    Gender Equality and Public Policies

    Get PDF
Gender equality could refer togiving equal opportunity to all individual irrespective of his or her sex. Literally, it implies a society in which both men and women are able to share equally in the distribution of resources, power, rights, and opportunities (Wadesango, 2011). Although the Government, Non-Government Organisations, feminist organizations and mass media have been trying to promote gender equality still gender difference is persisted in everyday experiences in India. This paper reviewed the gender equality, and its policies, strategies, and schemes taken up by the Government of India. The paper is based on secondary data collected through review of studies, reports, documents and various data from regional, national and international level. It critically discussed the evolution of gender discrimination in the society, problems in achieving gender equality and measures through policies taken up the Government. The review indicated that the only possible means to narrow down inequality of gender is the empowerment of women in all aspects of economic, political, education and health and security. It is concluded that there are various emerging policies and strategies of Government to promote gender equality, however, gender bias may continue to practice due to the persistence of cultural attitudes of male dominating society and lack of commitment among the concerned authorities to implement policies into action. Therefore, it is needed to educate and sensitize male members of the society regarding the feeling of togetherness and equality, and the importance of women empowerment

Language and identity have played a significant role in shaping the modern nation-states. Though , in modern days, it is a result of the French Revolution and European Renaissance , the notion of identity and language if not vividly but also did exist in Athenian society. The paper makes an attempt to understand the notion of language and how and who determines a language differentiating from its dialects , and also captures the notion of identity. The paper journeys through with an understanding of the language-identity relation through some fundamentals of socio-linguistic and anthro-linguistic schools of thought. It also highlights a small case study on Meiteilon , the official language of the state of Manipur

ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDIES ON SOME IMPORTANT MEDICINAL PLANTS OF IMPHAL EAST AND WEST DISTRICTS OF MANIPUR, NORTH EAST INDIA

    Get PDF
Abstract Imphal East and West are two densely populated districts of Manipur, inhabited by diverse communities. In order to document information on medicinal plants their uses, a survey was conducted in 2014-2018 in various locations within the two districts. During this study it was observed that the traditional healers use several medicinal plants from adjoining forests. They also grow and sell several such plants in their kitchen garden for daily use, both as food and herbal remedies, for common ailments such as cough, cold, dysentery fever etc. Due to over-harvesting, modernization, urbanization, and predominantly jhum cultivation, the importance of such traditional uses of medicinal plants is gradually declining. There is an urgent need to focus on scientific validation, conservation, recognition of plant-based traditional healing, to resurrect this neglected knowledge. Also, immediate attention is required to conserve particular medicinal plants along with traditional knowledge associated with them. Needless to say, there is an overarching need to record the rich indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants of Imphal East and Imphal West Districts of Manipur, before it is too late

Can illogical thought be possible ?

    Get PDF
The notion of logical thought has been discussed since time known to rational mind but the notion of illogical thought be possible is rarely thought and in this paper, there is an attempt made to understand the notion of illogical thought by asking whether illogical thought be possible or not, and if it is not , why it is not and if it is yes , then how can it be. The paper comprises of two parts i,e. (i)Illogical thought is impossible . Why it is so? – Early Wittgenstein’s reply and (ii) Illogical thought is possible. How can it be? -Criticism to Early Wittgenstein

A Data Warehouse system for Human resource Management in a Distributed Software Development

Abstract: The study proposed a new concept called as „Responsibility Index‟ (RIndex) that can administer all responsibilities of members involved in developing a team in a distributed team. This Index recorded and automatically updated roles changes. This research study uses the concept of a data warehouse system for data management. The objective of this study is to tracking and monitoring the performance of a developer using RIndex. A data warehousing system implemented to store the data require for the management of all the roles require of a project. The usages of this warehouse support the higher management team to manage the team without much technical knowledge because most of the analytical facilities are integrated with this system itself. Several interesting reports are a generatedallocated hour for each task, the status of the percentage of hours utilized so far. From such report, a development team can get some information about the progress of the project per task wise-Analysis, testing, etc. A report shows the group projection of status of the project such as total hours allotted for a task 'Analysis' or 'Design' etc., the percentage of hours allocation as per a task, used hours and its percentage of usages against each task and percentage of the entered projects hours. It represents almost all data appears in WBS and Gantt chart of a project. Based on the data available, the project team or manager can plan further actions. Keywords: Data Warehouse system, responsibility index, Distributed Software Development, resource management(Article History: Received 10 September 2016 and accepted 26 December 2016

    Philosophising consciousness from string theory

    Get PDF
The notion of consciousness has been studied in many ways out of which, there could be a scientific approach of studying it using string theory which enjoys the mathematical coherence. The paper aims to study consciousness using string theory in which the role of graviton will be discussed. The notion of parallel universes given by string theory would be tackled to understand consciousness and make an attempt to clarify the notion of other world or universe and parallel universes, the problems of time travel, soul and death in the universe or universes of strings which gets twisted and compactified

Genomic Heterogeneity of the Naga and Kuki Tribal Populations of Manipur, North-East India

    Get PDF
Manipur is one of the North-Eastern states of India and it lies on the ancient silk route and serves as a meeting point between the Southeast Asia and South Asia. The origin and migration histories of Naga and Kuki tribal populations have not been clearly understood. Moreover, Kukis have been traced to two different ancestries, which have created confusion among the people. The present study examined genomic affinities and differentiation of the Naga and Kuki tribal populations of Manipur, Northeast India. Twenty autosomal markers (Eight Alu InDels, and twelve Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms) were analysed. Findings showed genetic differences between Naga and Kuki tribal populations with respect to the allele distribution pattern which was substantiated by genetic differentiation (GST 5.2%) and molecular variance (AMOVA) where the highest percentage of among group variances was observed between Naga and Kuki tribal groups (7.09%). However, genetic similarity with respect to allele distribution pattern in most of the loci were seen among their respective groups (Rongmei and Inpui; Thadou and Vaiphei). Rongmei and Inpui tribal populations (Naga group) belong to Naga-Bodo linguistic group and Thadou and Vaipei (Kuki group) belong to Northern Kuki-Chin linguistic group suggesting that genetic similarities may not be independent of linguistic affinities. Despite differential genetic affinities, both Naga and Kuki tribal populations in Manipur show proximity with Southeast Asian populations and Northeast Indian populations than with other Indian populations and global populations taken for comparison
