We develop further the theory of such vertex algebras by introducing formal calculus techniques and investigating the notion of polylocal fields.     INCMap: A Journey towards ontology-based data integration

    Ontology-based data integration (OBDI) allows users to federate over heterogeneous data sources using a semantic rich conceptual data model. An important challenge in ODBI is the curation of mappings between the data sources and the global ontology. In the last years, we have built IncMap, a system to semi-automatically create mappings between relational data sources and a global ontology. IncMap has since been put into practice, both for academic and in industrial applications. Based on the experience of the last years, we have extended the original version of IncMap in several dimensions to enhance the mapping quality: (1) IncMap can detect and leverage semantic-rich patterns in the relational data sources such as inheritance for the mapping creation. (2) IncMap is able to leverage reasoning rules in the ontology to overcome structural differences from the relational data sources. (3) IncMap now includes a fully automatic mode that is often necessary to bootstrap mappings for a new data source. Our experimental evaluation shows that the new version of IncMap outperforms its previous version as well as other state-of-the-art systems

    Self-consistent tilted-axis-cranking study of triaxial strongly deformed bands in 158^{158}Er at ultrahigh spin

    Stimulated by recent experimental discoveries, triaxial strongly deformed (TSD) states in 158^{158}Er at ultrahigh spins have been studied by means of the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model and the tilted-axis-cranking method. Restricting the rotational axis to one of the principal axes -- as done in previous cranking calculations -- two well-defined TSD minima in the total Routhian surface are found for a given configuration: one with positive and another with negative triaxial deformation γ\gamma. By allowing the rotational axis to change direction, the higher-energy minimum is shown to be a saddle point. This resolves the long-standing question of the physical interpretation of the two triaxial minima at a very similar quadrupole shape obtained in the principal axis cranking approach. Several TSD configurations have been predicted, including a highly deformed band expected to cross lesser elongated TSD bands at the highest spins. Its transitional quadrupole moment Qt10.5Q_t \approx 10.5\,eb is close to the measured value of \sim11\,eb; hence, it is a candidate for the structure observed in experiment.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    To Search or not to Search: Where is the Mobile Search Market Heading? Results from a Survey with Experts

    Web search providers have a highly successful business model in place, which has rendered them amongst the most profitable companies on the internet. The mobile sector is expanding rapidly with the number of worldwide subscribers estimated to reach 5 billions by 2012 and with two-digit growth rates in the number of mobile internet connections. Consequently, many observers consider mobile search as the 'next big market'. However, there is little evidence so far to support such high expectations. In addition, we spot a general lack of studies based on large public data sets, which employ reproducible methods to forecast the evolution of trends in the sector. Surprisingly, whereas some market research reports dedicated solely to mobile search were published a few years ago, just when mobile search is moving to become a mainstream application, there appear to be no comprehensive recent studies about where the mobile search market is going. In this paper we report and analyse the collective opinions of a group of experts on the prospects of mobile search. The research we present is based on a two-round Delphi exercise. The first round of such exercise was conducted online in order to reach a wide community of experts and to cover a broad range of expertise. The second round was carried out face-to-face with a selection of respondents to discuss in depth the results of the online questionnaire. To get the prospective dimension into the Delphi discussion, we proposed seven distinct scenarios. This set a common ground for participants to engage into a forwardlooking debate and to focus their attention onto prospective drivers and barriers rather than solely onto today's landscape. Our Delphi study confirms the high expectations and bright future experts see for the mobile search market, but with noteworthy nuances. We found that the experts' optimism is rooted in the conviction that all critical technological components are already available and that only some system integration is missing. Our paper argues that there is no adequate market pull response to such technology push. Undeniably some (trial) applications are under way, but their business models are still insufficiently defined and companies are experimenting with different business ideas. Another essential component for adoption is trust in the service provider. The liability and responsibility of the different players (telecom operators, search engine providers, device manufacturers, etc) needs to be scrutinized. Our study also presents the views of experts on how privacy and personal data usage are influencing the evolution of mobile search. The paper concludes with some suggestions for fostering the evolution of the mobile search domain by increasing the interoperability of services, assuring the openness and mash-ups of content and services, developing personal identity data management systems to improve user acceptance and enhance trust and by supporting research, both on the technologies that are required to enable more advanced used of mobile search applications, and supporting living labs a experimental platform to test new application and innovative business models

    Bird community patterns in sub–Mediterranean pastures: the effects of shrub cover and grazing intensity

    Shrubs are widely considered a threat to grassland biodiversity. We investigated the effects of shrub cover and grazing intensity on bird communities in sub–Mediterranean pastures in Bulgaria. The point–count method was used on 80 plots in open (&lt; 10% shrub cover) and shrubby (approx. 20% cover) pastures under either intensive or extensive management (grazing intensity) from 2008 to 2009. We recorded a total of 1,956 observations of birds from 53 species. Main environmental gradients accounting for the bird community pattern were related to vegetation succession and land productivity. Bird species richness was higher in shrubby pastures than in open sites, while no effect was found in respect to total bird abundance. Bird species diversity (i.e. H’ index) was highest in extensive shrubby pastures. Shrubland specialists were positively affected by shrub cover and extensive management of pastures while grassland and woodland specialists showed no significant response to these factors. We conclude that a small proportion of shrubs within pastures may be beneficial for farmland birds and sustainable management of pastures could be achieved by greater flexibility of national agri–environmental schemes. Investigamos los efectos de la cubierta arbustiva y la intensidad del pastoreo sobre las comunidades de aves en los pastos submediterráneos de Bulgaria. Se utilizó el método de estaciones de escucha en 80 puntos de registro en pastos abiertos (cubierta arbustiva < 10%) y arbustivos (aproximadamente un 20% de la superficie cubierta), con una gestión de pastoreo tanto intensiva como extensiva desde 2008 a 2009. Registramos un total de 1.956 observaciones de aves pertenecientes a 53 especies distintas. Los gradientes ambientales principales responsables de los patrones de las comunidades de aves se relacionaron con la sucesión de la vegetación y la productividad de la tierra. La riqueza de especies de aves era mayor en los pastos arbustivos que en los lugares abiertos, aunque no se observó efecto alguno con respecto a la abundancia total de aves. La mayor diversidad de especies de aves (índice H’) se daba en los pastos arbustivos con gestión extensiva. Los especialistas en zonas arbustivas se veían afectados positivamente por la cubierta arbustiva y la gestión extensiva de los pastos, mientras que los especialistas de praderas y bosques no presentaron ninguna respuesta positiva a dichos factores. Nuestra conclusión es que una pequeña proporción de arbustos dentro de los pastos puede ser beneficiosa para las aves de tierras de labrantío, y la gestión sostenible de los pastos podría alcanzarse mediante una mayor flexibilidad de los esquemas agroambientales nacionales.
