Effect of age of Japanese quail on physical and biochemical characteristics of eggs

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of age of birds on egg quality in Japanese quail. The eggs were randomly selected from among all eggs laid on the same day when the birds were 15, 23 and 31 weeks old. At each time point, 90 fresh eggs were evaluated for their physical and biochemical characteristics. Egg weights were similar over time. At 23 and 31 weeks, the eggs had less shell than at 15 weeks. Crude fat and ash contents of the eggs increased with the age of the birds. Crude protein was also highest in eggs of the oldest quail. At 31 weeks old, the eggs were lowest in pH of yolk and white. Quail that were 23 and 31 weeks old laid eggs with significantly higher polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and lower saturated fatty acid (SFA) contents. The lowest cholesterol content was in egg yolks from 23-week-old quail. The oldest birds had the highest contents of sodium, potassium, zinc, selenium, copper, and manganese. The content and activity of lysozyme decreased with ageing of the birds. From the consumers’ point of view, eggs from older birds appeared to be the most valuable. At the same time, as the quail ages, the antibacterial properties of eggs deteriorate, which may indicate a shorter shelf life

Przedstawiono wyniki doświadczeń nad zastosowaniem chromatografii cienkowarstwowej (TLC) do analizy nowych wysokoenergetycznych materiałów (HNIW, TEX, TNAZ, DADNE) na tle stosowanych powszechnie klasycznych materiałów wysokoenergetycznych. Dobrano układ chromatograficzny umożliwiający poprawny rozdział badanych związków i określono ich parametry analityczne. Zaproponowane rozwiązanie analityczne wykorzystano do identyfikacji powybuchowych pozostałości materiałów wybuchowych w próbach gleby i betonu. Anality wydobywano z matryc techniką ekstrakcji cieczowej, a następnie zatężano, oczyszczano i analizowano za pomocą TLC (TLC wykorzystano do celów preparatywnych i anlitycznych). Wykazano możliwość wykorzystania zaproponowanej procedury analitycznej do identyfikacji powybuchowych pozostałości materiałów wybuchowych w próbkach pobranych z miejsc zdarzeń.Results of invastigation on application of instrumented thin layer chromatography (TLC) in detection and analysis of novel high energetic explosives such as HNIW, TEX, TNAZ and DADNE in the presence of conventional explosives like TNT, HMX, RDX, PETN and TETRYL are presented. Chromatographic systems that make possible the separation of the tested explosives were found and the analytical parameters were determined. The developed analytical procedures were used to identify the compounds in post explosion environmental samples. Analytes were recovered from soil and concrete by liquid extraction and the concentrated extracts were purified and analyzed using TLC technique (TLC was used for preparative and analytical purposes). The possibility of application of the procedures for identification of post explosion of the explosives in samples, taken from the place where an explosives charge has been detonated, is confirme

The paper presents results of analyses of the volatile compound profile provided by GC/MS for three types of litters from laying houses (poultry houses for layer hens). Among 115 identified volatile compounds 46 were found to be metabolites of microscopic fungi, predominantly aldehydes and ketones accounting on average for 0.52 (RU - peak area/area of internal standard - tridecane) for wheat straw up to 2.75 (RU) for chopped chaff, as well as hydrocarbons ranging from 0.18 (RU) for chopped chaff up to 1.09 (RU) for rye straw. Discriminant analysis showed the greatest role of 2-methylbutanal, 1-heptanol, naphthalene and trichodiene in the population distribution of groups of analyzed litter samples based on their profiles of volatile compounds

Influence of Effective Microorganisms and Clinoptilolite on Gut Barrier Function, Intestinal Health and Performance of Broiler Chickens during Induced Eimeria tenella Infection

The prohibition of certain coccidiostats in poultry has created a need to seek an alternative to control Eimeria infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of effective microorganisms (EM) in a multi-strain probiotic (Bokashi®), with clinoptilolite as a feed supplement on the mRNA expression of tight junction proteins and redox enzymes in the caecal tissue of chickens infected with E. tenella. The integrity of the intestinal barrier was tested by determining the concentration of fluorescein isothiocyanate dextran (FITC-d) in the chicken’s serum. A total of 600 1-day-old Ross 308 male chickens received diets with a 0.5% or 0.8% concentration of the probiotic together with clinoptilolite. The experiment used 5 treatment groups, and a control group, each with 5 replicates with 20 birds. The results indicate that the use of the 8 kg/t of feed multi-strain probiotic together with clinoptilolite in the diet of poultry caused a significant reduction in the number of E. tenella oocysts in the faeces and caecum and significantly improved the growth rate of chicken broilers infected with E. tenella. In addition, the probiotic and clinoptilolite enhanced antioxidant processes in the caecal mucosa and reduced oxidative stress induced by E. tenella infection
