Explaining the t tbar forward-backward asymmetry without dijet or flavor anomalies
We consider new physics explanations of the anomaly in the top quark
forward-backward asymmetry measured at the Tevatron, in the context of flavor
conserving models. The recently measured LHC dijet distributions strongly
constrain many otherwise viable models. A new scalar particle in the
antitriplet representation of flavor and color can fit the t tbar asymmetry and
cross section data at the Tevatron and avoid both low- and high-energy bounds
from flavor physics and the LHC. An s-channel resonance in uc to uc scattering
at the LHC is predicted to be not far from the current sensitivity. This model
also predicts rich top quark physics for the early LHC from decays of the new
scalar particles. Single production gives t tbar j signatures with high
transverse momentum jet, pair production leads to t tbar j j and 4 jet final
states.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures; v2: notation clarified, references adde
Scalar-mediated forward-backward asymmetry
A large forward-backward asymmetry in production, for large
invariant mass of the system, has been recently observed by the CDF
collaboration. Among the scalar mediated mechanisms that can explain such a
large asymmetry, only the t-channel exchange of a color-singlet weak-doublet
scalar is consistent with both differential and integrated cross
section measurements. Constraints from flavor changing processes dictate a very
specific structure for the Yukawa couplings of such a new scalar. No sizable
deviation in the differential or integrated production cross section
is expected at the LHC.Comment: 22 pages, 1 figure and 2 tables. v2: Corrected Eqs.(50,51,74),

Beautiful Mirrors at the LHC
We explore the "Beautiful Mirrors" model, which aims to explain the measured
value of , discrepant at the level. This scenario
introduces vector-like quarks which mix with the bottom, subtly affecting its
coupling to the . The spectrum of the new particles consists of two
bottom-like quarks and a charge -4/3 quark, all of which have electroweak
interactions with the third generation. We explore the phenomenology and
discovery reach for these new particles at the LHC, exploring single mirror
quark production modes whose rates are proportional to the same mixing
parameters which resolve the anomaly. We find that for mirror quark
masses is required to
reasonably establish the scenario and extract the relevant mixing parameters.Comment: version to be published in JHE
LHC diphoton Higgs signal and top quark forward-backward asymmetry in quasi-inert Higgs doublet model
In the quasi-inert Higgs doublet model, we study the LHC diphoton rate for a
standard model-like Higgs boson and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at
Tevatron. Taking into account the constraints from the vacuum stability,
unitarity, electroweak precision tests, flavor physics and the related
experimental data of top quark, we find that compared with the standard model
prediction, the diphoton rate of Higgs boson at LHC can be enhanced due to the
light charged Higgs contributions, while the measurement of the top quark
forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron can be explained to within due
to the non-standard model neutral Higgs bosons contributions. Finally, the
correlations between the two observables are discussed.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figues. Version to appear in JHEP, some references adde
Chiral U(1) flavor models and flavored Higgs doublets: the top FB asymmetry and the Wjj
We present U(1) flavor models for leptophobic Z' with flavor dependent
couplings to the right-handed up-type quarks in the Standard Model, which can
accommodate the recent data on the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry and the
dijet resonance associated with a W boson reported by CDF Collaboration. Such
flavor-dependent leptophobic charge assignments generally require extra chiral
fermions for anomaly cancellation. Also the chiral nature of U(1)' flavor
symmetry calls for new U(1)'-charged Higgs doublets in order for the SM
fermions to have realistic renormalizable Yukawa couplings. The stringent
constraints from the top FB asymmetry at the Tevatron and the same sign top
pair production at the LHC can be evaded due to contributions of the extra
Higgs doublets. We also show that the extension could realize cold dark matter
candidates.Comment: 40 pages, 10 figures, added 1 figure and extended discussion,

Top A_FB at the Tevatron vs. charge asymmetry at the LHC in chiral U(1) flavor models with flavored Higgs doublets
We consider the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron and top
charge asymmetry at the LHC within chiral U(1)^\prime models with
flavor-dependent U(1)^\prime charges and flavored Higgs fields, which were
introduced in the ref. [65]. The models could enhance not only the top
forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron, but also the top charge asymmetry at
LHC, without too large same-sign top pair production rates. We identify
parameter spaces for the U(1)^\prime gauge boson and (pseudo)scalar Higgs
bosons where all the experimental data could be accommodated, including the
case with about 125 GeV Higgs boson, as suggested recently by ATLAS and CMS.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, figures and discussion adde
Complete off-shell effects in top quark pair hadroproduction with leptonic decay at next-to-leading order
Results for next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the pp(p\bar{p}) -> t
\bar{t} -> W^+W^- b\bar{b} -> e^{+} \nu_{e} \mu^{-} \bar{\nu}_{\mu} b \bar{b}
+X processes with complete off-shell effects are presented for the first time.
Double-, single- and non-resonant top contributions of the order
{\cal{O}}(\alpha_{s}^3 \alpha^4) are consistently taken into account, which
requires the introduction of a complex-mass scheme for unstable top quarks.
Moreover, the intermediate W bosons are treated off-shell. Comparison to the
narrow width approximation for top quarks, where non-factorizable corrections
are not accounted for is performed. Besides the total cross section and its
scale dependence, several differential distributions at the TeVatron run II and
the LHC are given. In case of the TeVatron the forward-backward asymmetry of
the top is recalculated afresh. With inclusive selection cuts, the
forward-backward asymmetry amounts to A^{t}_{FB} = 0.051 +/- 0.0013.
Furthermore, the corrections with respect to leading order are positive and of
the order 2.3% for the TeVatron and 47% for the LHC. A study of the scale
dependence of our NLO predictions indicates that the residual theoretical
uncertainty due to higher order corrections is 8% for the TeVatron and 9% for
the LHC.Comment: 35 pages, 39 figures, 3 tables. References and note added, version to

Top quark forward-backward asymmetry in R-parity violating supersymmetry
The interaction of bottom squark-mediated top quark pair production,
occurring in the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model
(MSSM), is proposed as an explanation of the anomalously large
forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) observed at the Tevatron. We find that this
model can give a good fit to top quark data, both the inclusive and invariant
mass-dependent asymmetries, while remaining consistent (at the 2-
level) with the total and differential production cross-sections. The scenario
is challenged by strong constraints from atomic parity violation (APV), but we
point out an extra diagram for the effective down quark-Z vertex, involving the
same coupling constant as required for the FBA, which tends to weaken the APV
constraint, and which can nullify it for reasonable values of the top squark
masses and mixing angle. Large contributions to flavor-changing neutral
currents can be avoided if only the third generation of sparticles is light.Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures. v3: included LHC top production cross section

Z' signals in polarised top-antitop final states
We study the sensitivity of top-antitop samples produced at all energy stages
of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to the nature of an underlying Z' boson, in
presence of full tree level standard model (SM) background effects and relative
interferences. We concentrate on differential mass spectra as well as both
spatial and spin asymmetries thereby demonstrating that exploiting combinations
of these observables will enable one to distinguish between sequential Z's and
those pertaining to Left-Right symmetric models as well as E6 inspired ones,
assuming realistic final state reconstruction efficiencies and error estimates.Comment: 21 pages, 6 colour figures, 10 table
Heavy colored resonances in top-antitop + jet at the LHC
The LHC is the perfect environment for the study of new physics in the top
quark sector. We study the possibility of detecting signals of heavy
color-octet vector resonances, through the charge asymmetry, in top-antitop+jet
events. Besides contributions with the top-antitop pair in a color-singlet
state, the asymmetry gets also contributions which are proportional to the
color factor f_{abc}^2. This process is particularly interesting for
extra-dimensional models, where the inclusive charge asymmetry generated by
Kaluza-Klein excitations of the gluon vanishes at the tree level. We find that
the statistical significance for the measurement of such an asymmetry is
sizable for different values of the coupling constants and already at low
energies
