Percutaneous management of acute necrotizing pancreatitis
OBJECTIVES: The study aims to evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous necrosectomy (PN) performed under ultrasound control and of endoscopic necrosectomy through secondary sinus track (ENTSST) using nephroscope and cystoscope.MATERIAL AND METHOD: Puncture of fluid collections in the pancreas was performed under ultrasonographic control to 23 patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP). ENTSST using nephroscope and cystoscope was performed to 47 patients after open or percutaneous necrosectomy and persistent sepsis (without satellite collection of CT).RESULTS: Seventeen patients (74%) treated with percutaneous necrosectomy recovered without open surgery. Two of this group died. The average hospital stay was 42 days. Twenty-three patients required an average of two (range 1-4) ENTSST.CONCLUSIONS: Based on our initial results we believe that the percutaneous necrosectomy and ENTSST in well selected patients might be the better choice than open necrosectomy and postoperative lavage. Common solution for these methods has not been reached yet
Detailed comparison of the pp -> \pi^+pn and pp -> \pi^+d reactions at 951 MeV
The positively charged pions produced in proton-proton collisions at a beam
momentum of 1640 MeV/c were measured in the forward direction with a high
resolution magnetic spectrograph. The missing mass distribution shows the bound
state (deuteron) clearly separated from the continuum. Despite the very
good resolution, there is no evidence for any significant production of the
system in the spin-singlet state. However, the cross section ratio is about twice as large as
that predicted from -wave final-state-interaction theory and it is suggested
that this is due to -state effects in the system.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
Continuous selections of multivalued mappings
This survey covers in our opinion the most important results in the theory of
continuous selections of multivalued mappings (approximately) from 2002 through
2012. It extends and continues our previous such survey which appeared in
Recent Progress in General Topology, II, which was published in 2002. In
comparison, our present survey considers more restricted and specific areas of
mathematics. Note that we do not consider the theory of selectors (i.e.
continuous choices of elements from subsets of topological spaces) since this
topics is covered by another survey in this volume
Fast optoelectric printing of plasmonic nanoparticles into tailored circuits
Plasmonic nanoparticles are able to control light at nanometre-scale by coupling electromagnetic fields to the oscillations of free electrons in metals. Deposition of such nanoparticles onto substrates with tailored patterns is essential, for example, in fabricating plasmonic structures for enhanced sensing. This work presents an innovative micro-patterning technique, based on optoelectic printing, for fast and straightforward fabrication of curve-shaped circuits of plasmonic nanoparticles deposited onto a transparent electrode often used in optoelectronics, liquid crystal displays, touch screens, etc. We experimentally demonstrate that this kind of plasmonic structure, printed by using silver nanoparticles of 40 nm, works as a plasmonic enhanced optical device allowing for polarized-color-tunable light scattering in the visible. These findings have potential applications in biosensing and fabrication of future optoelectronic devices combining the benefits of plasmonic sensing and the functionality of transparent electrodes
Recoil Polarization Measurements of the Proton Electromagnetic Form Factor Ratio to Q^2 = 8.5 GeV^2
Among the most fundamental observables of nucleon structure, electromagnetic
form factors are a crucial benchmark for modern calculations describing the
strong interaction dynamics of the nucleon's quark constituents; indeed, recent
proton data have attracted intense theoretical interest. In this letter, we
report new measurements of the proton electromagnetic form factor ratio using
the recoil polarization method, at momentum transfers Q2=5.2, 6.7, and 8.5
GeV2. By extending the range of Q2 for which GEp is accurately determined by
more than 50%, these measurements will provide significant constraints on
models of nucleon structure in the non-perturbative regime
Search for -mesic nuclei in recoil-free transfer reaction
We have studied the reaction at
recoil-free kinematics. An meson possibly produced in this reaction
would be thus almost at rest in the laboratory system and could therefore be
bound with high probability, if nuclear states exist. The decay of such
a state through the resonance would lead to a proton- pair
emitted in opposite directions. For these conditions we find some indication of
such a bound state. An upper limit of 0.5 nb is found.Comment: 3 figure
A precision determination of the mass of the meson
Several processes of meson production in proton-deuteron collisions have been
measured simultaneously using a calibrated magnetic spectrograph. Among these
processes, the meson is seen clearly as a sharp missing--mass peak on a
slowly varying background in the reaction. Knowing
the kinematics of the other reactions with well determined masses, it is
possible to deduce a precise mass for the meson. The final result,
,
is significantly lower than that found by the recent NA48 measurement, though
it is consistent with values obtained in earlier counter experiments.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, Fig. 3 change
