Development of a Gd Loaded Liquid Scintillator for Electron Anti-Neutrino Spectroscopy
We report on the development and deployment of 11.3 tons of 0.1% Gd loaded
liquid scintillator used in the Palo Verde reactor neutrino oscillation
experiment. We discuss the chemical composition, properties, and stability of
the scintillator elaborating on the details of the scintillator preparation
crucial for obtaining a good scintillator quality and stability.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, submitted to NIM
New global stability estimates for the Gel'fand-Calderon inverse problem
We prove new global stability estimates for the Gel'fand-Calderon inverse
problem in 3D. For sufficiently regular potentials this result of the present
work is a principal improvement of the result of [G. Alessandrini, Stable
determination of conductivity by boundary measurements, Appl. Anal. 27 (1988),
153-172]
Transverse field effect in graphene ribbons
It is shown that a graphene ribbon, a ballistic strip of carbon monolayer,
may serve as a quantum wire whose electronic properties can be continuously and
reversibly controlled by an externally applied transverse voltage. The electron
bands of armchair-edge ribbons undergo dramatic transformations: The Fermi
surface fractures, Fermi velocity and effective mass change sign, and
excitation gaps are reduced by the transverse field. These effects are manifest
in the conductance plateaus, van Hove singularities, thermopower, and activated
transport. The control over one-dimensional bands may help enhance effects of
electron correlations, and be utilized in device applications.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
New global stability estimates for monochromatic inverse acoustic scattering
We give new global stability estimates for monochromatic inverse acoustic
scattering. These estimates essentially improve estimates of [P. Hahner, T.
Hohage, SIAM J. Math. Anal., 33(3), 2001, 670-685] and can be considered as a
solution of an open problem formulated in the aforementioned work
Ultrasoft contribution to heavy-quark pair production near threshold
We compute the third-order correction to the heavy-quark current correlation
function due to the emission and absorption of an ultrasoft gluon. Our result
supplies a missing contribution to top-quark pair production near threshold and
the determination of the bottom quark mass from QCD sum rules.Comment: 10 pages, LaTe
The Dual of Supersymmetric SU(2k) with an Antisymmetric Tensor and Composite Dualities
We suggest a dual to an Susy gauge theory containing an
antisymmetric tensor, \nf fundamentals and \nfb anti-fundamentals. This is
done by expanding the theory into an equivalent description with two gauge
groups and then performing known duality tranformations on each gauge group
separately. Chiral operators, mass perturbations and flat directions are
discussed.Comment: 17 pages, Harvma
