There may exist in this world agricultural communicators who are not limited in their operations budget - but I doubt it. There also may be those communicators whose publication operations are the showcase of efficiency - I doubt that too

Disinfection Efficiency and Relative Toxicity of Chlorine and Bromine Chloride: A Pilot Plant Study in an Estuarine Environment

    Get PDF
The present study was conducted by the Virginia Interagency Task Force on Chlorine to compare the relative merits of bromine chloride and chlorine as wastewater disinfectants. Operational and disinfection qualities of both halogens and the relative toxicities of the treated effluents were studied in a pilot scale system. Three specific objectives were pursued; 1. an evaluation of the relative disinfection capabilities of the two halogens; 2. an assessment of the toxicity of each effluent stream to juvenile spot; and 3. an analysis of the halogenated organics produced in treated and disinfected effluent. The results of studies directed at the first two objectives are the subject of this report. Results of chemical analyses of halogenated organics in treated and disinfected sewage effluents will be the subject of a subsequent report

Models of design and technology and their significance for research and curriculum development

Modelling is the activity that is central to designing, and is therefore central in the designing of a school curriculum. The models of designing and of the curriculum that are formed shape both the evolution of the curriculum and its subsequent evaluation. A brief introduction charts some of the reasons for the evolution of simplistic models of designing and notes some of their dangers. The nature of problems in design and technology is discussed. Some theoretical difficulties in expressing ideas about design and technology are noted and hence the consequential merits of an empirical approach are made evident. The rigorous analysis of good practice should play an important part in research and curriculum development in design and technology, but it is crucial to recognise that such analysis will be influenced by the viewpoint (models held) by the analyst

Design and technology educational research and curriculum development: the emerging international research agenda

The publication of book derived from IDATER conferences (as distinct from Conference Proceedings) is a new venture for IDATER, which has been undertaken in order to further the debate concerning an international research agenda. It is hoped that this publication will both enable those who were not fortunate enough to be at IDATER99 and IDATER2000 to gain something of the Conference outcomes and help to prepare for IDATER2001

The nature of learning and progression in Design and Technology

The National Curriculum (NC) model of design and technological capability is intended to become the institutionalised model. As the first cohort reaches Key Stage 4 GCSE syllabuses will be altered to fall into line and no doubt the reform of A and AS levels will be expected to follow, but how well-founded is the basis for all this reform? This paper seeks to offer the basis for discussion of the well-foundedness of National Curriculum Technology in a number of ways: * by considering the apparent model of design and technological capability that is at its centre * by questioning its fundamental ideology * by discussing its documentation * by reflecting on other models of design and technology. The discussions concerning changes to GCSEs and educational provision for the 16-19 age range are vital in determining future design and technological capability, and it should not be taken for granted that the existing model of NC design and technology will prevail

ARE THERE ELECTRICAL DEVICES THAT CAN MEASURE THE BODY'S ENERGY STATE CHANGE TO AN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT? Part l, The Meridian Stress Assessment (MSA-21J Device

The general field of energy medicine is growing strongly but is still in great need of reliable monitoring instruments to assess the relative energetic state of humans with respect to a health/pathology ratio. Two commercial instruments: Bio-Meridian's MSA-21 and Korotkov's GDV were selected for an in-parallel study of the following question, "Can they meaningfully discriminate the effects of acupuncture treatment on the body's energy state?" In this part 1 paper we discuss the results obtained by Bio-Meridian' MSA-21. the experimental design was to determine if the MSA-21 and the GDV could discern a quantifiable difference between an authentic acupuncture session and a sham acupuncture session for 34 subjects. The single research hypothesis was, "If energy is added to andlor redistributed in the body via true acupuncture needling, as contrasted with sham acupuncture needling, a worthy measurement instrument must (at least) be able to discriminate this energy change contrast in a statistically significant fashion." Indeed, the MSA-21 instrument passed this test in good order and provided much useful adjunct information as well
