    Get PDF
El propósito central de esta investigación es preservar el aura de los objetos de colección, manteniendo vivo su significado y contexto cultural.#ObjetosCurrently, both globally and in Colombia, there is a growing phenomenon where certain individuals attribute significant emotional value to their belongings, surpassing their commercial appraisal or aesthetic significance. This subjective value might not be shared by others, and could even be considered trivial in everyday life. A variety of items that many people regard as ordinary, or simply part of their routine, such as keychains, coffee makers, toys, vinyl records, and coins, among others, take on special significance in the lives of those who embrace this trend. This is referred to as “memorabilia”, a term that has gained traction lately worldwide. It originally belongs to the Latin language, and later on, it has been naturalized into the English language and, more recently, accepted in Spanish-speaking contexts. As defined by MejíaEscobar (2018), “The word belongs to the Latin language and means things that are worthy of being remembered.” Memorabilia thus fits into the postmodernity era, a period characterized by a nostalgic and disillusioned society that finds solace in past times and attempts to recall them, among other ways, through objects preserved by individuals. This research emerges from the idea of studying and establishing a connection between the present and objects that remind us of the past, with the aim of preserving them for the future. Individuals attribute emotional, historical, and aesthetic value to these collectible objects, including the concept of “aura”. Now, technology and digital platforms can facilitate their preservation and dissemination, along with the stories associated with these objects. The research delved into the emotional relationships that people establish with their possessions, analyzing how memorabilia and nostalgia influence the assessment of specific items and the preservation of their “aura.” Through the use of digital tools and new technologies, the study seeks to generate dynamics that promote attachment and additional value to objects, preventing their premature disposal and facilitating the protection of both objects and their stories. To conduct this research, a methodology grounded in secondary sources and a qualitative approach has been implemented. Interviews and fieldwork have been conducted, including visits to participants' spaces. These tools aid in discerning the motivations that drive people to preserve their memorabilia items. A significant aspect of this approach lies in the digitization of objects, a key resource that will help preserve the essence and historical value of collections. Additionally, the creation of online communities has been considered, envisioned as spaces that encourage interaction among collectors and foster shared cultural enrichment. The central purpose of this research is to preserve the aura of collectible objects, keeping their meaning and cultural context alive

Sleep enhances inhibitory behavioral control in discrimination learning in rats

Sleep supports the consolidation of memory, and it has been proposed that this enhancing effect of sleep pertains in particular to memories which are encoded under control of prefrontal–hippocampal circuitry into an episodic memory system. Furthermore, repeated reactivation and transformation of such memories during sleep are thought to promote the de-contextualization of these memories. Here, we aimed to establish a behavioral model for the study of such sleep-dependent system consolidation in rats, using a go/nogo conditional discrimination learning task known to essentially depend on prefrontal–hippocampal function. Different groups of rats were trained to criterion on this task and, then, subjected to 80-min retention intervals filled with spontaneous morning sleep, sleep deprivation, or spontaneous evening wakefulness. In a subsequent test phase, the speed of relearning of the discrimination task was examined as indicator of memory, whereby rats were either tested in the same context as during training or in a different context. Sleep promoted relearning of the conditional discrimination task, and this effect was similar for testing memory in the same or different context (p < 0.001). Independent of sleep and wakefulness during the retention interval, animals showed faster relearning when tested in the same context as during learning, compared with testing in a different context (p < 0.001). The benefitting effect of sleep on discrimination learning was primarily due to an enhancing effect on response suppression during the nogo stimulus. We infer from these results that sleep enhances memory for inhibitory behavioral control in a generalized context-independent manner and thereby might eventually also contribute to the abstraction of schema-like representations

El número reproductivo básico (Ro) encontrado fue 3,26.Simulation of a Hog Cholera Outbreak on a Swine Breeding Farm ABSTRACT Admission of a swine infected by hog cholera on a swine breeding farm was simulated to demonstrate this disease outbreak performance when no restraining or preventive measures are affected. The SEIR model (susceptivity, exposure, infestation, and restoration) was applied by using the computer program R and the statistical package Odesolve. The study was conducted during January 2011. A transmissibility index of 0,35, a disease duration of ten days, and a latent period of ten days were set. The SEIR model showed how this disease peaked after a twelve-day onset with a total of 127 infected swines, i.e., 63 % of the exposed population, when no measures were affected. The basic reproductive number (Ro) was 3,26

The present study was performed at a livestock center, where Zebu sires and heavy-breeding cows are raised, in Camagüey province. Results from a Cuban vaccine vs. Leptospira interrogans (var. pomona, icterohaemorrhagiae, and canicola) were evaluated from October 1997 to December 1998. A retrospective study on data from epizootiological records was carried out. These data comprised serological tests performed during the analyzed period of time and health index behavior related to leptospirosis disease. Data from economic records were also reviewed as sire commercialization was concerned. Protective antibodies against leptospirosis serotypes were detected in 90% of vaccined animals. Antibody values remained high over a 12-month period of time, in which neither disease signs and symptoms, nor nephropathies, or adverse reactions (local or general) due to vaccine were registered.

Condition monitoring system for characterization of electric motor ball bearings with distributed fault using fuzzy inference tools

    Get PDF
The present work shows a condition monitoring system applied to electric motors ball bearings. Unlike most of the previous work on this area, which is mainly focused on the location of single-point defects in bearing components – inner and outer races, cage or ball faults -, this research covers wide range irregularities which are very often more difficult to analyse. In addition to traditional techniques like vibration and current signals, high frequency current bearing pulses and acoustic emissions are also analysed. High frequency bearings current pulses are acquired using motors especially modified. This modification isolates ball bearings from the motor stator frame, except for a bearing housing single point connected to ground through a proper cable where the pulses signal is measured. A multivariable fuzzy inference analysis approach is presented to get around the diagnosis difficulty.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Optimizing Spacer Length for Positioning Functional Groups in Bio-Waste

The goal of this study was to determine the optimal chain length needed for tethering functional groups on bio-wastes. The purpose of modifying the surface of bio-waste is to improve their affinity for phenols. To this end, four different aminated green tea leaves, with the amine group located at the end of 6, 8, 10, and 12 carbons were synthesized. Green approaches to functionalization lead to fewer reactive sites. Optimizing spacer length is one way to ameliorate this. The aminated tea leaves were prepared by a tosylation reaction followed by displacement with a diamine used in excess. The tea leaves with the amine at the end of six carbons proved to have the best ability to remove 2-chlorophenol (2-CP) from its aqueous solution. It was at least 3–4 times better than native spent tea leaves. The mechanism by which the phenol was removed proved to be primarily an acid–base reaction followed by H-bonding and dipole–dipole interactions. Because of the acid–base interactions, the relatively low-boiling 2-CP did not volatilize off the aminated tea leaves enabling recycling. On the other hand, with activated charcoal, the adsorbed 2-CP volatilized almost completely under ambient conditions
