Domestic Violence against Immigrant Women in Transit - The Case of Serbia
The focus of the paper is on domestic violence against immigrant women during the transit and stay in Serbia, on their way from MENA countries(1) to the European Union. The objective is to present and analyze the phenomenon. It is contextualized within a theoretical framework of intersections between domestic violence, migration and the crisis and consideration of migration from MENA countries flowing through Serbia, as a part of the Western Balkan's Route, with an emphasis on immigrant women. This is followed by the scrutinisation of domestic violence against immigrant women in Serbia - its occurrence and reporting, along with the author's reflections thereof. Main conclusions point to the importance of preventive and empowering strategies directed towards immigrant women. Challenges to that are numerous: some stem from under-performance of services aimed at prevention and empowerment of women who are victims of domestic violence in Serbia in general, and some are related to the factors specific for the situation of immigrant women
Role of Research and Researchers during Transition: Case Study of Lithuania
A review of more than 100 publications and papers by Lithuanian and external experts published from 1990 to 2006 in academic journals, books and monographs, proceedings and reports is the basis for this assessment of the role research has played in the policy evolution from 1990 to present. These studies had impacts on decision making, and there are also many ways in which the experiences of policy makers have informed the agricultural economics profession and improved our knowledge and understanding of the complexities of reform and transition. That is, the transition experience was in many ways a two-way and interactive learning process between researchers and policy makers and between east and west. We conclude that a key element in making research relevant and realistic was a process of frequent interaction among analysts and practitioners within Lithuania and among other transition country and external experts and practitioners.economic transition, EU accession, policy reform, collaboration, policy research, Research and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies,
CREDITS FOR SERBIAN AGRICULTURE IN THE TRANSITION PERIOD
The possibility for self-financing in agriculture is very small, primarily due to lower labour productivity leading to lower rate of surplus value. Therefore, in the development of Serbian agriculture, special importance is attached to other sources of financing such as: the Agrarian budget, i.e. credits of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management; credits of business banks; development funds; leasing companies. With the reconstruction of the Serbian banking system in 1994, the primary issue, as an important source for financing agriculture used primarily for current reproduction, was abandoned. Due to transition to a market economy system and cancellation of financing from the primary issue, economic entities in agriculture have found themselves in a very unfavourable position. Therefore, in 2004, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management started, for the first time, with lending credits to agricultural entities. The source of money is the Agrarian budget of Serbia. Besides this important source for financing agriculture, the paper also analyses other mentioned sources for lending credits to Serbian agricultural entities in the transition period, i.e. from 2004 to 2008.credit lending, agriculture, agricultural budget, transition, Agribusiness, Agricultural Finance, Community/Rural/Urban Development,
Prospects and Challenges in Lithuanian Agricultural Markets After EU Accession
Medium-term prospects for key agricultural markets in Lithuania are analysed under alternative policies. Policy alternatives show the impacts of EU accession and also the impacts of implementing AP reforms in 2007. The model is a partial equilibrium, multi-commodity model where commodity prices are linked to key prices in major EU markets. The accession analysis shows significant impacts on production, prices, and even on relative prices. It indicates impacts on production and trade patterns. The most realistic scenario (SAPS to 2006 and SFP from 2007 to 2010) generates a growth in product value more than 10 percent higher than the non-accession scenario. The largest increase is in the value of milk production. There also is a decline in crops share and increase in milk share of the total market revenue, while cattle and dairy together increase from about 35 percent of output value in 2002 to over 45 percent in 2010.EU accession, CAP reform, policy, Industrial Organization, Q18,
Cultural aspects of decision-making in online purchases
Empirical studies and e-commerce practice have shown that even in the context of globalization customers still need to feel associated by culture with the seller or the service provider. The aim of this paper is to identify and bring together the main cultural and psychological aspects that influence decision-making in e-purchases. Cultural adaptation has a great potential for improving the efficiency of communication with customers; thus, localization of the e-offer has a positive impact on the customer-seller dialogue. The results of the conducted research show the main cultural aspects, which have to be considered when adapting e-offers to Baltic (Latvia, Lithuania) and Russian markets
Lithuanian Agriculture and the World Market: Policy Options and Implications and Modeling Agricultural Markets for Policy Trade Analysis in Lithuania
The two related papers in this report were prepared for two conferences in Estonia in May 1993. The first paper (Saku) discusses alternative policy directions for Lithuanian agriculture and provides a qualitative assessment of these options. The second paper (Tartu) uses a simulation model for Lithuanian agricultural markets to analyze the impacts of three policy scenarios. The reference or baseline scenario assumes that real prices will increase at a specified rate. This forms the basis for comparison of two other scenarios. One assumes that domestic prices reach world market parity prices by 1995, allowing only for a quality discount of 15 percent for meat products. The other scenario assumes the extreme self-sufficiency case, where all imports and exports are zero and prices are solved for equilibrium levels
Empirical verification of network coverage plans for LoRaWAN IoT infrastructures
openThe Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly grown in recent years, leading to the adoption of Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) in important infrastructures such as energy, water and gas distribution systems. LPWAN technologies, which operate in the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum, offer a promising solution for implementing Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI). This thesis focuses on a key challenge in deploying AMI LPWAN, which is strategically placing and installing gateway devices to ensure optimal coverage for smart meters. By addressing this challenge, the research aims to optimize LPWANs for the efficient implementation of AMI in large-scale critical infrastructures. The Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly grown in recent years, leading to the adoption of Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) in important infrastructures such as energy, water and gas distribution systems. Analysis of service properties of cylindrically ground surfaces, using standard ISO 25178-2:2012 surface texture parameters
At present surface roughness is one of the main indications of component quality. During the operation mainly the outer layer of the component is exposed to external action, and depending on the roughness structure conclusions can be drawn about the service properties of the surface. Because cylindrical grinding today is rather widely used and precise method of treatment of bodies of revolution in the field of mechanical engineering the given paper pays attention to the surfaces treated on cylindrical grinding machines, and more exactly to their roughness, determining the possible use of the given surfaces. For the analyses of the roughness parameters the ISO standard ISO 25178-2:2012”Geometrical product specifications (GPS) — Surface texture: Areal — Part 2: Terms, definitions and surface texture parameters” was used, in which there were determined the texture parameters of the surface. Contrary to other standards, such as ISO 4287, ISO 13565 the new standard allowed to assess real surface properties, since in the given case the surface is being viewed in three-dimension space. During the research three cylindrically ground samples treated at different cutting conditions were chosen. By the help of modern measuring equipment Taylor Hobson Talysurf Intra 50 the topography of the given samples was taken in order to obtain and compare the roughness parameters and for the purpose of setting relation between the cutting regime and roughness parameters, and determining mathematical model of cylindrically ground samples. As a result of research it was stated that the given type of surfaces is characterized by irregular roughness, that is location of micro-peaks regarding their height and shape are irregular and also the correlation function of cylindrically ground surfaces is rapidly diminishing, but the density distribution of ordinates is close to normal. Based on the above feature of surface roughness such service properties as wear resistance, retention of lubricants and coatings (adhesion) and provision of required contact area were determined
