A Study on the Role of Tamil Films in the Teaching of Social Issues
The impact of movies on women's empowerment has been enormous. Movies have always been one of the most essential sources of entertainment in our modern lives. In movies art, technology, commerce, entertainment, and aesthetics all come together. All four elements play a vital role in the present, as seen by the variety of their manifestations. Movies are about technology, business, and entertainment, while cinema is about aesthetics. Society has a significant influence on film, which is reflected in them. Through the big screen, the film has attempted to reflect and promote awareness about societal issues as well as women's empowerment and reelection since its inception. Casteism, politics, social discrimination, the zamindari system, untouchability, women empowerment, national integration, and so on. The main goal of this research paper is to comprehend the role of movies in the influence of women's empowerment. The following main areas have been considered: the importance of movies, movie tools, learning with movies, and examples, media in development communication, the effect of mass media on motivation, and the positive impact of movies on societies. The secondary data was thoroughly examined based on the study and was available on various mass media related to movies with social messages
Pelvic lymphadenectomy as a component of interval cytoreduction for ovarian cancer: is there a benefit? A pilot study
Background: Management strategy in ovarian cancer includes a combination of cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy. Interval cytoreductive surgery has been shown to be oncologically non-inferior to primary cytoreduction with the additional benefit of reduced morbidity. Lymphadenectomy as a component of cytoreductive surgery has been controversial with an unproven therapeutic benefit. Methods: Records of patients with a histological diagnosis of ovarian cancer and treated with interval cytoreduction were evaluated. Disease related, pathological and treatment data collected for analysis. Results: The study included 32 patients with a mean age of 56 years (41-76). Serous papillary tumors (42%) were the predominate histology and the majority were in stage III disease (84%). Optimal cytoreduction was achieved in 93%. The mean nodal harvest was 9.8 nodes with left pelvic dissection yielding slightly more nodes than the right (4.5 vs 5.2). Nodal positivity was observed in just one patient (3%). A total of 314 were nodes examined with only 2 (0.6%) yielding persistent disease. The nodal positivity yield tested as a categorical variable by the binomial test returned P=0.0001.Conclusions: It is possible to omit pelvic nodal dissection during interval cytoreduction in otherwise optimally cytoreduced patients particularly when imaging and intraoperative assessment are not suggestive of pelvic nodal metastasis
Polymeric Nanoparticles for Brain Drug Delivery - A Review
Background: Blood-brain barrier (BBB) is playing a most hindering role in drug delivery to the brain. Recent research comes out with the nanoparticles approach, is continuously working towards improving the delivery to the brain. Currently, polymeric nanoparticle is extensively involved in many therapies for spatial and temporal targeted areas delivery.
Methods: We did a non-systematic review, and the literature was searched in Google, Science Direct and PubMed. An overview is provided for the formulation of polymeric nanoparticles using different methods, effect of surface modification on the nanoparticle properties with types of polymeric nanoparticles and preparation methods. An account of different nanomedicine employed with therapeutic agent to cross the BBB alone with biodistribution of the drugs
Corneal nerve and brain imaging in mild cognitive impairment and dementia
Background: Visual rating of medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTA) is an accepted structural neuroimaging marker of Alzheimer's disease. Corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) is a non-invasive ophthalmic technique that detects neuronal loss in peripheral and central neurodegenerative disorders. Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of CCM for mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia compared to medial temporal lobe atrophy (MTA) rating on MRI. Methods: Subjects aged 60-85 with no cognitive impairment (NCI), MCI, and dementia based on the ICD-10 criteria were recruited. Subjects underwent cognitive screening, CCM, and MTA rating on MRI. Results: 182 subjects with NCI (n = 36), MCI (n = 80), and dementia (n = 66), including AD (n = 19, 28.8%), VaD (n = 13, 19.7%), and mixed AD (n = 34, 51.5%) were studied. CCM showed a progressive reduction in corneal nerve fiber density (CNFD, fibers/mm2) (32.0±7.5 versus 24.5±9.6 and 20.8±9.3, p < 0.0001), branch density (CNBD, branches/mm2) (90.9±46.5 versus 59.3±35.7 and 53.9±38.7, p < 0.0001), and fiber length (CNFL, mm/mm2) (22.9±6.1 versus 17.2±6.5 and 15.8±7.4, p < 0.0001) in subjects with MCI and dementia compared to NCI. The area under the ROC curve (95% CI) for the diagnostic accuracy of CNFD, CNBD, CNFL compared to MTA-right and MTA-left for MCI was 78% (67-90%), 82% (72-92%), 86% (77-95%) versus 53% (36-69%) and 40% (25-55%), respectively, and for dementia it was 85% (76-94%), 84% (75-93%), 85% (76-94%) versus 86% (76-96%) and 82% (72-92%), respectively. Conclusion: The diagnostic accuracy of CCM, a non-invasive ophthalmic biomarker of neurodegeneration, was high and comparable with MTA rating for dementia but was superior to MTA rating for MCI
Construction of copy number variation landscape and characterization of associated genes in a Bangladeshi cohort of neurodevelopmental disorders
Introduction: Copy number variations (CNVs) play a critical role in the pathogenesis of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) among children. In this study, we aim to identify clinically relevant CNVs, genes and their phenotypic characteristics in an ethnically underrepresented homogenous population of Bangladesh. Methods: We have conducted chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) for 212 NDD patients with male to female ratio of 2.2:1.0 to identify rare CNVs. To identify candidate genes within the rare CNVs, gene constraint metrics [i.e., “Critical-Exon Genes (CEGs)”] were applied to the population data. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-Second Edition (ADOS-2) was followed in a subset of 95 NDD patients to assess the severity of autism and all statistical tests were performed using the R package. Results: Of all the samples assayed, 12.26% (26/212) and 57.08% (121/212) patients carried pathogenic and variant of uncertain significance (VOUS) CNVs, respectively. While 2.83% (6/212) patients’ pathogenic CNVs were found to be located in the subtelomeric regions. Further burden test identified females are significant carriers of pathogenic CNVs compared to males (OR = 4.2; p = 0.0007). We have observed an increased number of Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) within cases with 23.85% (26/109) consanguineous parents. Our analyses on imprinting genes show, 36 LOH variants disrupting 69 unique imprinted genes and classified these variants as VOUS. ADOS-2 subset shows severe social communication deficit (p = 0.014) and overall ASD symptoms severity (p = 0.026) among the patients carrying duplication CNV compared to the CNV negative group. Candidate gene analysis identified 153 unique CEGs in pathogenic CNVs and 31 in VOUS. Of the unique genes, 18 genes were found to be in smaller (<1 MB) focal CNVs in our NDD cohort and we identified PSMC3 gene as a strong candidate gene for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Moreover, we hypothesized that KMT2B gene duplication might be associated with intellectual disability. Conclusion: Our results show the utility of CMA for precise genetic diagnosis and its integration into the diagnosis, therapy and management of NDD patients
Association of Cerebral Ischemia With Corneal Nerve Loss and Brain Atrophy in MCI and Dementia
IntroductionThis study assessed the association of cerebral ischemia with neurodegeneration in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia.MethodsSubjects with MCI, dementia and controls underwent assessment of cognitive function, severity of brain ischemia, MRI brain volumetry and corneal confocal microscopy.ResultsOf 63 subjects with MCI (n = 44) and dementia (n = 19), 11 had no ischemia, 32 had subcortical ischemia and 20 had both subcortical and cortical ischemia. Brain volume and corneal nerve measures were comparable between subjects with subcortical ischemia and no ischemia. However, subjects with subcortical and cortical ischemia had a lower hippocampal volume (P < 0.01), corneal nerve fiber length (P < 0.05) and larger ventricular volume (P < 0.05) compared to those with subcortical ischemia and lower corneal nerve fiber density (P < 0.05) compared to those without ischemia.DiscussionCerebral ischemia was associated with cognitive impairment, brain atrophy and corneal nerve loss in MCI and dementia
Parents' awareness and perception of children's refractive error : a qualitative study
Uncorrected refractive error is the leading cause of moderate and severe visual impairment across the globe. An important driver for early detection and management of refractive errors among children is appropriate parental
awareness. This study aims to understand the awareness and perception among parents of children with refractive errors utilizing the conceptual framework of Health Belief Model. This qualitative study focused to conduct semi-structured interviews of parents who sought eye care for their children. Thirty-five parents who visited an eye care center for refractive error correction of their children between 5 to 15 years of age were purposively selected. The four constructs of the Health Belief Model (perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and
perceived barriers) were applied to prepare the interview guide. The voice records of participants were transcribed verbatim, coded and qualitatively analyzed to generate relevant themes. All participants were well aware of refractive errors and the implications of them on the visual and social development of children if they leave the errors untreated. However, there were varying perception about refractive error leading to serious consequences. The enanced quality of life with proper refractive correction prompted parents to seek timely eyecare for their children
