The evaluation of the influence of simultaneous traffic noise and vibrations on the acoustic conditions in residential buildings

Zamieszczono wyniki prac zrealizowanych w ramach rozprawy doktorskiej autora. Przedstawiono opracowaną metodę pomiarowo-obliczeniową, na podstawie której można określić przyrost poziomu ciśnienia akustycznego w zamkniętym pomieszczeniu, spowodowanym występowaniem drgań na przegrodach budowlanych ograniczających badane pomieszczenie. Zostały zamieszczone wyniki pomiarów, a także badań ankietowych wykonanych w budynkach szczególnie narażonych na jednoczesne występowanie hałasu i drgań spowodowanych ruchem komunikacyjnym o charakterze ciężkiego ruchu kołowego. Zaprezentowano również propozycję kryterium oceny percepcji człowieka na tego rodzaju zjawisko wibroakustyczne.The paper presents the results of work conducted in the framework of the author's doctor's thesis. The paper presents the developed measurement-calculation method, on the basis of which it is possible to determine the increase in the level of acoustic presssure in closed premises caused by vibrations on building partitions confining the examined premises. The results of measurements, as well as the questionnaire studies conducted in buildings particularly exposed to simultaneous occurrence of noise and vibrations caused by heavy traffic were presented. A proposition for a criterion for evaluating man's perception of a vibro-acoustic phenomenon of this type was also given

The new measurement stands in acredited acoustic laboratory of ITB Group of Research Laboratories

Przedstawiono nowe stanowiska pomiarowe wchodzące w skład akredytowanego Laboratorium Akustycznego ZLB ITB. W szczególności opisano stanowisko do pomiaru izolacyjności wzdłużnej do badania sufitów podwieszonych oraz podłóg podniesionych. Zaprezentowano wybrane fragmenty procedur pomiarowych stosowanych na ww. stanowiskach pomiarowych oraz wyniki badań testujących.New and modernized measurement stands to be part of acredited Acoustic Laboratory of Group of Research Laboratories of ITB were presented. In particular the measurement stand for estimation room to room insulation of suspended ceilings and access floors were described. We have presented of choosen parts of the measurement procedures used on mentioned above measurement stands and the results of carried out survey tests

Influence of heavy traffic on vibroacoustic climate in residential buildings

Scharakteryzowano zjawisko wibroakustyczne, jakim jest przejazd pojazdu ciężkiego w pobliżu budynku. Opisano sposób oceny tego zjawiska rozdzielnie (drgania i hałas) według ogólnie przyjętych kryteriów normowych. Zaproponowano kompleksowy sposób oceny (pomiaru) drgań i hałasu, przyjmując, że drgania wywołane ciężkim ruchem kotowym są przyczyną zwiększenia poziomu ciśnienia akustycznego w budynkach mieszkalnych na skutek zjawiska promieniowania energii akustycznej przez przegrody budowlane otaczające pomieszczenia mieszkalne, pobudzone do drgań przez przejeżdzające pojazdy (zwłaszcza ciężkie). Podano również metody ochrony budynków mieszkalnych przed drganiami i hałasem pochodzącymi od ruchu komunikacyjnego.The vibroacoustic phenomenon of passing heavy vehicle near the building is characterised. Estimation of this phenomenon according to existing Polish Standards for measuring noise and vibration as a separate phenomenons is described. The complex measurement-calculation method, assuming that vibrations developed by heavy traffic are the reason of increase in level of sound pressure is presented. The methods of buildings protection against noise and vibrations derived from traffic are also described

New measurement site for estimating air flow resistance of porous materials used for acoustic insulations and adaptations

Przedstawiono motywy wybudownia stanowiska do określania oporności przepływu powietrza przez materiały porowate służące do wykonywania izolacji i adaptacji akustycznych. Opisano poszczególne etapy prowadzące do powstawania ww. stanowiska pomiarowego. Zaprezentowano pomiary testujące nowe stanowisko pomiarowe, procedurę pomiarową oraz wyniki badań powtarzalności i odtwarzalności wyników uzyskiwanych na nowym stanowisku pomiarowym.The works for constructing the site for estimating airflow resistance of porous materials used for making acoustical applications are presented. MYC-family protein overexpression and prominent nucleolar formation represent prognostic indicators and potential therapeutic targets for aggressive high-MKI neuroblastomas: a report from the children’s oncology group

Neuroblastomas with a high mitosis-karyorrhexis index (High-MKI) are often associated with MYCN amplification, MYCN protein overexpression and adverse clinical outcome. However, the prognostic effect of MYC-family protein expression on these neuroblastomas is less understood, especially when MYCN is not amplified. To address this, MYCN and MYC protein expression in High-MKI cases (120 MYCN amplified and 121 non-MYCN amplified) was examined by immunohistochemistry. The majority (101) of MYCN-amplified High-MKI tumors were MYCN(+), leaving one MYC(+), 2 both(+), and 16 both(−)/(+/−), whereas non-MYCN-amplified cases appeared heterogeneous, including 7 MYCN(+), 36 MYC(+), 3 both(+), and 75 both(−)/(+/−) tumors. These MYC-family proteins(+), or MYC-family driven tumors, were most likely to have prominent nucleolar (PN) formation (indicative of augmented rRNA synthesis). High-MKI neuroblastoma patients showed a poor survival irrespective of MYCN amplification. However, patients with MYC-family driven High-MKI neuroblastomas had significantly lower survival than those with non-MYC-family driven tumors. MYCN(+), MYC-family protein(+), PN(+), and clinical stage independently predicted poor survival. Specific inhibition of hyperactive rRNA synthesis and protein translation was shown to be an effective way to suppress MYC/MYCN protein expression and neuroblastoma growth. Together, MYC-family protein overexpression and PN formation should be included in new neuroblastoma risk stratification and considered for potential therapeutic targets

Inhibitors of ribosome biogenesis repress the growth of MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma

Abnormal increases in nucleolar size and number caused by dysregulation of ribosome biogenesis has emerged as a hallmark in the majority of spontaneous cancers. The observed ribosome hyperactivity can be directly induced by the MYC transcription factors controlling the expression of RNA and protein components of the ribosome. Neuroblastoma, a highly malignant childhood tumor of the sympathetic nervous system, is frequently characterized by MYCN gene amplification and high expression of MYCN and c-MYC signature genes. Here, we show a strong correlation between high-risk disease, MYCN expression, poor survival, and ribosome biogenesis in neuroblastoma patients. Treatment of neuroblastoma cells with quarfloxin or CX-5461, two small molecule inhibitors of RNA polymerase I, suppressed MycN expression, induced DNA damage, and activated p53 followed by cell cycle arrest or apoptosis. CX-5461 repressed the growth of established MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma xenograft tumors in nude mice. These findings suggest that inhibition of ribosome biogenesis represent new therapeutic opportunities for children with high-risk neuroblastomas expressing high levels of Myc
