Nesta fala partimos da premissa de que o Design é uma linguagem. Sendo assim, nossos estudos se pautam na obra de Júlio Plaza e, especialmente, na Semiótica de Charles Sanders Peirce (18391914). A esse aporte teórico soma-se a obra de Lucia Santaella, sobretudo sua discussão sobre linguagens. Então, pudemos compreender que o Design pode ser considerado como uma linguagem híbrida, composta eminentemente por signos sonoros, visuais e verbais

Forecasting para uma rede social: análise de tendências em 2004 e hoje

Forecasting, the study of possible future through trend research and analysis, may be applied to design processes in order to guide project decisions. This work examines the use of trend analysis in one case study: youMe, a social networking app for mobile devices, developed in 2004. Design forecasting was an important part of this project, with the research of sociocultural and technological trends. Here, we describe trends identifi ed then, and compare them with the current reality, in order to observe similarities and differences between the then imagined future and the actual situation today and in the recent past, especially when it comes to online behavior and the use of mobile devices.Keywords: design, trends, Forecasting, internet, social networks, mobile devices.Forecasting, o estudo de possíveis futuros a partir de pesquisa e análise de tendências, pode ser aplicado a processos de design de modo a orientar decisões projetuais. Memórias traduzidas em Design Gráfico: experiência pedagógica interdisciplinar

A partir de premissas teóricas acerca do Ensino em Design na contemporaneidade, coloca-se em cena vivências e experiências de prática docente interdisciplinar. A concretude ocorreu entre Fotografia e Oficina Gráfica, disciplinas do Curso de Design no interior do Estado de São Paulo. Optou-se pela temática pautada na memória familiar e pessoal dos alunos como referência para o desenvolvimento projetual com ênfase na importância de referências imagéticas e visuais. Esta proposta didático-pedagógica, e a integração docente, proporcionaram desenvolvimento de processos e produção diversificada, tanto em termos técnicos quanto conceituais. Ao final do semestre foi possível constatar desdobramentos em Ensino e Pesquisa em Design

Type Ia Supernova Explosion Models

Because calibrated light curves of Type Ia supernovae have become a major tool to determine the local expansion rate of the Universe and also its geometrical structure, considerable attention has been given to models of these events over the past couple of years. There are good reasons to believe that perhaps most Type Ia supernovae are the explosions of white dwarfs that have approached the Chandrasekhar mass, M_ch ~ 1.39 M_sun, and are disrupted by thermonuclear fusion of carbon and oxygen. However, the mechanism whereby such accreting carbon-oxygen white dwarfs explode continues to be uncertain. Recent progress in modeling Type Ia supernovae as well as several of the still open questions are addressed in this review. Although the main emphasis will be on studies of the explosion mechanism itself and on the related physical processes, including the physics of turbulent nuclear combustion in degenerate stars, we also discuss observational constraints.Comment: 38 pages, 4 figures, Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, in pres

O artigo ora proposto visa discorrer sobre o fenômeno marca, seus meios de atuação social da modernidade à contemporaneidade. Procuraremos verificar como esse complexo sistema comunicacional relaciona- se com demais veículos de transmissão do discurso identificador da identidade corporativa. Para tanto utilizaremos como instrumentação teórica a semiótica de Pierce mais especificamente uma de suas subdivisões: a gramática especulativa e sua classe de signos.&nbsp

Representative democracy is in crisis. One remedy is to foster citizen participation beyond elections. This has led to the development of democratic innovations (DIs) such as participatory budgeting and citizens’ assemblies, through which lay citizens can discuss political problems, and make meaningful contributions. DIs' critics argue that they fail to truly empower citizens; that they impede democratic representation and efficient government. Advocates assert that DIs make political systems more inclusive and democratic. Do these institutions matter for policy-making? Do they affect the broader public? What do political leaders do with their recommendations? How can we scrutinise DIs’ impacts? Do they truly transform representation? This book brings together scholars from a range of disciplines to offer innovative ideas to develop research, improve our knowledge of the impacts of democratic innovations, and help us respond more effectively to contemporary democratic challenges
