Multi-Script Morphological Transducers And Transcribers For Seven Turkic Languages
This paper describes ongoing work to augment morphological transducers for seven Turkic languages with support for multiple scripts each, as well as respective IPA transcription systems. Evaluation demonstrates that our approach yields coverage equivalent to or not much lower than that of the base transducers
UD Annotatrix: An Annotation Tool For Universal Dependencies
In this paper we introduce the UD Annotatrix annotation tool for manual annotation of Universal Dependencies. This tool has been designed with the aim that it should be tailored to the needs of the Universal Dependencies (UD) community, including that it should operate in fully-offline mode, and is freely-available under the GNU GPL licence. In this paper, we provide some background to the tool, an overview of its development, and background on how it works. We compare it with some other widely-used tools which are used for Universal Dependencies annotation, describe some features unique to UD Annotatrix, and finally outline some avenues for future work and provide a few concluding remarks
KPD1930+2752 - a candidate Type Ia supernova progenitor
We present spectra of the pulsating sdB star KPD1930+2752 which confirm that
this star is a binary. The radial velocities measured from the H-alpha and
HeI6678 spectral lines vary sinusoidally with the same period (2h 17m) as the
ellipsoidal variability seen by Billeres et al. (2000). The amplitude of the
orbital motion (349.3+-2.7 km/s) combined with the canonical mass for sdB stars
(0.5 solar masses) implies a total mass for the binary of 1.47+-0.01 solar
masses The unseen companion star is almost certainly a white dwarf star. The
binary will merge within about 200 million years due to gravitational wave
radiation. The accretion of helium and other elements heavier than hydrogen
onto the white dwarf which then exceeds the Chandrasekhar mass (1.4 solar
masses) is a viable model for the cause of Type Ia supernovae. KPD1930+2752 is
the first star to be discovered which is a good candidate for the progenitor of
a Type Ia supernova of this type which will merge on an astrophysically

Binaries among Ap and Am stars
The results of long-term surveys of radial velocities of cool Ap and Am stars
are presented. There are two samples, one of about 100 Ap stars and the other
of 86 Am stars. Both have been observed with the CORAVEL scanner from
Observatoire de Haute-Provence (CNRS), France.
The conspicuous lack of short-period binaries among cool Ap stars seems
confirmed, although this may be the result of an observational bias; one system
has a period as short as 1.6 days. A dozen new orbits could be determined,
including that of one SB2 system. Considering the mass functions of 68 binaries
from the literature and from our work, we conclude that the distribution of the
mass ratios is the same for the Bp-Ap stars than for normal G dwarfs.
Among the Am stars, we found 52 binaries, i.e. 60%; an orbit could be
computed for 29 of them. Among these 29, there are 7 SB2 systems, one triple
and one quadruple system. The 21 stars with an apparently constant radial
velocity may show up later as long-period binaries with a high eccentricity.
The mass functions of the SB1 systems are compatible with cool main-sequence

Lithium in field Am and normal A-F-type stars
Preliminary abundances of lithium and a few other elements have been obtained
for 31 field Am stars with good Hipparcos parallaxes, as well as for 36 normal
A and F stars. Radial and projected rotational velocities were determined as
well. We examine the Li abundance as a function of the stellar parameters: for
normal stars, it is clearly bimodal for Teff < 7500 K, while Am-Fm stars are
all somewhat Li-deficient in this range. The most Li-deficient stars - either
Am or normal - tend to be at least slightly evolved, but the reverse is not

Energy-balance climate models
An introductory survey of the global energy balance climate models is presented with an emphasis on analytical results. A sequence of increasingly complicated models involving ice cap and radiative feedback processes are solved and the solutions and parameter sensitivities are studied. The model parameterizations are examined critically in light of many current uncertainties. A simple seasonal model is used to study the effects of changes in orbital elements on the temperature field. A linear stability theorem and a complete nonlinear stability analysis for the models are developed. Analytical solutions are also obtained for the linearized models driven by stochastic forcing elements. In this context the relation between natural fluctuation statistics and climate sensitivity is stressed
Geographic analysis of multiple sensor data from the NASA/USGS earth resources program
Qualitative and quantitative analyses were made of multi-sensor data acquired during aircraft missions. While the principal analysis effort was concentrated on imagery taken over test sites in Southern California, data were also studied from records acquired on missions over test sites at Phoenix, Chicago, Asheville, and New Orleans. The objectives of the analyses were: (1) to determine the capabilities of ten remote sensors in identifying the elements of information necessary in conducting geographic investigations in land use analysis, urban problems, surface energy budget, and soil moisture; (2) to determine the feasibility of using these sensors for these purposes at orbital altitudes; and (3) to collate and analyze ground and air data previously collected and assemble it in a format useful in the accomplishment of cost effectiveness studies
