With One\u27s Own Arms: Condottieri, Machiavelli, and the Rise of the Florentine Militia
This paper examines the use of mercenary warfare on the Italian peninsula during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. It later focuses on the unique political and economic environment in Florence that led to Niccolo Machiavelli orchestrating the creation of the Florentine militia
Three published books of sermons delivered in Malta between 1694 and 1754
The identification of texts of sermons delivered in Malta during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries would make possible a study of the oratorical styles, themes treated, and languages used in their delivery. This, in turn, would enable a better understanding of the impact that such an important albeit ignored means of verbal communication had on its contemporary audience. In the present short study three unrecorded published books containing sermons are described and briefly discussed.peer-reviewe
A Note On The Denisova Cave mtDNA Sequence
The recently published Altai fossil sequence from Denisova Cave was purported to be so different from anatomically modern humans, yet have the physiological landmarks of that species designation. When the published sequence was examined it was found that segments in the mtDNA hypervariable regions could be found to align with that of anatomically modern humans if one introduced an insertion at a position found in Neanderthals. Some other points of interest arise from a reconsideration of the sequences for other published samples and Neanderthals from the same perspective
MHD models of Pulsar Wind Nebulae
Pulsar Wind Nebulae (PWNe) are bubbles or relativistic plasma that form when
the pulsar wind is confined by the SNR or the ISM. Recent observations have
shown a richness of emission features that has driven a renewed interest in the
theoretical modeling of these objects. In recent years a MHD paradigm has been
developed, capable of reproducing almost all of the observed properties of
PWNe, shedding new light on many old issues. Given that PWNe are perhaps the
nearest systems where processes related to relativistic dynamics can be
investigated with high accuracy, a reliable model of their behavior is
paramount for a correct understanding of high energy astrophysics in general. I
will review the present status of MHD models: what are the key ingredients,
their successes, and open questions that still need further investigation.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, Invited Review, Proceedings of the "ICREA

Estimating Multidimensional Persistent Homology through a Finite Sampling
An exact computation of the persistent Betti numbers of a submanifold of
a Euclidean space is possible only in a theoretical setting. In practical
situations, only a finite sample of is available. We show that, under
suitable density conditions, it is possible to estimate the multidimensional
persistent Betti numbers of from the ones of a union of balls centered on
the sample points; this even yields the exact value in restricted areas of the
domain.
Using these inequalities we improve a previous lower bound for the natural
pseudodistance to assess dissimilarity between the shapes of two objects from a
sampling of them.
Similar inequalities are proved for the multidimensional persistent Betti
numbers of the ball union and the one of a combinatorial description of it

ANALISIS STRUKTURAL VIOLIN SONATA IN A MAJOR NO.10, OP. POSTH KARYA NICCOLO PAGANINI
Sonata merupakan karya instrumental yang biasanya terdiri dari tiga hingga empat bagian. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti melakukan analisis struktural Violin Sonata in A Major No. 10, Op. Posth karya Niccolo Paganini. Sonatas are instrumental works that usually consist of three to four parts. In this study, the researcher conducted a structural analysis of the Violin Sonata in A Major No. 10, Op. Posth by Niccolo Paganini. This research was conducted to find out the form and structure of the work which has one part with a different form from sonatas in general, as well as to find out the differences between the Violin Sonata in A Major No. 10, Op. Posth by Niccolo Paganini with sonata form in general. This research uses qualitative methods using a musicological approach which includes the stages of observation, interviews, documentation, data triangulation, and data analysis techniques. The results of the study show that this work does not belong to the sonata form even though it has the title 'sonata', but uses a two-part song form (||: A :||: B :||) which is then developed in the form of variations when viewed from the form. Keywords: Structural analysis, Sonata, Niccolo Paganin
