This paper discusses the process of nursing professional identity construction in modernity. We utilize the ideas of category gender (Lobo, 1991) and modern person (Duarte, 1986). The modernity as a historical process establishes the emergence of work as a central category in the public X private relationship. Understanding the profession as form of construction and public presentation of the modern person, we discuss the nursing professional identity process in relation to its female basis. Working on nursing ethnographic bibliography, we identify a picture that gives to the female basis of the profession the greater cause of dilemmas such as: technical competence, vocation and identity. The present article discusses the construction of the child subjectivity, in existence with situations of chronic illnesses and stigma. We prioritized play expressions as a mechanism of excellence for this process, which facilitates through play the elaboration of stigma by the child. We have utilized a case study as the methodological strategy to illuminate the consequences of stigma - defined as a collection of marks associated with myeloemeningocele in five children with ages ranging from 7 to 8 years. Such children visit and are treated at the Fernandes Figueira Institute from birth. Aside from the direct contact with children, their mothers were interviewed in order to recover and register their personal histories, having as the main chronological marks: the news of the pregnancy, the prenatal care, the diagnostical examinations and the verification of the anomaly in their children, the birth and finally, the sociability networks, prioritizing family, school and hospital interactions. It was concluded that the technical action mediated by Play in child health serves as potent instrument for the construction of an integral clinic. Such clinic has as its central epithet the bond of trust established in the encounter amongst people, and that it will facilitate their relationship and social exchange which transcends the reductionist health-care model.O presente artigo discute a construção da subjetividade infantil, em situações de vivência com o adoecimento crônico e o estigma.

Objectives: To describe the strategies used for children and adolescents adherence to anti-retroviral therapy, described in the scientific literature, and discuss the role of nursing staff across the adherence of children and adolescents with anti-retroviral therapy. Method: An exploratory bibliography of articles selected by VHL. Results: We found 15 scientific works related to the theme. Conclusion: We found individual strategies of approach, focused on children and adolescents, and group centered on the family / caregivers. It was found that regardless of the approach used, the family / caregiver is directly involved in the disease process of the child and adolescent anti-retroviral therapy. We conclude that the practice of care needs to be constantly evaluated to develop appropriate interventions for its improvement. The care strategies were shown to be the way to successful adherence to anti-retroviral therapy, as were evaluative and interventional later problems related to adherence

This research discusses the chronic illness process in young people in the context of social exchanges based on the gift theory. The objective is to analyze the meanings of being a young person with chronic kidney disease in the universe of social exchanges of care goods. The research, which is of a qualitative nature, was carried out in one health care unit spe cialized in dealing with young people with chronic kidney disease in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Eleven young people - aged between 12 and 20 years - and 4 health care professionals, involved in the care of this group, participated in this study. The refe rential methodological and theoretic system was guided by Schütz's Comprehensive Sociology that allows the exploration of the social relationship based on the experience of the subject. The results reveal the importance of the symbolic exchange between the young person and the health care ser vice in the constitution and full experience of being young, as well as the relevance of the young person's perspective in the construction of the care system and the health care providers' practice. With this study, the importance of enlarging young persons' role was obvious and, stimulated by the health care, we tried to recognize this group as a potential agent of its own health, as well as of other subjects that are also included in the context of a chronic disease

The experience with an intervention program conducted in an educational institution and targeted to families of children with congenital Zika syndrome, which includes multiple disabilities, revealed the challenges and strides with the entry of these families in the school system. This article aimed to explore the findings from a study conducted after the conclusion of an intervention program, using semi-open interviews with professional staff at the institution and the possible contributions towards establishing inter-sector relations aimed at school inclusion of children with disabilities. A change was seen, as a result of the program, in the relationship between the families and the professionals at the educational institution, whereby the families had room to voice their fears and discuss the school's role in the lives of their children with disabilities. The professionals thus came to see the families taking a more active stance. This experience can favor other services and municipalities that seek school inclusion for children and adolescents with disabilities, as well as their social inclusion and that of their families

Hope and trust in times of Zika: the views of caregivers and healthcare workers at the forefront of the epidemic in Brazil.

This article investigates how hope and trust played out for two groups at the forefront of the Zika epidemic: caregivers of children with congenital Zika syndrome and healthcare workers. We conducted 76 in-depth interviews with members of both groups to examine hope and trust in clinical settings, as well as trust in public institutions, in the health system and in the government of Brazil. During and after the Zika epidemic, hope and trust were important to manage uncertainty and risk, given the lack of scientific evidence about the neurological consequences of Zika virus infection. The capacity of healthcare workers and caregivers to trust and to co-create hope seems to have allowed relationships to develop that cushioned social impacts, reinforced adherence to therapeutics and enabled information flow. Hope facilitated parents to trust healthcare workers and interventions. Hope and trust appeared to be central in the establishment of support networks for caregivers. At the same time, mistrust in the government and state institutions may have allowed rumours and alternative explanations about Zika to spread. It may also have strengthened activism in mother's associations, which seemed to have both positive and negative implications for healthcare service delivery. The findings also point to distrust in international health actors and global health agenda, which can impact community engagement in future outbreak responses in Brazil and other countries in Latin America

Stigmas of congenital Zika syndrome: family perspectives.

This article uses a socio-anthropological framework to explore the stigmas around interactions with children born with congenital Zika syndrome caused by the Zika virus epidemic in two Brazilian municipalities. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents and other relatives. We reflected on the search for meaning when having a baby with unexpected body marks, the moral suffering, the societal ableism, the burden of care, and the need for support networks. We concluded that public policies, especially social policies (health, education, and social assistance), are essential for compensatory mechanisms, recognition, and social inclusion of these children and their families
