How to manage the unknown past: places of memory and places of playing

The given article presents and analyzes the argumentation provided by various scholars concerning the issue of saving the memory of challenging past or eliminating it. The causes and consequences of creating lieux de memoire and lieux de amnesie are revealed. Moreover, the study of Germany, Ukraine and Russia cases of dealing with the memory of Nazi concentration camps allows to approach the solution for an ethical question of the duty of memory or forming unity and identity through forgetting

Orthodox Social Institutions and russian Civil Society at the Turn of the 20th Century

The article was submitted on 11.06.2014.The article explores the peculiarities of creation and function of Russian Orthodox social institutions of the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries in the relation to church reforms that were part of the modernization social life process. The author’s research focuses on whether it is possible to consider organizations created “from above” civil social institutions, and refers to the all-Russian, regional and local organizations. The author analyzes the correspondence and interaction of initiatives put forward by the authorities and the public during the establishment of the aforementioned organizations, as well as whether the regional peculiarities were taken into consideration during the process, as well as the public’s reaction to their activity. Using the historical-typological, structural-functional, and comparative approaches, the author concludes that church organizations should be regarded more as a means of learning the fundamentals of civil values and social initiative than as established social institutions as such.

Impact of hydrocarbon drilling mud on mud motor elastomers at different temperatures

Get PDF
The paper describes the experimental research of hydrocarbon drilling mud impact on engineering parameters of mud motor elastomer samples. It is believed to be urgent due to an increase in using mud motors in oil and gas well construction now, and the issue of intense exploitation is currently topical. The test results of elastomer IRP- 1226 dependent on the temperature are shown in the paper. It is proved that the hydrocarbon drilling muds have a significant impact on wearing of mud motors elastomers under the condition of a temperature increase

Climatic variability of the mean flow and stationary planetary waves in the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data

NCEP/NCAR (National Center for Environmental Prediction – National Center for Atmospheric Research) data have been used to estimate the long-term variability of the mean flow, temperature, and Stationary Planetary Waves (SPW) in the troposphere and lower stratosphere. The results obtained show noticeable climatic variabilities in the intensity and position of the tropospheric jets that are caused by temperature changes in the lower atmosphere. As a result, we can expect that this variability of the mean flow will cause the changes in the SPW propagation conditions. The simulation of the SPW with zonal wave number m=1 (SPW1), performed with a linearized model using the mean flow distributions typical for the 1960s and for the beginning of 21st century, supports this assumption and shows that during the last 40 years the amplitude of the SPW1 in the stratosphere and mesosphere increased substantially. The analysis of the SPW amplitudes extracted from the geopotential height and zonal wind NCEP/NCAR data supports the results of simulation and shows that during the last years there exists an increase in the SPW1 activity in the lower stratosphere. These changes in the amplitudes are accompanied by increased interannual variability of the SPW1, as well. Analysis of the SPW2 activity shows that changes in its amplitude have a different sign in the northern winter hemisphere and at low latitudes in the southern summer hemisphere. The value of the SPW2 variability differs latitudinally and can be explained by nonlinear interference of the primary wave propagation from below and from secondary SPW2

The article presents the analysis of sequential use of mobile percussive-rotary drilling sets with DTH hammer and bottom-hole cleaning by foam mud in construction of vertical sections along with at Kuyumbinsky oil field. On the basis of the analysis, an engineering solution is proposed to prevent disastrous mud loss that is the key factor of efficiency in implementation of resource-saving technologies
