Evolution and Change in Civic Engagement Organizations: A Life-Cycle Analysis of the Maine League of Young Voters

The Maine League of Young Voters is an organization involved in educational and political civic engagement activities in the State of Maine. A membership base consisting of hundreds of grassroots members makes up the base of the organization. By studying the life cycle of the Maine League of Young Voters and comparing it to similar civic engagement organizations, the research here aims to increase the body of knowledge available about how these types of organizations evolve and change. Findings from surveys and interviews indicated that the organization was over-extending the membership, despite a strong grassroots network, and that more delegation of tasks and leadership is necessary. Recommendations are included for improving the ability of the organization to detect and self-assess potential difficulties in the future

This report provides summary information on degrees conferred at the University of Maine System for the 2010-11 academic year. The following notes apply to all of the tables and charts contained within this report, unless otherwise noted: 1. Data for past years may differ from previous reports due to changes in the segregation of data by degree level and discipline. The current report follows the classification standards outlined by the National Center for Education Statistics (IPEDS). 2. The 2010-11 academic year for degrees conferred is July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. 3. Multiple degrees awarded to a single individual within the academic year are counted separately. Multiple degrees are based on independent courses of study (e.g., one in Business and Management and one in Foreign Languages), not multiple majors within the same degree. The figures in this report include only first majors. 4. Percentages are of total degrees conferred for the year (may not add to 100% due to rounding). 5. Certificate of advanced study degrees include certificates awarded below and above the baccalaureate level

The following report provides summary information on degrees conferred at the University of Maine System for the 2012-13 academic year. A change to the report from previous years occurred due to the way science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines are defined in the outcomes-based funding (OBF) model. IPEDS is unable to provide the level of detail necessary to show STEM degrees as defined in the OBF model, therefore the section describing STEM was removed and will be provided in a separate report. All STEM degrees conferred still appear in the aggregate. Another change is the addition of a small line chart at the end of some tables, also known as a sparkline, that provides a simplified at-a-glance graphical representation of data trends over time.
