Enhancing Collaborative Learning Through Design for Learning
As K-12 educators work toward targeted, small group instruction together with college and career readiness skills, many implement collaborative learning experiences within their classrooms. Collaborative learning can help students develop deeper understandings of content while building critical life-long skills, and using a design for learning approach provides teachers with a useful framework for planning, implementing, and reflecting on student learning. Together, these approaches support one another by helping teachers engage in three practical implementation tasks: designing collaborative learning environments, overcoming barriers to collaborative practices, and designing successful learning tasks. We recommend that teachers use design for learning techniques to purposefully create collaborative learning environments and tasks that engage students while scaffolding students’ learning
Automated water monitor system field demonstration test report. Volume 1: Executive summary
A system that performs water quality monitoring on-line and in real time much as it would be done in a spacecraft, was developed and demonstrated. The system has the capability to determine conformance to high effluent quality standards and to increase the potential for reclamation and reuse of water
Automated water monitor system field demonstration test report. Volume 2: Technical summary
The NASA Automatic Water Monitor System was installed in a water reclamation facility to evaluate the technical and cost feasibility of producing high quality reclaimed water. Data gathered during this field demonstration test are reported
Magnetic properties of PdAs2O6: a dilute spin system with an unusually high N\'eel temperature
The crystal structure and magnetic ordering pattern of PdAs2O6 were
investigated by neutron powder diffraction. While the magnetic structure of
PdAs2O6 is identical to the one of its isostructural 3d-homologue NiAs2O6, its
N\'{e}el temperature (140 K) is much higher than the one of NiAs2O6 (30 K).
This is surprising in view of the long distance and indirect exchange path
between the magnetic Pd ions. Density functional calculations yield
insight into the electronic structure and the geometry of the exchange-bond
network of both PdAs2O6 and NiAs2O6, and provide a semi-quantitative
explanation of the large amplitude difference between their primary exchange
interaction parameters
Optical Hall Effect in the Integer Quantum Hall Regime
Optical Hall conductivity is measured from the Faraday
rotation for a GaAs/AlGaAs heterojunction quantum Hall system in the terahertz
frequency regime. The Faraday rotation angle ( fine structure constant
mrad) is found to significantly deviate from the Drude-like behavior to
exhibit a plateau-like structure around the Landau-level filling . The
result, which fits with the behavior expected from the carrier localization
effect in the ac regime, indicates that the plateau structure, although not
quantized, still exists in the terahertz regime.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Aerial Surveys of the Ocean and Atmosphere off Central California
The long-term goal is to enhance our understanding of airsea interaction in the littoral zone by means of applying simple dynamical theories to high-quality observations obtained in the field. The Monterey Bay serves as our natural laboratory for these purposes. The grant is one of a continuing series of programs to study the bay funded by the National Ocean Partnership Program NOPP and the ONR Naval Ocean Modeling and Prediction NOMP Program.Grant #s: N0001403WR20002, N0001403WR20006, N0001403WR2020
Challenging beliefs : a review of the paradigm shift in the treatment of pectus excavatum from radical resection to minimally invasive bracing and non-surgical vacuum bell suction
In 1997, Nuss introduced a minimally invasive non-destructive procedure for pectus excavatum, which revolutionised the treatment of the condition. This review will give a brief history on the management of this condition, followed by a review of 1 034 cases that have been repaired from 2008 to 2018.http://www.ajtccm.org.za/index.php/SARJhj2021CardiologySurger
