Effect of dentin desensitizing procedures on methyl methacrylate diffusion through dentin
Background: Acrylic and bisacryl resins are widely used both during the temporization phase as well as for provisional restorations and the effect of external agents on dentin sensitivity can be reduced by the obliteration of the tubules. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate diffusion of methyl methacrylate monomer through dentin by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) after three different desensitizing procedures during the fabrication of two different provisional crown materials.Materials and Methods: Forty extracted restoration and caries free human premolar teeth were used in this study. Thermoplastic vacuum formed material was used as a matrix to fabricate provisional restorations for each tooth before crown preparation. Teeth were prepared for a metal supported ceramic crown with 1 mm shoulder margins and then crown parts were separated from cementoenamel junction with a carborundum disk perpendicular to the long axis of the teeth. To the cementoenamel junction of each tooth a polypropylene chamber was attached that contains 1.5 cm3of deionized distilled water. Prepared teeth were divided into four groups (n = 10) including control, desensitizing agent (DA) application, neodymium.doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) laser irradiation (LI), and LI after DA application groups. After application of DA (except control) each group were divided into two subgroups for fabrication of provisional restorations (n = 5). Two autopolymerizing provisional materials (Imident (Imicryl) and Systemp C and B (Ivoclar, vivadent)) were used to fabricate provisional restorations using the strips. Water elutes were analyzed by HPLC at 10 min and 24 h.Results: The monomer diffusion values varied statistically according to desensitizing procedures, provisional resin systems, and the time periods. Monomer diffusion through dentin surfaces desensitized with Nd: YAG LI after DA application was the lowest. Conclusions: Nd: YAG LI in association with DA application is an effective combination to eliminate monomer diffusion through dentin to pulpal chamber.Key words: Dentin hypersensitivity, dentin permeability, laser, monomer diffusion, provisional crow
Animation of boiling phenomena
Phenomenon of boiling is a challenging topic for computer graphics due to its complex hydrodynamics and formulation. Realistic fluid animations require very heavy three-dimensional fluid flow calculations, and surface estimations as well. However, realism and performance are the two important objectives of the boiling animation for a real-time application. We present an efficient method for the simulation of boiling water in this paper. The method is based on modeling the bubbles and waves as particles. Grid-based approach is used both for the heating and the fluid surface. Our technique makes it possible to produce the animation of boiling phenomena nearly in real-time. ©2008 IEEE
Myeloperoxidase enzyme levels and oxidative stress in bipolar disorders
Oxidative stress and generalized inflammatory state are features of bipolar disorders (BD). The objective of this study was to compare the levels of products of inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress markers in patients with bipolar disorders and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and to determine the relationship between oxidative stress and inflammation in bipolar disorders. ADHD+BD (n = 30) and BD (n = 30) and healthy controls (n = 30) were enrolled. A clinical evaluation andmeasurements of malondialdehyde (MDA), high sensitive C reactive protein (hsCRP) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were performed. Patients with BD+ADHD comorbidity had significantly higher mean MPO levels than BD. Patients with BD had significantly higher mean hsCRP levels than healthy controls. However, there was no significant difference in mean serum hsCRP levels between patients with BD+ADHD and healthy controls. Patients with BD and BD+ADHD had significantly higher mean MDA levels than healthy controls. Our data showed that there is an increased susceptibility to oxidative stress which is strongly related to the serum levels of MDA produced in the serum. hsCRP levels were higher in BD patients than in BD+ADHD and this is suggestive of a higher degree of inflammatory activity in BD patients. ADHD+BD comorbidity seems to augment oxidative stress which is expressed as increased MPO level in the present study. Further large scale studies are needed to extend ourresults
In vitro studies on antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic properties of Leucas aspera
The leaves of the plant Leucas aspera belonging to the family Lamiaceae was studied to determine the in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, and cytotoxic properties. All extracts showed remarkable antibacterial activity against all of the studied organisms except Escherichia coli. Methanol extract showed stronger activity compared to ethyl acetate and petroleum ether extracts. It showed highest activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with zone of inhibition of 15 mm. The standard chloramphenicol did not show any activity against Shigella sonnei. But all the extracts showed moderate activity against this pathogen with zone of inhibition ranging from 10 to 13 mm. None of the extracts has shown any significant antifungal activity against the fungi. Incase of brine shrimp lethality bioassay, methanol extract showed the strongest cytotoxic effect with LC50 value of 4.28 μg/ml which is followed by ethyl acetate extract with LC50 value of 5.36 μg/ml. Thus it can be inferred that this plant may be a potential source of novel bioactive compounds
Effects of Multiphase Gas and Projection on X-ray Observables in Simulated Galaxy Clusters as Seen by eROSITA
The number density of galaxy clusters as a function of mass and redshift is a
sensitive function of the cosmological parameters. To use clusters for
cosmological parameter studies, it is necessary to determine their masses as
accurately as possible, which is typically done via mass-observable scaling
relations. X-ray observables can be biased by multiphase gas and projection
effects, especially in the case where cluster temperatures and luminosities are
estimated from single-model fits to all of the emission with a given radius.
Using simulated galaxy clusters from a realistic cosmological simulation, we
seek to determine the importance of these biases in the context of
Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma/eROSITA observations of clusters. We extract clusters
from the Magneticum suite, and simulate eROSITA observations of these clusters
using PHOX and SIXTE. We compare the fitted observables from these observations
to those derived from the simulations. We fitted an intrinsically scattered
scaling relation to these measurements following a Bayesian
approach with which we fully took into account the selection effects and the
mass function. The largest biases on the cluster observables come from the
inadequacy of single-temperature model fits to represent emission from
multiphase gas, as well as a bias arising from cluster emission within the
projected along the line of sight but outside of the spherical
. We find that the biases on temperature and luminosity due to the
projection of emission from other clusters within is small. We find
that our simulated clusters follow a scaling relation that has a
broadly consistent but slightly shallower slope compared to the literature, and
that the intrinsic scatter of at given T is lower compared to the
recent observational results where the selection effects are fully considered.Comment: 18 pages, 17 figures, accepted by A&

Embedded Commissioning for Building Design
Building Commissioning has a broad scope that extends to all phases of building delivery. We view commissioning
as a building delivery embedded process that persistently verifies and validates design intent throughout the building lifecycle process.
In the building lifecycle approach, buildings are considered to have cradle-to-grave life spans. They are modeled through a variety
of different developmental phases. In this research project, we intend to build the necessary theory and tools to support the
embedded commissioning process as a co-function of building lifecycle
