Inference of the boundary layer structure over the oceans from satellite infrared measurements

    Get PDF
The characteristics of the boundary layer of the atmosphere over the global oceans between about 50 deg N to 40 deg S were remotely sensed for three different periods, about 3 months each, during the year 1970. The spectral measurements made by Nimbus 4 Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer were used for this purpose

Ultrasonic assisted synthesis of activated carbon for electromagnetic shielding material from rice husk fibre

911-917Synthesis of any biomaterials/biocomposites for different applications like in electromagnetic wave communication, radar, satellite system needs the processing of its raw material. The suitability of raw material is a challenging task for fabrication technology depending on its type of work performed and efficiency. The surface modification/surface bleaching is performed to facilitate the fillers and matrix for good interlocking between them for improvement in mechanical strength. The material used for microwave absorption or energy storage device in low observable technology (LOT) needs good mechanical strength. The present paper encloses the treatment of raw materials like rice husk with suitable blended chemicals maleic acid with different alcohols. The optimized blended chemicals are determined by computation of different acoustic parameters with the propagation of ultrasonic wave in low frequency range. The rice husk are treated with the optimized blended solution which results in increase of porosity of the material and hence for the fabrication of composites. The element dispersion study images of untreated and treated rice husk signify the suitability of the material for synthesis of microwave absorbing materials

Excess Observed in CDF Bs0μ+μB^0_s \to \mu^{+} \mu^{-} and SUSY at the LHC

The recent excess observed by CDF in Bs0μ+μB^0_s \to \mu^{+} \mu^{-} is interpreted in terms of a possible supersymmetric origin. An analysis is given of the parameter space of mSUGRA and non-universal SUGRA models under the combined constraints from LHC-7 with 165 pb1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, under the new XENON-100 limits on the neutralino-proton spin independent cross section and under the CDF Bs0μ+μB^0_s \to \mu^{+} \mu^{-} 90% C.L. limit reported to arise from an excess number of dimuon events. It is found that the predicted value of the branching ratio Bs0μ+μB^0_s \to \mu^{+} \mu^{-} consistent with all the constraints contains the following set of NLSPs: chargino, stau, stop or CP odd (even) Higgs. The lower bounds of sparticles, including those from the LHC, XENON and CDF Bs0μ+μB^0_s\to \mu^+\mu^- constraint, are exhibited and the shift in the allowed range of sparticle masses arising solely due to the extra constraint from the CDF result is given. It is pointed out that the two sided CDF 90% C.L. limit puts upper bounds on sparticle masses. An analysis of possible signatures for early discovery at the LHC is carried out corresponding to the signal region in Bs0μ+μB^0_s \to \mu^{+} \mu^{-}. Implications of GUT-scale non-universalities in the gaugino and Higgs sectors are discussed. If the excess seen by the CDF Collaboration is supported by further data from LHCb or D0, this new result could be a harbinger for the discovery of supersymmetry.Comment: References added, text update

The Role of Δ(1232)\Delta(1232) in Two-pion Exchange Three-nucleon Potential

In this paper we have studied the two-pion exchange three-nucleon potential (2πE3NP)(2\pi E-3NP) using an approximate SU(2)×SU(2)SU(2) \times SU(2) chiral symmetry of the strong interaction. The off-shell pion-nucleon scattering amplitudes obtained from the Weinberg Lagangian are supplemented with contributions from the well-known σ\sigma-term and the Δ(1232)\Delta(1232) exchange. It is the role of the Δ\Delta-resonance in 2πE3NP2\pi E-3NP, which we have investigated in detail in the framework of the Lagrangian field theory. The Δ\Delta-contribution is quite appreciable and, more significantly, it is dependent on a parameter Z which is arbitrary but has the empirical bounds Z1/2|Z| \leq 1/2. We find that the Δ\Delta-contribution to the important parameters of the 2πE3NP2\pi E-3NP depends on the choice of a value for Z, although the correction to the binding energy of triton is not expected to be very sensitive to the variation of Z within its bounds.Comment: 14 pages, LaTe

Predictions in SU(5) Supergravity Grand Unification with Proton Stability and Relic Density Constraints

    Get PDF
It is shown that in the physically interesting domain of the parameter space of SU(5) supergravity GUT, the Higgs and the Z poles dominate the LSP annihilation. Here the naive analyses on thermal averaging breaks down and formulae are derived which give a rigorous treatment over the poles. These results are then used to show that there exist significant domains in the parameter space where the constraints of proton stability and cosmology are simultaneously satisfied. New upper limits on light particle masses are obtained.Comment: (An error in the reheating factor is corrected, strengthening the conclusions, i.e. the region in parameter space where the relic density constraints are satisfied is enlarged.

Testing Supergravity Grand Unification at Future Accelerator and Underground Experiments

The full parameter space of supergravity grand unified theory with SU(5)SU(5) type pνˉKp \rightarrow \bar{\nu} K proton decay is analysed using renormalization group induced electroweak symmetry breaking under the restrictions that the universal scalar mass mom_o and gluino mass are 1\leq 1 TeV (no extreme fine tuning) and the Higgs triplet mass obeys MH3/MG<10M_{H_3}/M_G < 10. Future proton decay experiments at SuperKamiokande or ICARUS can reach a sensitivity for the νˉK\bar{\nu} K mode of (25)×1033(2-5) \times 10^{33} yr allowing a number of predictions concerning the SUSY mass spectrum. Thus either the pνˉKp \rightarrow\bar{\nu} K decay mode will be seen at these experiments or a chargino of mass mW~<100m_{\tilde{W}} < 100 GeV will exist and hence be observable at LEP2. Further, if (pνˉK)>1.5×1033(p \rightarrow \bar{\nu} K) > 1.5 \times 10^{33} yr, then either the light Higgs has mass mh95m_h \leq 95 GeV or mW~100m_{\tilde{W}} \leq 100 GeV i.e. either the light Higgs or the light chargino (or both) would be observable at LEP2. Thus, the combination of future accelerator and future underground experiments allow for strong experimental tests of this theory.Comment: 7 figures available upon request, CTP-TAMU-32/93, NUB-TH-3066/93 and SSCL-Preprint-44

Relative efficacy of six essential oils, viz., Cinnamon, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Orange, Pine, Spearmint and four insect repellents i.e, Dimethyl phthalate (DMP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Expel and Mylol was investigated against landleeches,Haemadipsa zeylanica montivindicis Moore, under laboratory conditions. Cinnamon oil was found to be the best among the essential oils and out of repellents, Mylol and DMP were effective equally
