    The trimer-based spin liquid candidate Ba4NbIr3O12

    Ba4NbIr3O12, a previously unreported material with a triangular planar geometry of Ir3O12 trimers, is described. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show no magnetic ordering down to 1.8 K despite the Curie-Weiss temperature of -13 K. The material has a very low effective magnetic moment of 0.80 {\mu}B/f.u. To look at the lower temperature behavior, the specific heat (Cp) was measured down to 0.35 K; it shows no indication of magnetic ordering and fitting a power law to Cp vs. T below 2 K yields the power {\alpha} = 3/4. Comparison to the previously unreported trimer compound made with the 4d element Rh in place of the 5d element Ir, Ba4NbRh3O12, is presented.     Approximation by finite mixtures of continuous density functions that vanish at infinity

    Given sufficiently many components, it is often cited that finite mixture models can approximate any other probability density function (pdf) to an arbitrary degree of accuracy. Unfortunately, the nature of this approximation result is often left unclear. We prove that finite mixture models constructed from pdfs in C0\mathcal{C}_{0} can be used to conduct approximation of various classes of approximands in a number of different modes. That is, we prove approximands in C0\mathcal{C}_{0} can be uniformly approximated, approximands in Cb\mathcal{C}_{b} can be uniformly approximated on compact sets, and approximands in Lp\mathcal{L}_{p} can be approximated with respect to the Lp\mathcal{L}_{p}, for p[1,)p\in\left[1,\infty\right). Furthermore, we also prove that measurable functions can be approximated, almost everywhere

    Influence of boundary conditions and geometric imperfections on lateral–torsional buckling resistance of a pultruded FRP I-beam by FEA

    Presented are results from geometric non-linear finite element analyses to examine the lateral torsional buckling (LTB) resistance of a Pultruded fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) I-beam when initial geometric imperfections associated with the LTB mode shape are introduced. A data reduction method is proposed to define the limiting buckling load and the method is used to present strength results for a range of beam slendernesses and geometric imperfections. Prior to reporting on these non-linear analyses, Eigenvalue FE analyses are used to establish the influence on resistance of changing load height or displacement boundary conditions. By comparing predictions for the beam with either FRP or steel elastic constants it is found that the former has a relatively larger effect on buckling strength with changes in load height and end warping fixity. The developed finite element modelling methodology will enable parametric studies to be performed for the development of closed form formulae that will be reliable for the design of FRP beams against LTB failure

In this paper, we providean overview of Vietnam’s inbound mergers and acquisitions and review the twomain driving forces of inbound M&A, which are the legal framework reformprocess and the equitization of State-owned enterprises. We close by providingdirections for future research in the area of cross-border M&As

    Profiling user activities with minimal traffic traces

    Understanding user behavior is essential to personalize and enrich a user's online experience. While there are significant benefits to be accrued from the pursuit of personalized services based on a fine-grained behavioral analysis, care must be taken to address user privacy concerns. In this paper, we consider the use of web traces with truncated URLs - each URL is trimmed to only contain the web domain - for this purpose. While such truncation removes the fine-grained sensitive information, it also strips the data of many features that are crucial to the profiling of user activity. We show how to overcome the severe handicap of lack of crucial features for the purpose of filtering out the URLs representing a user activity from the noisy network traffic trace (including advertisement, spam, analytics, webscripts) with high accuracy. This activity profiling with truncated URLs enables the network operators to provide personalized services while mitigating privacy concerns by storing and sharing only truncated traffic traces. In order to offset the accuracy loss due to truncation, our statistical methodology leverages specialized features extracted from a group of consecutive URLs that represent a micro user action like web click, chat reply, etc., which we call bursts. These bursts, in turn, are detected by a novel algorithm which is based on our observed characteristics of the inter-arrival time of HTTP records. We present an extensive experimental evaluation on a real dataset of mobile web traces, consisting of more than 130 million records, representing the browsing activities of 10,000 users over a period of 30 days. Our results show that the proposed methodology achieves around 90% accuracy in segregating URLs representing user activities from non-representative URLs

Recent piloted simulator studies and airplane flight tests have demonstrated that the automatic control systems in use on current fighters can be tailored to provide a high degree of spin resistance for some configurations without restrictions to maneuverability. Such systems result in greatly increased tactical effectiveness, safety, and pilot confidence

    Screening of charged impurities with multi-electron singlet-triplet spin qubits in quantum dots

    Charged impurities in semiconductor quantum dots comprise one of the main obstacles to achieving scalable fabrication and manipulation of singlet-triplet spin qubits. We theoretically show that using dots that contain several electrons each can help to overcome this problem through the screening of the rough and noisy impurity potential by the excess electrons. We demonstrate how the desired screening properties turn on as the number of electrons is increased, and we characterize the properties of a double quantum dot singlet-triplet qubit for small odd numbers of electrons per dot. We show that the sensitivity of the multi-electron qubit to charge noise may be an order of magnitude smaller than that of the two-electron qubit.Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures; typos corrected, minor revision
