Exploring CP Violation through B Decays
The B-meson system provides many strategies to perform stringent tests of the
Standard-Model description of CP violation. In this brief review, we discuss
implications of the currently available B-factory data on the angles alpha,
beta and gamma of the unitarity triangle, emphasize the importance of Bs
studies at hadronic B experiments, and discuss new, theoretically clean
strategies to determine gamma.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figures, invited brief review for Modern Physics Letters
QCD Sum Rules Calculation of Heavy Semileptonic Decay
We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which
in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark
effective theory. For the semileptonic \La_c decay we obtain a reasonable
agreement with experiment. For the \La_b semileptonic decay we find at the
zero recoil point a violation of the heavy quark symmetry of about 20%.Comment: Revised version. Title changed. 11 pages (RevTex), 4 PS figure
Transverse Momentum Distribution in b-> s Gamma
We present the complete calculation of the transverse momentum distribution
for the decay b->s Gamma. The contributions of the leading operator O_7 are
computed: infrared logarithms are resummed with next-to-leading accuracy,
according to usual techniques of resummation. Non logarithmic terms are
evaluated to O(alpha_S) by calculating one loop diagrams.Comment: Talk given 10th International QCD Conference (QCD 03), Montpellier,

Phenomenology of B -> pi pi, pi K Decays at O(alpha^2 beta_0) in QCD Factorization
We study O(alpha^2 beta_0) perturbative corrections to matrix elements
entering two-body exclusive decays of the form B -> pi pi, pi K in the QCD
factorization formalism, including chirally enhanced power corrections, and
discuss the effect of these corrections on direct CP asymmetries, which receive
their first contribution at O(alpha). We find that the O(alpha^2 beta_0)
corrections are often as large as the O(alpha) corrections. We find large
uncertainties due to renormalization scale dependence as well as poor knowledge
of the non-perturbative parameters. We assess the effect of the perturbative
corrections on the direct CP violation parameters of B -> pi^+ pi^-.Comment: 27 pages, 5 figures. Updated input parameters and added citations;

Decays of bottom mesons emitting tensor meson in final state using ISGW II model
In this paper, we investigate phenomenologically two-body weak decays of the
bottom mesons emitting pseudoscalar/vector meson and a tensor meson. Form
factors are obtained using the improved ISGW II model. Consequently, branching
ratios for the CKM-favored and CKM-suppressed decays are calculated.Comment: 32 pages, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Long-range two-body final-state interactions and direct CP asymmetry in {B}^{+}\to{\pi}^{+} {K}^{0} decay
We present a calculation of the direct CP asymmetry, , for the
process including the effects of long-range inelastic
final-state interactions (FSI). We admit three channels in our calculation:
, and . The strong
scattering is described in terms of Pomeron and Regge exchanges. We find that
the direct CP asymmetry is enhanced by a factor of as a result of FSI,
but remains well short of the claims of (10 - 20)% in recent literature. A
critical assessment of papers claiming large CP asymmetries is also presented.Comment: 21 pages, latex, no figures. Added the charge-exchange channel
{B}^{+}\to {\pi}^{0} {K}^{+}. Expanded the discussion section. To be
published in Phys. Rev.
Low temperature phase diagram and critical behaviour of the four-state chiral clock model
The low temperature behaviour of the four-state chiral clock () model
is reexamined using a systematic low temperature series expansion of the free
energy. Previously obtained results for the low temperature phases are
corrected and the low temperature phase diagram is derived. In addition, the
phase transition from the modulated region to the high temperature paraphase is
shown to belong to the universality class of the 3d-XY model.Comment: 17 pages in ioplppt style, 3 figure
Identification of placental transforming growth factor-beta and bikunin metabolites as contaminants of pharmaceutical human chorionic gonadotrophin preparations by proteomic techniques
This paper is the first to identify the novel bio-molecules found in pregnancy urine and commonly contaminate clinical grade hCG preparation extracted from urine reported to have anti-HIV/HIV Kaposis . Professor Iles was the Principal Investigator
