Diabetic ketoacidosis with mild hyperglycemia associated with the use of canagliflozin. Report of one case with type 1 diabetes
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus; Scielo.Diabetic ketoacidosis with mild hyperglycemia is a major complication of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors. Although its use is not approved for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, the drug is often prescribed with the hope of optimizing metabolic control. We report a 20 years old female with hypo-thyroidism and type 1 diabetes consulting for vomiting and abdominal pain. The patient had used canagliflozin during the two previous months. Laboratory showed a blood glucose of 200 mg/dl, a severe metabolic acidosis (pH 7.1) and ketonemia. The patient was successfully treated in the intensive care unit.http://ref.scielo.org/65brd
Hamiltonian submanifolds of regular polytopes
We investigate polyhedral -manifolds as subcomplexes of the boundary
complex of a regular polytope. We call such a subcomplex {\it -Hamiltonian}
if it contains the full -skeleton of the polytope. Since the case of the
cube is well known and since the case of a simplex was also previously studied
(these are so-called {\it super-neighborly triangulations}) we focus on the
case of the cross polytope and the sporadic regular 4-polytopes. By our results
the existence of 1-Hamiltonian surfaces is now decided for all regular
polytopes.
Furthermore we investigate 2-Hamiltonian 4-manifolds in the -dimensional
cross polytope. These are the "regular cases" satisfying equality in Sparla's
inequality. In particular, we present a new example with 16 vertices which is
highly symmetric with an automorphism group of order 128. Topologically it is
homeomorphic to a connected sum of 7 copies of . By this
example all regular cases of vertices with or, equivalently, all
cases of regular -polytopes with are now decided.Comment: 26 pages, 4 figure
Hydrodynamic bubble coarsening in off-critical vapour-liquid phase separation
Late-stage coarsening in off-critical vapour-liquid phase separation is
re-examined. In the limit of bubbles of vapour distributed throughout a
continuous liquid phase, it is argued that coarsening proceeds via inertial
hydrodynamic bubble collapse. This replaces the Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner
mechanism seen in binary liquid mixtures. The arguments are strongly supported
by simulations in two dimensions using a novel single-component soft sphere
fluid.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, revtex3.
Towards Better Integrators for Dissipative Particle Dynamics Simulations
Coarse-grained models that preserve hydrodynamics provide a natural approach
to study collective properties of soft-matter systems. Here, we demonstrate
that commonly used integration schemes in dissipative particle dynamics give
rise to pronounced artifacts in physical quantities such as the compressibility
and the diffusion coefficient. We assess the quality of these integration
schemes, including variants based on a recently suggested self-consistent
approach, and examine their relative performance. Implications of
integrator-induced effects are discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

Evaluation of supramolecular complex of fenbendazole effect on embryonic development
The purpose of the research is to study the embryotropic effect of supramolecular complex of fenbendazole (SMСF).Materials and methods. The experiment to assess the embryotropic properties of SMCF was carried out on 40 white female and 20 male rats in accordance with the Guidelines for the experimental (preclinical) study of new pharmacological substances. Pregnant female rats were divided into 3 experimental and one control groups. SMCF was administered intragastrically on the 1–6 days of embryogenesis (group 1); on the 7–14 days (group 2) and on the 15–19 days (group 3) in three times therapeutic dose – 6,0 mg/kg of active substance. The animals of the control group received saline from the first to the 19th days of pregnancy. Rats were euthanized on the 20th day of pregnancy. The uterus with fetuses was removed after laparotomy, the number of corpora lutea, implantation sites, the number of living, dead and resorbed fetuses were recorded, the weight and diameter of the placenta were determined. The embryos were examined, weighed, the craniocaudal sizes were determined, the levels of total embryonic, preimplantation and postimplantation embryo death were calculated. The fetuses were examined for abnormalities of internal organs and changes in the skeletal system according to the methods of J. G. Wilson (1965) and A. B. Dawson (1926), modified in the department of embryology of the IEM of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. Results and discussion. As a result, SMCF does not induce toxic effects on the fetus: mortality rates, size and weight of embryos were at the level of the control group in a threefold therapeutic dose 6,0 mg/kg at intragastric administration on the 1–6; 7–14 and 15–19 days of pregnancy. SMCF did not cause external and internal malformations
Vapour-liquid coexistence in many-body dissipative particle dynamics
Many-body dissipative particle dynamics is constructed to exhibit
vapour-liquid coexistence, with a sharp interface, and a vapour phase of
vanishingly small density. In this form, the model is an unusual example of a
soft-sphere liquid with a potential energy built out of local-density dependent
one-particle self energies. The application to fluid mechanics problems
involving free surfaces is illustrated by simulation of a pendant drop.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, revtex
Triangulations and Severi varieties
We consider the problem of constructing triangulations of projective planes
over Hurwitz algebras with minimal numbers of vertices. We observe that the
numbers of faces of each dimension must be equal to the dimensions of certain
representations of the automorphism groups of the corresponding Severi
varieties. We construct a complex involving these representations, which should
be considered as a geometric version of the (putative) triangulations
ПЕРЕНОСИМОСТЬ ПРЕПАРАТА АВЕРТЕЛЬ НА СОБАКАХ В УСЛОВИЯХ СУБХРОНИЧЕСКОГО ОПЫТА
Materials and methods. The results of experiments on 15 dogs showed the effect of Avertel (used at therapeutic and triple doses) on clinical status, hematological and clinical parameters. The drug was injected to dogs daily within 7 days with 24-hour interval subconsciously at a therapeutic dose of 1 ml/kg or 0,5 mg/kg of aversectine C1 and 5 mg/kg of praziquantel and at a triple dose (0,3 ml/kg – 1,5 mg/kg aversectine C1 and 15 mg/kg of praziquantel). Results and discussion. Before injection and 1,5 and 10 days after the last injection the blood samples were collected to determine the hematological and biochemical parameters. The results of observation of general health status and behavior of dogs as well as the clinical, hematological and biochemical parameters serve as evidence of good tolerance of preparation used at the recommended therapeutic and increased doses.
Spin-Hall effect and spin-Coulomb drag in doped semiconductors
In this review, we describe in detail two important spin-transport phenomena:
the extrinsic spin-Hall effect (coming from spin-orbit interactions between
electrons and impurities) and the spin-Coulomb drag. The interplay of these two
phenomena is analyzed. In particular, we discuss the influence of scattering
between electrons with opposite spins on the spin current and the spin
accumulation produced by the spin-Hall effect. Future challenges and open
questions are briefly discussed.Comment: Topical revie
