The Influence of Story Pyramid Strategy towards Students’ Reading Ability of Narrative Text
The objective of this research are to know whether there is a positive influence of story pyramid strategy towards students’ reading ability of narrative text , and to know whether the average score of students’ reading ability of narrative text who learned reading through story pyramid strategy higher than those who learn reading through conventional technique.The research was conducted at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 19 Pesawaran. The research used the experimental method. The population of the research was taken from the students at the second semester at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 19 Pesawaran in academic year 2016/2017.This research used cluster random sampling technique to took the sample.The researcher took two classes as the sample. The first class as experimental class. It was VIII A and the second class as control class. It was VIII B class.In analyzing the data used t–test formula.Based on the data analysis and hypothesis test,it found that the result of calculating was t-test (4.91) with t-table (2,00) so, Ho was refused. It means that there is possitive infuence of teaching reading through story pyramid strategy.And the average score of students’ reading ability who learn reading through story pyramid strategy is higher than who learn reading through conventional technique. The average score of experimental class was57,79 and Control class was46.39. So, there was influence of story pyramid strategy towards students’ reading ability of narrative text at the eight grade of SMP Negeri 19 Pesawaran
Speech Acts and Politeness: A Case Study on Indonesian EFL Learners in Teaching and Learning Practice
This research is intended to know the kinds and classification of speech acts and the politeness implication in teaching and learning activities. The subject of this research was the sixth-semester EFL learners of STKIP PGRI Bandar Lampung. The object of this research was speech acts used by EFL learners. The researcher used the observation technique combined with noting technique in collecting the data. In this research, the researcher used the qualitative multiple study. The result of the study showed that speech acts used by EFL learners were direct and indirect speech acts. The speech acts were classified into the assertive, commissive, directive, and expressive. The politeness strategy acted by EFL learning included positive and negative politeness. The use of positive politeness creates a closeness among the teacher and the students, creates a pleasant classroom atmosphere, and increases the students’ motivation. Meanwhile, the use of negative politeness reduces amount degree of friendliness among the students and the teacher and creates a formal learning situation. Theoretically, this research has implications for the development of scientific insights about pragmatics, especially speech acts, and practically it gives implication to EFL teachers and students in understanding, analyzing, and interpreting the use of speech acts in communication.
 
Pengaruh Strategi Pembelajaran Generative Learning Terhadap Kemampuan Mengarang Narasi Siswa Kelas X Semester Genap SMA Negeri 1 Natar Lampung Selatan
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi pembelajaran generative learning terhadap kemampuan menulis karangan narasi siswa SMA di Natar Lampung Selatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen, populasi berjumlah 175 siswa yang terbagi ke dalam 5 kelas. Sampel sebanyak 2 kelas yaitu kelas X1 sebagai kelas eksperimen, dan kelas X2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik sampling yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah cluster random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang penulis gunakan dalam penelitian ini teknik tes yang berupa sejumlah soal yang harus di jawab oleh siswa guna mengetahui presentasinya dengan memberikan tes menulis karangan narasi. Analisis data dalam pengujian hipotesis menggunakan rumus t-test. Hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh hasil ttes = 5,39 dan ttab = 2,00 dan 2,66 berarti thit > ttabel, maka disimpulkan “ada pengaruh strategi pembelajaran generative learning terhadap kemampuan menulis karangan narasi siswa kelas X semester genap SMA Negeri 1 Natar Lampung Selatan Tahun Pelajaran 2015/2016”. Kemampuan mengarang narasi siswa kelas eksperimen yang pembelajarannya diajar menggunakan strategi pembelajaran generative learning memperoleh nilai rata-rata 73,83 sedangkan kelas yang diajar menggunakan strategi pembelajaran konvensional mendapatkan nilai rata-rata 59,42 maka dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa Rata-rata kemampuan mengarang narasi siswa pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol
THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY AND TENSES MASTERY WITH THEIR WRITING ABILTY
The correlation between students’ vocabulary and tenses mastery with their writing ability is interesting to be investigated. The writer took this title of the research because the writer found that the students’ writing ability need to be improved because the lack of vocabulary and tenses mastery. The objectives of this research were to know and described the correlation between students’ vocabulary and their writing ability, to know and described the correlation between students’ tenses mastery and their writing ability, to know and described the correlation between students’ vocabulary and tenses mastery with their writing ability. In this research the writer used descriptive quantitative method. The writer took 40 students’ as the sample from 205 students as the population. The population was the students’ of the eight class at MTs Al-Ikhlas Tanjung Bintang Lampung Selatan in 2015/2016. In getting the sample the writer used Stratified Proporsional Random Sampling Technique. To get the data vocabulary and tenses the writer used objectives test that was multiple choice contains 50 questions and 40 question. To get the data of writing test the writer used essay text. The writer used scoring system proposed by Heaton. Based on the data analysis, it was found that there is correlation between students’ vocabulary and tenses mastery with their writing ability the result showed that the level of the correlation is high, rcount = 0.91 with n:40 higher than rtable = 0.312, which has been counted on product moment table at significance level 5%. The writer concludes there is correlation between students’ vocabulary and tenses mastery with their writing ability of the eight class at Mts Al-ikhlas Tanjung Bingtang Lampung Selatan in 2015/2016
