Decoding of Interleaved Reed-Solomon Codes Using Improved Power Decoding

    Get PDF
We propose a new partial decoding algorithm for mm-interleaved Reed--Solomon (IRS) codes that can decode, with high probability, a random error of relative weight 1−Rmm+11-R^{\frac{m}{m+1}} at all code rates RR, in time polynomial in the code length nn. For m>2m>2, this is an asymptotic improvement over the previous state-of-the-art for all rates, and the first improvement for R>1/3R>1/3 in the last 2020 years. The method combines collaborative decoding of IRS codes with power decoding up to the Johnson radius.Comment: 5 pages, accepted at IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory 201

Further Generalisations of Twisted Gabidulin Codes

We present a new family of maximum rank distance (MRD) codes. The new class contains codes that are neither equivalent to a generalised Gabidulin nor to a twisted Gabidulin code, the only two known general constructions of linear MRD codes.Comment: 10 pages, accepted at the International Workshop on Coding and Cryptography (WCC) 201

    Twisted Reed-Solomon Codes

We present a new general construction of MDS codes over a finite field Fq\mathbb{F}_q. We describe two explicit subclasses which contain new MDS codes of length at least q/2q/2 for all values of q≥11q \ge 11. Moreover, we show that most of the new codes are not equivalent to a Reed-Solomon code.Comment: 5 pages, accepted at IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory 201

Improved Power Decoding of One-Point Hermitian Codes

    Get PDF
We propose a new partial decoding algorithm for one-point Hermitian codes that can decode up to the same number of errors as the Guruswami--Sudan decoder. Simulations suggest that it has a similar failure probability as the latter one. The algorithm is based on a recent generalization of the power decoding algorithm for Reed--Solomon codes and does not require an expensive root-finding step. In addition, it promises improvements for decoding interleaved Hermitian codes.Comment: 9 pages, submitted to the International Workshop on Coding and Cryptography (WCC) 201

Comment on Reply to Comment of Finger et al. (2013) on: 'Evidence for an Early-Middle Miocene age of the Navidad Formation (central Chile): Paleontological, paleoclimatic and tectonic implications' of Gutiérrez et al. (2013, Andean Geology 40 (1): 66-78)

Indexación: Web of Science; ScieloIn their answer to our Comment (Finger et al., 2013), Le Roux et al. (2013) misunderstand several of our remarks and present what we view as f lawed arguments, principally their case for a shallow-marine environment for part of the Navidad Formation. We do not wish to see this exchange evolve into an endless discussion, but we feel obligated to clarify some points. We think this is necessary because of history and importance of the Navidad Formation as the reference for the marine Miocene of Chile. Here we also expound upon some concepts relevant to the distinction between shallow-and deep-marine environments

Solving Shift Register Problems over Skew Polynomial Rings using Module Minimisation

    Get PDF
For many algebraic codes the main part of decoding can be reduced to a shift register synthesis problem. In this paper we present an approach for solving generalised shift register problems over skew polynomial rings which occur in error and erasure decoding of ℓ\ell-Interleaved Gabidulin codes. The algorithm is based on module minimisation and has time complexity O(ℓμ2)O(\ell \mu^2) where μ\mu measures the size of the input problem.Comment: 10 pages, submitted to WCC 201
