Rise in the frequency of cloud cover in LANDSAT data for the period 1973 to 1981
Percentages of cloud cover in LANDSAT imagery were used to calculate the cloud cover monthly average statistic for each LANDSAT scene in Brazil, during the period of 1973 to 1981. The average monthly cloud cover and the monthly minimum cloud cover were also calculated for the regions of north, northeast, central west, southeast and south, separately
Aspects of CPT-even Lorentz-symmetry violating physics in a supersymmetric scenario
Background fermion condensates in a landscape dominated by global SUSY are
reassessed in connection with a scenario where Lorentz symmetry is violated in
the bosonic sector (actually, the photon sector) by a -even -term. An
effective photonic action is discussed that originates from the supersymmetric
background fermion condensates. Also, the photino mass emerges in terms of a
particular condensate contrary to what happens in the -violation.
Finally, the interparticle potential induced by the effective photonic action
is investigated and a confining profile is identified.Comment: 14 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1102.3777 by

Quantum Cosmology in Scalar-Tensor Theories With Non Minimal Coupling
Quantization in the minisuperspace of non minimal scalar-tensor theories
leads to a partial differential equation which is non separable. Through a
conformal transformation we can recast the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in an
integrable form, which corresponds to the minimal coupling case, whose general
solution is known. Performing the inverse conformal transformation in the
solution so found, we can construct the corresponding one in the original
frame. This procedure can also be employed with the bohmian trajectories. In
this way, we can study the classical limit of some solutions of this quantum
model. While the classical limit of these solutions occurs for small scale
factors in the Einstein's frame, it happens for small values of the scalar
field non minimally coupled to gravity in the Jordan's frame, which includes
large scale factors.Comment: latex, 18 page
Functional Bosonization of Non-Relativistic Fermions in Dimensions
We analyze the universality of the bosonization rules in non-relativistic
fermionic systems in . We show that, in the case of linear fermionic
dispersion relations, a general fermionic theory can be mapped into a gauge
theory in such a way that the fermionic density maps into a magnetic flux and
the fermionic current maps into a transverse electric field. These are
universal rules in the sense that they remain valid whatever the interaction
considered. We also show that these rules are universal in the case of
non-linear dispersion relations provided we consider only density-density
interactions. We apply the functional bosonization formalism to a
non-relativistic and non-local massive Thirring-like model and evaluate the
spectrum of collective excitations in several limits. In the large mass limit,
we are able to exactly calculate this spectrum for arbitrary density-density
and current-current interactions. We also analyze the massless case and show
that it has no collective excitations for any density-density potential in the
Gaussian approximation. Moreover, the presence of current interactions may
induce a gapless mode with a linear dispersion relation.Comment: 26 Pages, LaTeX, Final version to appear in International Journal of

On singular Lagrangians affine in velocities
The properties of Lagrangians affine in velocities are analyzed in a
geometric way. These systems are necessarily singular and exhibit, in general,
gauge invariance. The analysis of constraint functions and gauge symmetry leads
us to a complete classification of such Lagrangians.Comment: AMSTeX, 22 page
Theory of Spin Fluctuations in Striped Phases of Doped Antiferromagnetic Cuprates
We study the properties of generalized striped phases of doped cuprate planar
quantum antiferromagnets. We invoke an effective, spatially anisotropic,
non-linear sigma model in two space dimensions. Our theoretical predictions are
in quantitative agreement with recent experiments in La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 with . We focus on (i) the magnetic correlation length, (ii) the
staggered magnetization at and (iii) the N\'eel temperature, as functions
of doping, using parameters determined previously and independently for this
system. These results support the proposal that the low doping
(antiferromagnetic) phase of the cuprates has a striped configuration.Comment: 4 pages, Revtex. To appear in the Proceedings of the International
