Method and apparatus for fabricating improved solar cell modules

    Get PDF
A method and apparatus for fabricating an improved solar cell module is described. The apparatus includes a supply drum for feeding a flexible strip having etched electrical circuitry deposited on it a supply drum for feeding into overlying engagement with the flexible strip a flexible tape having a pair of exposed tacky surfaces, and a plurality of rams for receiving and depositing a plurality of solar cells in side-by-side relation on an exposed tacky surface of the tape in electrical contacting engagement with the etched circuitry

    Increasing Range Productivity

There are numerous practices and ways to improve the productiveness of rangeland including grazing systems, deferment, fertilization, mechanical treatments and others. Two methods that have shown promise from research at the Newell Field Station are summarized in this paper

Investigation of fast initialization of spacecraft bubble memory systems

    Get PDF
Bubble domain technology offers significant improvement in reliability and functionality for spacecraft onboard memory applications. In considering potential memory systems organizations, minimization of power in high capacity bubble memory systems necessitates the activation of only the desired portions of the memory. In power strobing arbitrary memory segments, a capability of fast turn on is required. Bubble device architectures, which provide redundant loop coding in the bubble devices, limit the initialization speed. Alternate initialization techniques are investigated to overcome this design limitation. An initialization technique using a small amount of external storage is demonstrated

Production, Crude Protein, and Use of 11 Irrigated Grasses and Alfalfa-Grass Combinations on Clay Soils in Western South Dakota

Livestock production in western South Dakota and other portions of the Northern Great Plains is a primary source of agricultural income. Maximum sustained livestock numbers are directly related to adequate forage production. Prior to recent advances in agricultural technology and application, maintenance of livestock numbers was difficult in periods of drought or heavy snow f all. With the advent of mechanized farming equipment, increased acreages of irrigated land, improved forage varieties, and better management practices, much has been done to increase and stabilize forage production, thereby stabilizing livestock production. Some portions of the region, including the Belle Fourche Irrigation Project, have great potential f or producing sustained abundant forage as hay , silage, and/or summer pasture. Although an estimated two-thirds of the irrigable land on the Project currently is devoted to forage production, little information is available concerning introduced grass yields, persistence, quality , and regrow the characteristics on irrigated Pierre Clay soils. This lack of information prompted a study to evaluate several characteristics of 11 common grasses grow n without nitrogen, with commercial nitrogen, and with alfalfa

Supporting the active learning of collaborative database browsing techniques

    Get PDF
We describe the implications of a study of database browsing behaviour for the development of a system to support more effective browsing. In particular we consider the importance of collaborative working, both in learning browsing skills and in co‐operating on a shared information‐retrieval task. From our study, we believe that an interface to support collaboration should promote the awareness of the activities of others, better visualization of the information data structures being browsed, and effective communication of the browsing process

Plants of South Dakota Grasslands: A Photographic Study

    Get PDF
The primary aim of this publication is to deal with vegetation of the plains, prairies, and associated tame pastures of South Dakota, as they exist today. Geographically, the major grassland area is in the western two-thirds of the State. Vegetation of the Tall Grass Prairie in the eastern third is considered in some detail, but more plants are listed that are characteristic of the mixed prairie in the remainder of the State. While no attempt was made to include vegetation of the Black Hills, many species common to plains are also found in the Hills and, where appropriate, this dual distribution is mentioned

Acoustic Emission Analysis Applet (AEAA) Software

    Get PDF
NASA Glenn Research and NASA White Sands Test Facility have developed software supporting an automated pressure vessel structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on acoustic emissions (AE). The software, referred to as the Acoustic Emission Analysis Applet (AEAA), provides analysts with a tool that can interrogate data collected on Digital Wave Corp. and Physical Acoustics Corp. software using a wide spectrum of powerful filters and charts. This software can be made to work with any data once the data format is known. The applet will compute basic AE statistics, and statistics as a function of time and pressure (see figure). AEAA provides value added beyond the analysis provided by the respective vendors' analysis software. The software can handle data sets of unlimited size. A wide variety of government and commercial applications could benefit from this technology, notably requalification and usage tests for compressed gas and hydrogen-fueled vehicles. Future enhancements will add features similar to a "check engine" light on a vehicle. Once installed, the system will ultimately be used to alert International Space Station crewmembers to critical structural instabilities, but will have little impact to missions otherwise. Diagnostic information could then be transmitted to experienced technicians on the ground in a timely manner to determine whether pressure vessels have been impacted, are structurally unsound, or can be safely used to complete the mission
