    When do L-fuzzy ideals of a ring generate a distributive lattice?

    The notion of L-fuzzy extended ideals is introduced in a Boolean ring, and their essential properties are investigated. We also build the relation between an L-fuzzy ideal and the class of its L-fuzzy extended ideals. By defining an operator “⇝” between two arbitrary L-fuzzy ideals in terms of L-fuzzy extended ideals, the result that “the family of all L-fuzzy ideals in a Boolean ring is a complete Heyting algebra” is immediately obtained. Furthermore, the lattice structures of L-fuzzy extended ideals of an L-fuzzy ideal, L-fuzzy extended ideals relative to an L-fuzzy subset, L-fuzzy stable ideals relative to an L-fuzzy subset and their connections are studied in this paper

    Age-related hearing loss and its potential drug candidates: a systematic review

    Abstract Background Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is one of the main illnesses afflicting the aged population and has a significant negative impact on society, economy, and health. However, there is presently no appropriate therapeutic treatment of ARHL due to the absence of comprehensive trials. Objectives The goal of this review is to systematically evaluate and analyze recent statistics on the pathologic classifications, risk factors, treatment strategies, and drug candidates of ARHL, including that from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), to provide potential new approaches for preventing and treating ARHL. Methods Literature related to ARHL was conducted in databases such as PubMed, WOS, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang from the establishment of the database to Jan, 2023. The pathology, causal factor, pathophysiological mechanism, treatment strategy, and the drug candidate of ARHL were extracted and pooled for synthesis. Results Many hypotheses about the etiology of ARHL are based on genetic and environmental elements. Most of the current research on the pathology of ARHL focuses on oxidative damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, cochlear blood flow, ion homeostasis, etc. In TCM, herbs belonging to the kidney, lung, and liver meridians exhibit good hearing protection. Seven herbs belonging to the kidney meridian, 9 belonging to the lung meridian, and 4 belonging to the liver meridian were ultimately retrieved in this review, such as Polygonum multiflorum Thunb., Panax ginseng C.A. Mey, and Pueraria lobata (Willd.) Ohwi. Their active compounds, 2,3,4',5-Tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-D-glucoside, ginsenoside Rb1, and puerarin, may act as the molecular substance for their anti-ARHL efficacy, and show anti-oxidative, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, or mitochondrial protective effects. Conclusion Anti-oxidants, modulators of mitochondrial function, anti-inflammation agents, vasodilators, K+ channel openers, Ca2+ channel blockers, JNK inhibitors, and nerve growth factors/neurotrophic factors all contribute to hearing protection, and herbs are an important source of potential anti-ARHL drugs

    A Novel and Extensible Remote Sensing Collaboration Platform: Architecture Design and Prototype Implementation

    Geospatial data, especially remote sensing (RS) data, are of significant importance for public services and production activities. Expertise is critical in processing raw data, generating geospatial information, and acquiring domain knowledge and other remote sensing applications. However, existing geospatial service platforms are more oriented towards the professional users in the implementation process and final application. Building appropriate geographic applications for non-professionals remains a challenge. In this study, a geospatial data service architecture is designed that links desktop geographic information system (GIS) software and cloud-based platforms to construct an efficient user collaboration platform. Based on the scalability of the platform, four web apps with different themes are developed. Data in the fields of ecology, oceanography, and geology are uploaded to the platform by the users. In this pilot phase, the gap between non-specialized users and experts is successfully bridged, demonstrating the platform’s powerful interactivity and visualization. The paper finally evaluates the capability of building spatial data infrastructures (SDI) based on GeoNode and discusses the current limitations. The support for three-dimensional data, the improvement of metadata creation and management, and the fostering of an open geo-community are the next steps

    Analysis on Failure of an Oil and Gas Gathering Pipeline in Tahe Oilfield

    In order to ensure the safe operation and production of oilfield gathering pipelines and to provide corrosion protection in advance,a failed oil and gas gathering pipeline in Tahe Oilfield was analyzed.The macro morphology observation of the corrosion perforation of such pipeline,the material composition analysis by direct reading spectrometer,the micro morphology observation of the sample corrosion by scanning electron microscope,the corrosion products analysis by X-ray diffractometer and energy disperse spectrometer,and the electrochemical testing were carried out to determine the cause of the perforation of the oil and gas gathering pipeline.Results showed that the highly mineralized corrosion medium,the crude oil containing a lot of CO2 and H2S,and the injected water poured into the stratum led to an CO2 corrosion inside the pipe wall.There were a lot of soluble calcium salts in the medium,and the chemical reaction between calcium salts and CO2 resulted in calcium carbonate scaling.The scaling and corrosion products were deposited on the uphill section of the pipeline,which led to serious corrosion of the metal matrix under scaling.The high-chloride ion accelerated the corrosion,and finally caused the perforation failure at the bottom of the pipeline

    Automated Characterization of Yardangs Using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks

    The morphological characteristics of yardangs are the direct evidence that reveals the wind and fluvial erosion for lacustrine sediments in arid areas. These features can be critical indicators in reconstructing local wind directions and environment conditions. Thus, the fast and accurate extraction of yardangs is key to studying their regional distribution and evolution process. However, the existing automated methods to characterize yardangs are of limited generalization that may only be feasible for specific types of yardangs in certain areas. Deep learning methods, which are superior in representation learning, provide potential solutions for mapping yardangs with complex and variable features. In this study, we apply Mask region-based convolutional neural networks (Mask R-CNN) to automatically delineate and classify yardangs using very high spatial resolution images from Google Earth. The yardang field in the Qaidam Basin, northwestern China is selected to conduct the experiments and the method yields mean average precisions of 0.869 and 0.671 for intersection of union (IoU) thresholds of 0.5 and 0.75, respectively. The manual validation results on images of additional study sites show an overall detection accuracy of 74%, while more than 90% of the detected yardangs can be correctly classified and delineated. We then conclude that Mask R-CNN is a robust model to characterize multi-scale yardangs of various types and allows for the research of the morphological and evolutionary aspects of aeolian landform

    Adverse birth outcomes and childhood overweight at age of 3–8 years in a prospective cohort study in Tianjin, China

    Objectives To explore associations between adverse birth outcomes and childhood overweight at 3–8 years of age.Design A prospective cohort study.Setting Six central urban districts of Tianjin, China.Participants 1681 woman–child pairs.Methods 1681 woman–child pairs were followed up for 8 years in Tianjin, China. Demographic and clinical information including birth outcomes was collected longitudinally, commencing from first antenatal care visit till postpartum period. Offspring height and weight were measured at 3–8 years of age. High and low weight/length ratios (WLR) at birth were, respectively, defined as ≥90th and ≤10th gestational week and sex-specific percentiles. Overweight for children at 3–5 and 6–8 years of age were, respectively, defined as body mass index (BMI)-for-age and -sex above the 2 z-score and 1 z-score curves of the WHO’s child growth standards. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to obtain ORs and 95% CI with a stepwise backward selection method to select independent predictors.Primary outcomes measures Childhood overweight.Results Of 1681 children, 10.7% (n=179) and 27.8% (n=468) developed overweight at 3–5 and 6–8 years of age, respectively. Large for gestational age (LGA) was associated with increased risk of overweight at 3–5 years of age (aOR: 1.86, 95% CI: 1.27 to 2.72) while high WLR at birth was associated with increased risk of overweight at 6–8 years of age (1.82, 1.41 to 2.34). Low WLR at birth was associated with decreased risk of overweight at 6–8 years of age (0.52, 0.30 to 0.90).Conclusions LGA and high WLR at birth predicted childhood overweight at 3–5 and 6–8 years of age, respectively. Low WLR at birth was associated with decreased risk of childhood overweight at 6–8 years of age

    Serum Sulfur-Containing Amino Acids and Risk of Maternal Gestational Diabetes and Adverse Growth Patterns in Offspring

    Background: To estimate associations of sulfur-containing amino acids (SAAs) in the early trimester of pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and estimate associations of maternal SAAs with adverse growth patterns in offspring. Methods: We established a 1:1 matched case-control study (n = 486) from our cohort of pregnant women, and 401 children were followed up at ages 1 to 8 years. We conducted binary conditional logistic regression to estimate the risk associations of serum SAAs with GDM. Multinomial logistic regression was implemented to explore associations of maternal SAAs with adverse growth patterns in the offspring. Results: High serum methionine and cystine were independently associated with increased GDM risk (OR: 1.92, 95%CI: 1.18–3.13 and 2.69, 1.59–4.53). Conversely, a low level of serum taurine was independently associated with increased GDM risk (2.61, 1.64–4.16). Maternal high cystine and low taurine were also associated with an increased risk of persistent obesity growth pattern (POGP) in offspring (OR: 2.79, 95%CI: 1.09–7.17 and 3.92, 1.11–13.89) and the effect was largely independent of GDM. Conclusions: High serum methionine, cystine and low serum taurine in the early trimester of pregnancy were associated with a greatly increased risk of GDM. Maternal high cystine and low taurine were associated with elevated risk of offspring POGP, largely independent of GDM

    Cyclopeptide RA-V Inhibits Organ Enlargement and Tumorigenesis Induced by YAP Activation

    The Hippo pathway restricts organ size during development and its inactivation plays a crucial role in cancer. Yes-associated protein (YAP) and its paralog transcriptional coactivator with PSD-95/Dlg/ZO-1 (PDZ)-binding motif (TAZ) are transcription co-activators and effectors of the Hippo pathway mediating aberrant enlargement of organs and tumor growth upon Hippo pathway inactivation. It has been demonstrated that genetic inactivation of YAP could be an effective approach to inhibit tumorigenesis. In order to identify pharmacological inhibitors of YAP, we screened a library of 52,683 compounds using a YAP-specific reporter assay. In this screen we identified cyclopeptide RA-V (deoxybouvardin) as a specific inhibitor of YAP and TAZ but not other reporters. Unexpectedly, later experiments demonstrated that RA-V represses the protein but not mRNA levels of YAP target genes. Nevertheless, RA-V strongly blocks liver enlargement induced by Mst1/2 knockout. Furthermore, RA-V not only inhibits liver tumorigenesis induced by YAP activation, but also induces regression of established tumors. We found that RA-V inhibits dedifferentiation and proliferation, while inducing apoptosis of hepatocytes. Furthermore, RA-V also induces apoptosis and inhibits proliferation of macrophages in the microenvironment, which are essential for YAP-induced tumorigenesis. RA-V is thus a drug candidate for cancers involving YAP/TAZ activation
