Australian Residential Solar Feed-in Tariffs: Industry Stimulus or Regressive Form of Taxation?
Feed-in Tariffs (FiT) for residential photovoltaic solar technologies are available in most Australian jurisdictions. Financial incentives under FiT are in addition to those provided by the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme which forms part of the national 20% Renewable Energy Target. Little attention has been paid to the welfare impacts of FiT on retail electricity prices and social policy objectives. Our analysis indicates that current FiT are a regressive form of taxation. By providing estimates of household impact by income groupings, we conclude that wealthier households are beneficiaries and the effective taxation rate for low income households is three times higher than that paid by the wealthiest households.Feed-in Tariffs, Electricity Prices
Learning from openness : the dynamics of breadth in external innovation linkages
We explore how openness in terms of external linkages generates learning effects, which enable firms to generate more innovation outputs from any given breadth of external linkages. Openness to external knowledge sources, whether through search activity or linkages to external partners in new product development, involves a process of interaction and information processing. Such activities are likely to be subject to a learning process, as firms learn which knowledge sources and collaborative linkages are most useful to their particular needs, and which partnerships are most effective in delivering innovation performance. Using panel data from Irish manufacturing plants, we find evidence of such learning effects: establishments with substantial experience of external collaborations in previous periods derive more innovation output from openness in the current period
The generalized Fenyes-Nelson model for free scalar field theory
The generalized Fenyes--Nelson model of quantum mechanics is applied to the
free scalar field. The resulting Markov field is equivalent to the Euclidean
Markov field with the times scaled by a common factor which depends on the
diffusion parameter. This result is consistent between Guerra's earlier work on
stochastic quantization of scalar fields. It suggests a deep connection between
Euclidean field theory and the stochastic interpretation of quantum mechanics.

Leading academic change: experiences of academic staff implementing team-based learning
YesTeam-based learning (TBL) is a collaborative learning model that shifts classroom time from a
teacher-centred to student-centred approach. TBL emphasises accountability to learning,
teamwork, immediate feedback, peer feedback, and critical thinking. While many educators
value the increased student engagement that results from TBL, the transition from traditional
teaching methods to TBL poses challenges. Using a qualitative approach, this study aimed to
explore the experiences of 26 academic staff in the United Kingdom who implemented TBL in
the higher education setting. Thematic analysis of interview text generated eight themes
related to preparing academics to use TBL, challenges related to TBL, and engagement of
students with the curriculum. Derived from these themes, a set of recommendations for
supporting academic staff who transition to TBL was developed

YesTeam-Based Learning (TBL) is a collaborative learning model that refocuses classroom time to solving relevant problems instead of dispensing information. This is accomplished by a pre-class readiness assurance process that promotes accountability to self-directed learning and teamwork. While research related to the student experience with TBL is present in the literature, there is a relative lack of research published on the experiences of academic staff with TBL. Using a qualitative approach and a semi-structured interview format, this study explored the experiences of 26 academic staff in the UK who implemented TBL using a semi-structured interview format. Longitudinal Spin Asymmetry and Cross Section of Inclusive pi0 Production in Polarized p+p Collisions at RHIC
We present the first measurement of the cross section and the double
longitudinal spin asymmetry of inclusive pi0 production in polarized p+p
collisions at Sqrt(s) = 200 GeV at mid-rapidity with the STAR detector, using
the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter. The measured cross section is compared
to NLO pQCD calculations and can provide constraints on the pion fragmentation
functions. Fragmentation is studied directly by measuring the momentum fraction
of pi0 in jets, a quantity that is affected by the fragmentation process and
jet reconstruction effects. The double longitudinal spin asymmetry is compared
to NLO pQCD calculations based on different assumptions for the gluon
polarization in the nucleon to provide constraints on delta g/g. At the present
level of statistics the measured asymmetry disfavors a large positive gluon
polarization, but can not yet distinguish between other scenarios.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, submitted to the proceedings of the 17th

Localized magnetic moments with tunable spin exchange in a gas of ultracold fermions
We report on the experimental realization of a state-dependent lattice for a
two-orbital fermionic quantum gas with strong interorbital spin exchange. In
our state-dependent lattice, the ground and metastable excited electronic
states of Yb take the roles of itinerant and localized magnetic
moments, respectively. Repulsive on-site interactions in conjunction with the
tunnel mobility lead to spin exchange between mobile and localized particles,
modeling the coupling term in the well-known Kondo Hamiltonian. In addition, we
find that this exchange process can be tuned resonantly by varying the on-site
confinement. We attribute this to a resonant coupling to center-of-mass excited
bound states of one interorbital scattering channel
