In the recent years there has been a growing concern and debate about ethical values linked to organic foods production and consumption. The growing interest in organic and ethical production and trade has been both consumer driven and trade driven (Browne et al., 2000). Although the debates around the ethics of organic food have typically been framed around a divide between production and consumption (Clarke et al., 2008). Therefore, the present research focus on perceptions and motives of ethical consumer. It’s aimed initially at exploring the knowledge and awareness of apulian consumers about the link between ethical values and organic production and consumption

The purpose of this study to assess the level of Good Governance Indicators (Political stability, government effectiveness, and control of corruption) in Libya, to analyze the differences between perception‘s of each of (Job Categories, Job Positions, and Job Experience) of Middle-Class Libyans on these Indicators in Libya, and to recommend some improvements of Good Governance in Libya. Numerous hypotheses and questions were adopted for achieving to the study objectives. Survey instrument were distributed to the respondents (N = 400) comprising of Middle-Class in the governmental sector, private sector, civil society, and academics. Data analysis started with evaluating data reliability, and ANOVA test to assess the hypotheses. For the assessment the Good Governance level, the respondent‘s answers on the questions of each of Good Governance Indicators which assessed by the mean for aiming to reach to assessment the level of Good Governance in Libya. Besides used the interviews with some of who are responsible in the Libyan government, private sector, and civil society for getting their perceptions about Good Governance situation in Libya. World Bank reports about Good Governance in Libya during (1996-2010) also used for supporting the findings which obtained by the survey and the interviews. However, the study found that, there is agreement on the weakness of Good Governance of adopted indicators of this study in Libya, and there are some differences in the perceptions of respondents about the application of indicators of Good Governance in Libya. Finally, several recommendations and implications were drawn from the study

Exploring the Serbian consumer attitude towards agro-food products with ethical values: organic, fair-trade and typical/traditional products

The new Millennium has seen a renewed and intensified interest in issues of business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). This has been partly driven by a wave of concern about conduct and governance of business and partly reflects a growing interest amongst consumers, policy makers and businesses, in forms of production and consumption that are more sustainable and more ethically oriented. This is typified by growth in demand of products encompassing ethical values such as organic and Fair Trade products. However, research knowledge base about consumers and their behaviour and attitude from an ethical perspective is relatively weak. Consumer attitude to foods is mainly influenced by concerns (e.g. food safety, human health, environmental impact) and commodity attributes (e.g. quality, taste, freshness and packaging). The objective of this paper is to get an insight on Serbian consumer attitude towards agro-food products with ethical values (AFPEV) namely organic, Fair Trade and typical/traditional products. This paper is based on the literature and an online self-administered questionnaire, carried out from December 2010 through June 2011 with 104 Serbian adult consumers, dealing with understanding of and knowledge about AFP and relationships with ethical values; AFPEV buying frequency; main criteria and reasons for buying AFPEV; opinion about AFPEV price and consumer willingness to pay; potential impacts on animal health and welfare as well environmental, economic social and civic impacts of buying AFPEV; purchasing channels; and main sources of information about AFPEV. Serbian consumers have a good knowledge about AFPEV that are bought by 98% of the sample. Most of the respondents relate ethical values to the respect of environment (73.5%) and organic production (49.0%). The main reasons for buying AFPEV are quality (35%), organic certification (17%), and taste (15%). Price seems less important. The main sources of information about AFPEV are mass media, newspapers and magazines (summing up 46%). However, the majority of Serbian consumers prefer to get information directly from the supply chain actors mainly sellers and/or producers. AFPEV are bought mainly from the specialized shops (34%) and supermarkets (26%) to achieve personal satisfaction, for health, safety, natural resources conservation, and environment protection. Consumers do not always buy sustainable products as consequences of environmental concern or to benefit the community or due to personal beliefs but mainly to give priority to health. Ethical factors are important in some cases, but they may be overstated. Results indicated that most Serbian consumers perceived that AFPEV as healthier and portray a positive attitude towards AFPEV thus showing a high willingness to pay higher prices. Serbian consumers seem to have a positive attitude towards organic, fair trade and typical products due to the sustainable benefits that they can bring about. Therefore, institutional and domestic market conditions should be improved for insuring long-term market development and information campaigns should be organised to increase Serbian consumers’ awareness and consciousness and to strengthen their positive attitude towards AFPEV

The objective of this work is to study the effects of contact parameters on the cracking parameters of a specimen and a pad assembly. These parameters have been studied and evaluated by the finite element method analysis in two dimensions fretting fatigue model through the Abaqus calculation code. Different values of the coefficient of friction of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.6 were applied on the various lengths in contact for a = 0.1, 0.5 and 1mm. Thus, on the various values of angle of orientation of the crack equal to 15 °, 30 ° and 45 °. In addition, elements of the type (CPE4R) and the criterion of maximum tangential stress were applied. The curves of the crack parameters such as the SIF coefficients and the integral J were obtained and discussed

Aim of study: The objective of the study was the comparative assessment of various spatial resolutions of optical satellite imagery including Landsat-TM, ASTER, and Quickbird data to estimate the forest structure attributes of Hyrcanian forests, Golestan province, northernIran.Material and methods: The 112 square plots with area of0.09 ha were measured using a random cluster sampling method and then stand volume, basal area, and tree stem density were computed using measured data. After geometric and atmospheric corrections of images, the spectral attributes from original and different synthetic bands were extracted for modelling. The statistical modelling was performed using CART algorithm. Performance assessment of models was examined using the unused validation plots by RMSE and bias measures.Main Results: The results showed that model of Quickbird data for stand volume, basal area, and tree stem density had a better performance compared to ASTER and TM data. However, estimations by ASTER and TM imagery had slightly similar results for all three parameters.Research highlights: This study exposed that the high-resolution satellite data are more useful for forest structure attributes estimation in the Hyrcanian broadleaves forests compared with medium resolution images without consideration of images costs. However, regarding to be free of the most medium resolution data such as ASTER and TM,ETM+ or OLI images, these data can be used with slightly similar results.  Keywords: Forest structure attributes; quickbird; ASTER; TM; CART algorithm; Hyrcanian forests

© Nova Science Publishers, Inc. Chronic neck pain is a relatively common problem that can interfere with daily activities, and it is often experienced following musculoskeletal injuries. To identify the impact of intensive neuromuscular electrical stimulation (INES) for reducing chronic neck pain in a 21-year-old female athlete, following a traumatic sports injury, which occurred two years earlier. A treatment package including three separate sessions of intensive neuromuscular electrical stimulation and exercise therapy were prescribed. Outcomes measurements were short form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ), visual analogue scale (VAS), and the neck disability index (NDI). Measurements were performed at baseline, following the intervention, and three months later. Following our intervention; VAS score decreased from 6/10 to 3/10, and 1/10 after three months; and NDI decreased from 54/100 to 18/100, and 10/100 after three months. A combination of INES and resistance training significantly reduced neck pain after three months in a female gymnast. Further research is required to determine the effectiveness of this combination of treatments in larger cohorts with more diffuse musculoskeletal conditions
