (n_e>10^{11} cm^{-3}) gas: a prominent OVII line triplet is
clearly observed in January 2005 and narrow Radiative Recombination Continua
(RRC) of OVII and CVI are observed in both 2005 data sets. A broad Gaussian
line around 21.7 Angstrom is also required to fit all the data sets. The
derived radial distance for the emission lines seems to suggest that the
photoionisation takes place within the optical Broad Line Region of the source.Comment: In press on A&A, replaced version includes language editing and typo

How do MNC R&D laboratory roles affect employee international assignments?
Research and development (R&D) employees are important human resources for multinational corporations (MNCs) as they are the driving force behind the advancement of innovative ideas and products. International assignments of these employees can be a unique way to upgrade their expertise; allowing them to effectively recombine their unique human resources to progress existing knowledge and advance new ones. This study aims to investigate the effect of the roles of R&D laboratories in which these employees work on the international assignments they undertake. We categorise R&D laboratory roles into those of the support laboratory, the locally integrated laboratory and the internationally interdependent laboratory. Based on the theory of resource recombinations, we hypothesise that R&D employees in support laboratories are not likely to assume international assignments, whereas those in locally integrated and internationally interdependent laboratories are likely to assume international assignments. The empirical evidence, which draws from research conducted on 559 professionals in 66 MNC subsidiaries based in Greece, provides support to our hypotheses. The resource recombinations theory that extends the resource based view can effectively illuminate the international assignment field. Also, research may provide more emphasis on the close work context of R&D scientists rather than analyse their demographic characteristics, the latter being the focus of scholarly practice hitherto
Potent Delivery of Functional Proteins into Mammalian Cells in Vitro and in Vivo Using a Supercharged Protein
The inability of proteins to potently penetrate mammalian cells limits their usefulness as tools and therapeutics. When fused to superpositively charged GFP, proteins rapidly (within minutes) entered five different types of mammalian cells with potency up to ∼100-fold greater than that of corresponding fusions with known protein transduction domains (PTDs) including Tat, oligoarginine, and penetratin. Ubiquitin-fused supercharged GFP when incubated with human cells was partially deubiquitinated, suggesting that proteins delivered with supercharged GFP can access the cytosol. Likewise, supercharged GFP delivered functional, nonendosomal recombinase enzyme with greater efficiencies than PTDs in vitro and also delivered functional recombinase enzyme to the retinae of mice when injected in vivo.Chemistry and Chemical Biolog
