Selective Coronary Arteriography by Spot Film Roentgenographic Technique : Its Feasibility and Limitation

    Get PDF
Selective coronary arteriography is the method of choice for visualizing the anatomical structures and pathological changes of the coronary artery tree in living subjects. It is helpful particularly to clarify the diagnosis of patients who have angina pectoris, because it gives clinically valuable information that is not available from any other source. The technique of selective catheterization and injection of each coronary artery in turn, combined with cineangiography, was introducted by Sones and Shirey and it is the most widely used method in the United States of America today. However, selective coronary arteriography may be performed by various techniques. The purpose of this paper is to relate our experience with the spot film roentgenographic technique in conjunction with the viceoangiocardiographic method

信州大学博士(医学)・学位論文・平成24年3月31日授与(甲第946号)・丸山 雅史This is a non-final version of an article published in final form in PANCREAS. 42(1):53-59 (2013).Objectives: Type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is histologically characterized by dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltration and marked storiform fibrosis, manifestations associated with pancreatic ducts. Such periductal lymphocyte recruitment is thought to be elicited by dysregulation of mechanisms governing physiological lymphocyte homing. The present study was undertaken to determine whether vascular addressins including peripheral lymph node addressin and mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule 1 (MAdCAM-1) play a role in type 1 AIP histogenesis. Methods: Tissue sections of type 1 AIP and tumor-associated non-AIP chronic pancreatitis, as well as normal pancreas, were subjected to immunohistochemical analysis using vascular addressin-related antibodies. Results: The number of periductal mouse endothelial cell antigen 79-positive high endothelial venule (HEV)-like vessels was increased in type 1 AIP relative to that seen in non-AIP chronic pancreatitis, whereas the number of MAdCAM-1-positive HEV-like vessels did not differ between the 2 conditions. Mouse endothelial cell antigen 79 antigens are expressed on duct-forming epithelial cells not only in pancreas but also in salivary glands, which often harbor extrapancreatic lesions in type 1 AIP. Conclusions: Type 1 AIP can be characterized by periductal induction of MECA-79-positive HEV-like vessels. MECA-79-positive 6-sulfo sialyl Lewis X-related carbohydrate antigens expressed on duct-forming epithelial cells could be associated with type 1 AIP pathogenesis.ArticlePANCREAS. 42(1):53-59 (2013)journal articl

Tumor-specific exon creation of the HELLS/SMARCA6 gene in non-small cell lung cancer

In an attempt to identify tumor suppressor genes on chromosome 10 in non-small cell lung cancers, we isolated 10 types of splicing variants of the HELLS/ SMARCA6 gene transcripts. HELLS/SMARCA6 is a novel member of SNF2 family, which is implicated in cellular function like chromatin remodeling. Variant 1 was an alternatively spliced isoform containing an insertion of a 44-ntd intronic sequence between exons 3 and 4, giving rise to a premature termination of translation. The expression of the variant 1 was detected exclusively in the lung cancer specimens (11 of 43 cases, 26%), but was not detected in corresponding normal tissues. D10S520 marker in the proximity of the HELLS/SMARCA6 gene showed prevalent allelic loss (41%) as compared with flanking markers (25-31%). These results suggest that loss of function of HELLS/SMARCA6 by allelic loss and aberrant proteins by tumor-specific exon creation may result in epigenetic deregulation, leading the lung cells to malignancy or its progression

Association analysis of toll-like receptor 4 polymorphisms in Japanese primary biliary cirrhosis

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is characterized by portal inflammation and immune-mediated destruction of intrahepatic bile ducts that often result in liver failure. Toll-like receptor (TLR) 4 recognizes lipopolysaccharides of Gram-negative bacteria. Infectious agents have been suspected to play a crucial role in PBC pathogenesis since TLR4 expression was found in bile duct epithelial cells and periportal hepatocytes in liver tissues of PBC. To assess the potential contribution of TLR4 SNPs to the development of this disease, we genotyped five SNPs in TLR4 in 261 PBC patients and 359 controls using a TaqMan assay. No significant positive associations with either PBC susceptibility or progression were uncovered. These results indicate that TLR4 polymorphisms do not play a prominent role in the development of PBC in Japanese patients. (C) 2012 American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. A plant-based diet is thought to be better for the prevention and treatment of lifestyle-related diseases. A plant-based extract fermented by lactic acid bacteria and yeast (PELY) was made from various plant materials and was fermented product applying to traditional food-preservation technique, that is, fermentation and sugaring. In this study, the characterization and physiological function of PELY were examined.PELY contained 58.8% carbohydrate, 3.7% protein, and 1.3% lipid. It contained 18 kinds of amino acids and vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, B12, E, K, niacin, pantothenic acid, and folic acid. It also did a lot of dietary fiber and phytochemicals (polyphenol, terpenoid, i.e.).Moreover, PELY had several physiological functions such as antioxidant, antihypertensive, antibacterial, anti-allergy, anti-inflammatory and anti-tyrosinase activities in vitro

ObjectivesWe performed this study to investigate with optical coherence tomography (OCT) the vascular response after sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) implantation between patients with and those without diabetes mellitus (DM).BackgroundThe difference in vascular response after SES implantation between patients with and those without DM has not been fully evaluated with OCT.MethodsOptical coherence tomography was performed to examine 74 nonrestenotic SES implanted in 63 patients (32 with DM and 31 without DM) at 9 months after SES implantation. For struts showing neointimal coverage, the neointimal thickness on the luminal side of each strut section was measured, and neointimal characteristics were classified into high, low, and layered signal pattern.ResultsBaseline patient characteristics and lesion and procedural characteristics data were similar between the 2 groups. In total, 11,422 struts were analyzed. High signal neointima was observed in 90.2 ± 13.9%, low signal neointima in 7.3 ± 10.0%, and layered neointima in 2.7 ± 5.8%/stents. There was higher incidence of low signal neointima (10.5 ± 10.3% vs. 4.5 ± 5.6%, p = 0.003), neointimal thickness was larger (median: 106.8 μm, interquartile range: 79.3 to 130.4 μm vs. median: 83.5 μm, interquartile range: 62.3 to 89.3 μm; p < 0.0001), and neointimal coverage of stent struts was higher (92.1 ± 6.2% vs. 87.2 ± 11.9%; p = 0.03) in DM patients.ConclusionsHigh signal neointimal pattern was predominantly observed, and low or layered signal pattern was observed in some cases. In DM patients, low signal neointima was observed with high frequency. Neointimal coverage and neointimal thickness was also higher in DM patients as compared with non-DM patients
