    Managements of sleep bruxism in adult : A systematic review

    This systematic review aimed to update the management of sleep bruxism (SB) in adults, as diagnosed using polysomnography (PSG) and/or electromyography (EMG). Management methods covered were oral appliance therapy (OAT) with stabilization splints, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), biofeedback therapy (BFT), and pharmacological therapy. A comprehensive search was conducted on MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science up to October 1st, 2021. Reference list searches and hand searches were also performed by an external organization. Two reviewers for each therapy independently performed article selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment. The reviewers resolved any disagreements concerning the assortment of the articles by discussion. Finally, 11, 3, 14, and 22 articles were selected for each therapy. The results suggested that OAT tended to reduce the number of SB events, although there was no significant difference compared to other types of splints, that the potential benefits of CBT were not well supported, and that BFT, rabeprazole, clonazepam, clonidine, and botulinum toxin type A injection showed significant reductions in specific SB parameters, although several side effects were reported. It can be concluded that more methodologically rigorous randomized large-sample long-term follow-up clinical trials are needed to clarify the efficacy and safety of management for SB

    Polycrystalline {\gamma}-boron: As hard as polycrystalline cubic boron nitride

    The Vickers hardness of polycrystalline {\gamma}-B was measured using a diamond indentation method. The elastic properties of polycrystalline {\gamma}-B (B=213.9 GPa, G=227.2 GPa, and E=503.3 GPa) were determined using ultrasonic measurement at ambient condition. Under the loading force up to 20 N, our test gave an average Vickers hardness in the asymptotic-hardness region of 30.3 GPa. The average fracture toughness was measured as 4.1MPa m1/2. Additionally, We also measured the hardness and elastic properties of polycrystalline {\beta}-B and PcBN for comparison. The hardness and elastic properties for polycrystalline {\gamma}-B was found to be very close to that of PcBN. Our results suggest that the polycrystalline {\gamma}-B could be a superhard polycrystalline material for industrial applications.Comment: 16 page

    Structure and properties of densified silica glass: characterizing the order within disorder

    世界一構造秩序のあるガラスの合成と構造解析に成功 --ガラスの一見無秩序な構造の中に潜む秩序を抽出--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-12-25.The broken symmetry in the atomic-scale ordering of glassy versus crystalline solids leads to a daunting challenge to provide suitable metrics for describing the order within disorder, especially on length scales beyond the nearest neighbor that are characterized by rich structural complexity. Here, we address this challenge for silica, a canonical network-forming glass, by using hot versus cold compression to (i) systematically increase the structural ordering after densification and (ii) prepare two glasses with the same high-density but contrasting structures. The structure was measured by high-energy X-ray and neutron diffraction, and atomistic models were generated that reproduce the experimental results. The vibrational and thermodynamic properties of the glasses were probed by using inelastic neutron scattering and calorimetry, respectively. Traditional measures of amorphous structures show relatively subtle changes upon compacting the glass. The method of persistent homology identifies, however, distinct features in the network topology that change as the initially open structure of the glass is collapsed. The results for the same high-density glasses show that the nature of structural disorder does impact the heat capacity and boson peak in the low-frequency dynamical spectra.
