    Renormalised four-point coupling constant in the three-dimensional O(N) model with N=0

    Full text link
    We simulate self-avoiding walks on a cubic lattice and determine the second virial coefficient for walks of different lengths. This allows us to determine the critical value of the renormalized four-point coupling constant in the three-dimensional N-vector universality class for N=0. We obtain g* = 1.4005(5), where g is normalized so that the three-dimensional field-theoretical beta-function behaves as \beta(g) = - g + g^2 for small g. As a byproduct, we also obtain precise estimates of the interpenetration ratio Psi*, Psi* = 0.24685(11), and of the exponent \nu, \nu = 0.5876(2).Comment: 16 page

    Interpolation Parameter and Expansion for the Three Dimensional Non-Trivial Scalar Infrared Fixed Point

    We compute the non--trivial infrared ϕ34\phi^4_3--fixed point by means of an interpolation expansion in fixed dimension. The expansion is formulated for an infinitesimal momentum space renormalization group. We choose a coordinate representation for the fixed point interaction in derivative expansion, and compute its coordinates to high orders by means of computer algebra. We compute the series for the critical exponent ν\nu up to order twenty five of interpolation expansion in this representation, and evaluate it using \pade, Borel--\pade, Borel--conformal--\pade, and Dlog--\pade resummation. The resummation returns 0.6262(13)0.6262(13) as the value of ν\nu.Comment: 29 pages, Latex2e, 2 Postscript figure

    On equivariant characteristic ideals of real classes

    Full text link
    Let pp be an odd prime, F/QF/{\Bbb Q} an abelian totally real number field, F∞/FF_\infty/F its cyclotomic Zp{\Bbb Z}_p-extension, G∞=Gal(F∞/Q),G_\infty = Gal (F_\infty / {\Bbb Q}), A=Zp[[G∞]].{\Bbb A} = {\Bbb Z}_p [[G_\infty]]. We give an explicit description of the equivariant characteristic ideal of HIw2(F∞,Zp(m))H^2_{Iw} (F_\infty, {\Bbb Z}_p(m)) over A{\Bbb A} for all odd m∈Zm \in {\Bbb Z} by applying M. Witte's formulation of an equivariant main conjecture (or "limit theorem") due to Burns and Greither. This could shed some light on Greenberg's conjecture on the vanishing of the λ\lambda-invariant of $F_\infty/F.

    Correction induced by irrelevant operators in the correlators of the 2d Ising model in a magnetic field

    We investigate the presence of irrelevant operators in the 2d Ising model perturbed by a magnetic field, by studying the corrections induced by these operators in the spin-spin correlator of the model. To this end we perform a set of high precision simulations for the correlator both along the axes and along the diagonal of the lattice. By comparing the numerical results with the predictions of a perturbative expansion around the critical point we find unambiguous evidences of the presence of such irrelevant operators. It turns out that among the irrelevant operators the one which gives the largest correction is the spin 4 operator T^2 + \bar T^2 which accounts for the breaking of the rotational invariance due to the lattice. This result agrees with what was already known for the correlator evaluated exactly at the critical point and also with recent results obtained in the case of the thermal perturbation of the model.Comment: 28 pages, no figure

    High-sensitivity monitoring of micromechanical vibration using optical whispering gallery mode resonators

    Full text link
    The inherent coupling of optical and mechanical modes in high finesse optical microresonators provide a natural, highly sensitive transduction mechanism for micromechanical vibrations. Using homodyne and polarization spectroscopy techniques, we achieve shot-noise limited displacement sensitivities of 10^(-19) m Hz^(-1/2). In an unprecedented manner, this enables the detection and study of a variety of mechanical modes, which are identified as radial breathing, flexural and torsional modes using 3-dimensional finite element modelling. Furthermore, a broadband equivalent displacement noise is measured and found to agree well with models for thermorefractive noise in silica dielectric cavities. Implications for ground-state cooling, displacement sensing and Kerr squeezing are discussed.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figure

    Molecular characterization of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus isolated from rose in Brazil.

    ABSTRACT There is no molecular characterization of Brazilian isolates of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV), except for those infecting peach. In this research, the causal agent of rose mosaic was determined and the movement (MP) and coat (CP) protein genes of a PNRSV isolate from rose were molecularly characterized for the first time in Brazil. The nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of MP and CP complete genes were aligned and compared with other isolates. Molecular analysis of the MP and CP nucleotide sequences of a Brazilian PNRSV isolate from rose and others from this same host showed highest identities of 96.7% and 98.6%, respectively, and Rose-Br isolate was classified in PV32 group. Key words: diagnosis, sequencing, Ilarvirus, PNRSV, ApMV, ArMV RESUMO Inexiste caracterização molecular de isolados brasileiros de Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV), exceto aqueles de pessegueiros. Neste trabalho, o agente causal do mosaico da roseira foi determinado e os genes das proteínas de movimento (MP) e capsidial (CP) de um isolado de PNRSV de roseira foram molecularmente caracterizados pela primeira vez no Brasil. As sequências completas de nucleotídeos e de aminoácidos deduzidos da MP e da CP foram alinhadas e comparadas com outros isolados. Análises das sequências de nucleotídeos da MP e da CP do isolado brasileiro de PNRSV de roseira e outros isolados da mesma hospedeira revelaram altas identidades de 96,7% e 98,6%, respectivamente, sendo o isolado Rose-Br classificado no grupo PV32.     Square lattice Ising model susceptibility: Series expansion method and differential equation for χ(3)\chi^{(3)}

    Full text link
    In a previous paper (J. Phys. A {\bf 37} (2004) 9651-9668) we have given the Fuchsian linear differential equation satisfied by χ(3)\chi^{(3)}, the ``three-particle'' contribution to the susceptibility of the isotropic square lattice Ising model. This paper gives the details of the calculations (with some useful tricks and tools) allowing one to obtain long series in polynomial time. The method is based on series expansion in the variables that appear in the (n−1)(n-1)-dimensional integrals representing the nn-particle contribution to the isotropic square lattice Ising model susceptibility χ\chi . The integration rules are straightforward due to remarkable formulas we derived for these variables. We obtain without any numerical approximation χ(3)\chi^{(3)} as a fully integrated series in the variable w=s/2/(1+s2)w=s/2/(1+s^{2}), where s=sh(2K) s =sh (2K), with K=J/kTK=J/kT the conventional Ising model coupling constant. We also give some perspectives and comments on these results.Comment: 28 pages, no figur
