Ludic Transgression of Being in a Postmodern Culture

    Get PDF
The subject of this article is games as a form and mode of being considered through the prism of transgression. Contemporary individuals lose themselves in a ludic mode of being, shifting the boundaries of the discourse so that the original meaning is replaced, dissolving in the confluence of multiple positions and ways of existence, thus allowing a person to transgress the law and the foundation without abolishing the traditional norm. Individual transgression becomes a way of satisfying unattainable desires, an act and a form of self-realization and self-presentation

At the same time, phacoemulsification of cataracts remains the most popular surgery. But the problem among phacosurgeons is the correction of existing corneal astigmatism. According to studies, about 30% of the world's population have corneal astigmatism with a strength of 0.75D and above, which leads to a decrease in visual acuity after phacoemulsification of cataracts in the absence of its correction. The most commonly used method to correct corneal astigmatism is the implantation of toric intraocular lenses (TIOL). The main condition for obtaining high visual acuity after TIOL implantation is the location of the astigmatic component of the artificial lens in accordance with the strong meridian of the cornea. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method of preventing the toric intraocular lens rotation after phacoemulsification of cataracts in the eyes with corneal astigmatism by implantation of a standart capsule ring.Material and methods. The article presents the results of a comprehensive examination of 43 patients (59 eyes) who underwent surgery by phacoemulsification of cataracts with implantation of toric IOL to correct concomitant corneal astigmatism. Corneal astigmatism according to keratometry ranged from 0.5D to 4.25D (average 1.96 ± 0.1 D). Patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group consisted of 26 patients (31 eyes). Patients in this group underwent phacoemulsification with toric IOL implantation according to standard techniques without the use of techniques that prevent rotation of the artificial lens in the postoperative period. The second group included 18 patients (28 eyes) who were operated on according to our proposed prevention method of TIOL rotation. As a result of the study, it was found that rotation of TIOL was detected 6 months after surgery in the I group without the use of developed method in 22 eyes (70.9%), in the II group, where the capsule ring was implanted, rotation occurred in 12 eyes (42.85%). In the II group in all cases, the deviation of the TIOL axis did not exceed 6 degrees. The proposed method of prevention of rotation of TIOL allows to increase the efficiency of phacoemulsification of cataracts.Conclusions. Developed a method of preventing the rotation of the toric intraocular lens using a standard capsule ring, which is implanted and located on top of the haptic support elements of the artificial lens can increase the efficiency of phacoemulsification of cataracts in the eyes with corneal astigmatism, contributes to the rotational stability of the toric lens and provides long-term results of visual functions, reduces the need for repeated surgery due to reposition of the rotated lens and can be recommended for implementation in the practice of ophthalmic surgeons. The use of implantation of a standard capsule ring according to the proposed in this study method prevents the rotation of the toric intraocular lens by more than 6 degrees in all cases, which does not significantly reduce visual acuity and does not require reposition of the artificial lens. This method of preventing rotation of the toric intraocular lens allows to achieve visual acuity of 0.7 and above in 85.6% of cases

Can the diagnosis of recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis be improved by use of vaginal lavage samples and cultures on chromogenic agar?

OBJECTIVE: To investigate if introital and vaginal flushing samples inoculated on chromogenic agar could increase the recovery rate and rapid identification of Candida and non-albicans species, as compared to culture of posterior vaginal fornix samples on Sabouraud agar and speciation of isolates by biochemical tests. METHODS: Samples from the introitus and the posterior vaginal fornix and vaginal lavage samples were collected from 91 women with a history suggestive of recurrent vulvovaginal candidosis (RVVC), and with a suspected new attack of the condition. The specimens were cultured on Sabouraud and CHROMagar. Speciation of yeast isolates was made on the chromogenic agar by API 32C kits and by an atomized system (Vitek). RESULTS: Forty-six (51%) women were positive for Candida from one or more of the samples. The introital cultures were positive in 43 (47%) women, both on Sabouraud and chromogenic agar. From the posterior vaginal fomix, 42 (46%) women were positive on the Sabouraud and 43 (47%) on chromogenic agar cultures, while the vaginal lavage cultures yielded Candida on those two media in 40 (44%) and 41 (45%) cases, respectively. Candida albicans was the most frequent species recovered, from 40 (87%) cases, followed by C. krusei in 4 (9%), C. glabrata in 2 (4%), and C. parapsilosis in one case. There was only one woman who had a mixed yeast infection, by C. albicans and C. krusei. There was only one discrepancy in the speciation as demonstrated by mean of chromogenic agar and API 32C kit. CONCLUSIONS: Neither cultures of introital nor of vaginal lavage samples increases the detection rate of Candida in RVVC cases as compared to cultures of posterior vaginal fornix samples. Use of chromogenic agar is a convenient and reliable means to detect colonization by Candida and differentiate between C. albicans and non-albicans species

Temperature dependence of the electron spin g factor in GaAs

    Get PDF
The temperature dependence of the electron spin gg factor in GaAs is investigated experimentally and theoretically. Experimentally, the gg factor was measured using time-resolved Faraday rotation due to Larmor precession of electron spins in the temperature range between 4.5 K and 190 K. The experiment shows an almost linear increase of the gg value with the temperature. This result is in good agreement with other measurements based on photoluminescence quantum beats and time-resolved Kerr rotation up to room temperature. The experimental data are described theoretically taking into account a diminishing fundamental energy gap in GaAs due to lattice thermal dilatation and nonparabolicity of the conduction band calculated using a five-level kp model. At higher temperatures electrons populate higher Landau levels and the average gg factor is obtained from a summation over many levels. A very good description of the experimental data is obtained indicating that the observed increase of the spin gg factor with the temperature is predominantly due to band's nonparabolicity.Comment: 6 pages 4 figure

Communicative search for a way out of the impasse in cross-cultural communication: conditions for narrowing the "gaps" between the languages

    Get PDF
The paper addresses the issue of linguistic differences in cross-cultural communication and discusses communicative strategies that could be used to mitigate them. The authors argue that lingua-didactic multicultural education can help remove the main obstacle in the traditional teaching of Russian as a foreign language (RFL) - a "clash of cultures"; and not only can introduce a model of teaching to write, read, and speak in Russian, but can also offer a system of instruction that will allow the students to understand the way Russians think, which surely would make it easier for them to "translate" a text from one culture into another in a non-native "cultural environment" providing a polylingual format for interactio

    Diffusion-induced Ramsey narrowing

A novel form of Ramsey narrowing is identified and characterized. For long-lived coherent atomic states coupled by laser fields, the diffusion of atoms in-and-out of the laser beam induces a spectral narrowing of the atomic resonance lineshape. Illustrative experiments and an intuitive analytical model are presented for this diffusion-induced Ramsey narrowing, which occurs commonly in optically-interrogated systems.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figure
