One of the key issues within the area of issues related to contemporary special education is inclusive education. The purpose of the presented article is to analyse the key entities participating in the teaching and upbringing of pupils in the public educational system – the roles, tasks, professional qualifications, predispositions and personality traits of teachers of pupils with special educational needs. The article also presents results of research carried out by the author among teachers at public schools in the Silesian Voivodeship

A young person’s perception of his past, present, and future life is shaped during his adolescence. The potential/prospective self of an adolescent includes his ideas and plans concerning his future life and, therefore, constitutes an important source of his motivation for activity and development. This paper presents the results of its author’s own research on the ways in which adolescents with visual disability receiving special education in the Silesian Voivodeship perceive their future lives. The theoretical part of the paper contains an analysis of the concept of self-perception and related concepts. Special attention is paid to defining different kinds of selfperception, analysing their functions and indicating factors that determine their development during adolescence. An overview of selected pieces of research on the self-image of blind and visually impaired people allowed a description of the influence of self-perception on social and personal functioning of adolescents with visual disability

The purpose of this article is to discuss the issue of social skills of pupils with special educational needs. Special attention is paid to the role played by social skills in social functioning of the pupils and the significance of supporting the process of development of social skills. The article also contains a survey of literature pertaining to the subject of defining social skills, describing their components, and characterizing determinants and limits of their development in pupils with special educational needs. In addition, the article compares traditional and contemporary methods in special education and discusses the role in special education that should be played by the process of developing social skills in pupils with disability

The key purpose of the dissertation is to review and analyse, both theoretically and empirically, some aspects of social functioning of visually impaired adolescents. The special education of this group of people has very often been the subject of criticism for its neglect of certain critical social values. The first part of the dissertation covers the ideological context of research; definitions of visual impairment and the whole range of its classification, types, etiology and effects on social functioning; it also examines phenomena such as social development, socialisation, social adaptation, and social skills and roles; and it places the above-named in a broader perspective by describing family, school and peer group environments and an individual’s self-esteem. The second part of the dissertation focuses on the main topic areas of research, both quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches, and the instruments employed to collect data. The concluding part of the dissertation takes the form of psychosocial and educational interpretations of the research results. In its last chapters the dissertation presents the author’s programme for using educational influence to develop social skills among adolescents in general and the visually impaired in particular. At the very end of the dissertation the author analyses the prominent function of education, including special education, in the course of an individual’s social development which some have considered to have been neglected in certain educational models and society at large

The literature of the subject and the research conducted by the author prove that a ADHD child may have problems with adapting to a peer group and all the same may have learning difficulties. The article contains the detailed description of the conducted research and the indications concerning working out the suitable strategies for work with a child and the rest of a class team in order to improve social behaviour of a schoolchild with ADHD and a general social condition in a school class

The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate morphological characteristics of the assembles of gold and platinum nanoparticles (nano-Au and nano-Pt respectively), with Salmonella Enteritidis (Gram-negative) and Listeria monocytogenes (Gram-positive), to reveal possibilities of constructing bacteria-nanoparticle vehicles. Methods: Hydrocolloids of nano-Au or nano-Pt were added to two bacteria suspensions in the following order: nano-Au + Salmonella Enteritidis; nano-Au + Listeria monocytogenes; nano-Pt + Salmonella Enteritidis; nano-Pt + Listeria monocytogenes. Samples were inspected by transmission electron microscope. Results: Visualization of morphological interaction between nano-Au and Salmonella Enteritidis and Listeria monocytogenes, showed that nano-Au were aggregated within flagella or biofilm network and did not penetrate the bacterial cell. The analysis of morphological effects of interaction of nano-Pt with bacteria revealed that nano-Pt entered cells of Listeria monocytogenes and were removed from the cells. In the case of Salmonella Enteritidis, nano-Pt were seen inside bacteria cells, probably bound to DNA and partly left bacterial cells. After washing and centrifugation, some of the nano-Pt-DNA complexes were observed within Salmonella Enteritidis. Conclusion: The results indicate that the bacteria could be used as a vehicle to deliver nano-Pt to specific points in the body. Keywords: morphology, nanoparticles, gold, platinum, bacteri

Nanoparticles of copper stimulate angiogenesis at systemic and molecular level

Copper is a key element affecting blood vessel growth and muscle development. However, the ions released from Cu salts are toxic. Given their specific physicochemical properties, nanoparticles of Cu (NanoCu) may have different bioactivity and affect the development of blood vessel and muscles in a different manner than Cu salts. The objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of NanoCu on embryo development and angiogenesis at the systemic and molecular level, in experiments using a chick embryo model. Fertilized chicken eggs were divided into a control group, and groups injected with a placebo, CuSO4 or NanoCu. Embryo development at the whole body level and molecular indices using an embryo chorioallantoic membrane model were measured during embryogenesis. The present study indicated for the first time that NanoCu have pro-angiogenic properties at the systemic level, to a greater degree than CuSO4 salt. The properties of NanoCu were confirmed at the molecular level, demonstrating significant effects on mRNA concentration and on mRNA gene expression of all pro-angiogenic and pro-proliferative genes measured herein
