    Organizational and Technological Aspects of a Platform for Collective Food Awareness

    Can Internet-of-food technologies foster collective food awareness within a food consumer community? The paper contributes to answer this question in a fourfold aspect. Firstly, we model a cooperative process for generating and sharing reliable food information that is derived from food instrumental measurements performed by consumers via smart food things. Secondly, we outline the functional architecture of a platform capable to support such a process and to let a consumer community share reliable food information. Thirdly, we identify main entities and their attributes necessary to model the contextualized interaction between a consumer and the platform. Lastly, we review articles reviewing technologies capable of acquiring and quantifying food characteristics for food performances assessment. The purpose is to give an insight into current research directions on technologies employable in a platform for collective food awareness

Conocer bien el ambiente en el que se mueve el mundo online es de gran importancia si una empresa pretende construir una campaña publicitaria que sea capaz de consolidar el valor su marca y a la vez atraer a más consumidores.     Part 11: Services IInternational audienceNear Field Communication (NFC) technologies are normally used to establish radio communication between two NFC compatible devices by touching them together or bringing them together less than four centimeters. Nowadays, the interface of a large range of business and consumer applications are based on such technologies. In this paper, we propose a model to identify human-system interaction patterns that occur when NFC enabled devices are employed. Moreover, we show the applicability of such a model through an analysis of a relevant number of real world cases of applications and services which have currently arisen in many business streams.     Endometriosi profonda e disfunzioni urinarie dopo chirurgia laparoscopica: modulazione della dissezione chirurgica e riscontro anatomo-istologico

    Scopo dello studio. Valutazione della relazione tra dolore ed endometriosi, ed in particolare la possibile correlazione tra disturbi vescico-urinari e la quantità di fibre nervose e cellule gangliari resecate con l’intervento chirurgico laparoscopico per endometriosi profonda. Materiali e metodi. Studio retrospettivo su 230 donne con endometriosi severa e sottoposte ad intervento di chirurgia laparoscopica. Sede dello studio: Hôpital de Hautpierre, Strasburgo e Seconda Università di Napoli. Risultati. L’incidenza di ritenzione urinaria è stata del 4.5% (n=10). Assenza di differenze quantitative nel pattern di distribuzione di fibre nervose e cellule gangliari nei campioni resecati di entrambi i gruppi. Netto miglioramento della sintomatologia dolorosa in entrambi i gruppi, con peggioramento della disuria nelle pazienti con ritenzione urinaria post-operatoria. Conclusioni. Con la tecnica chirurgica nerve-sparing si è avuta una bassa incidenza di ritenzione urinaria; tuttavia non sono state riscontrate differenze significative nel pattern di distribuzione di fibre nervose e cellule gangliari nei due gruppi in esame

    Cord blood unit bankability can be predicted by prenatal sonographic parameters

    Objective: To identify possible sonographic prenatal parameters and postnatal parameters in order to obtain more bankable cord blood units (CBUs) containing a high number of primitive progenitor cells, allowing CBUs to be used as a source of haematopoietic progenitors for clinical transplantation. Study design: Prospective study undertaken in the Department of Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Science, Second University of Naples, Italy. In total, 219 unrelated CBU donors were enrolled. Ultrasound parameters (biparietal diameter, head circumference, abdominal circumference, femur length, estimation of fetal weight, umbilical artery pulsatility index), collected at hospital admission, together with birth weight and placental weight, were correlated with bankable CBU parameters (CBU volume, total nucleated cell count, CD34+ cell count). Results: Femur length and abdominal circumference correlated positively with bankable CBUs. Receiver operating curve analysis showed that these parameters can identify bankable CBUs. Conclusions: This is the first prospective study to show the relationship between ultrasonographic fetal parameters at term and the possibility of obtaining high-quality CBUs. As such, cord blood banking could be improved worldwide by performing low-cost ultrasonographic scans. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved
