A Frame Work for the Error Analysis of Discontinuous Finite Element Methods for Elliptic Optimal Control Problems and Applications to C0C^0 IP methods

In this article, an abstract framework for the error analysis of discontinuous Galerkin methods for control constrained optimal control problems is developed. The analysis establishes the best approximation result from a priori analysis point of view and delivers reliable and efficient a posteriori error estimators. The results are applicable to a variety of problems just under the minimal regularity possessed by the well-posed ness of the problem. Subsequently, applications of C0C^0 interior penalty methods for a boundary control problem as well as a distributed control problem governed by the biharmonic equation subject to simply supported boundary conditions are discussed through the abstract analysis. Numerical experiments illustrate the theoretical findings. Finally, we also discuss the variational discontinuous discretization method (without discretizing the control) and its corresponding error estimates.Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, 1 tabl

Growth and survival of tiger prawn, Penaeus monodon in the sandy beach ponds at Calicut

    Get PDF
Penaeus monodon is one of the important species contributing to the traditional culture fisheries of the Southeast Asian countries and to the well established intensive or semi-intensive culture practices of the Indo-Pacific region. Culture of this species has been attempted in the polyethylene film-lined ponds made in the sandy beach. The present data on the giowth rate and percentage of recovery suggest that the culture conditions maintained in the experimental pond at Calicut were suitable for obtaining better results. Further, it is expected that better production rate can be achieved by increasing the stocking density to an optimum level which, however, could not be carried out due to scarcity of material during the present experimen

Homogenization of low-cost control problems on perforated domains

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to study the asymptotic behaviour of some low-cost control problems in periodically perforated domains with Neumann condition on the boundary of the holes. The optimal control problems considered here are governed by a second order elliptic boundary value problem with oscillating coefficients. It is assumed that the cost of the control is of the same order as that describing the oscillations of the coefficients. The asymptotic analysis of small cost problem is more delicate and need the H-convergence result for weak data. In this connection, an H-convergence result for weak data under some hypotheses is also proved

The cultural greatness preserved by cilappatikaram

This paper studies the cultural greatness preserved by Cilappatikaram. Tamil literary texts have ennumerated morals for good conduct of life. They reveal richness of life to human society and express some worthy ideas though past events are imagined. Cilappatikaram is a unique Tamil literary composition. Cankam texts have described upsets created in society due to association with harlots. The ethical texts like Tirukkural have condemned prostitution. Ilango Adikal composed Cilappatikaram considering past events and conditions of contemporary society. The epic shows how the association with harlots will affect family, society and country. Its excellence is preservation of cultural greatness. The poet achieves his object by portraying lives of Kovalan, Kannaki and Matavi. Cilappatikaram is the source for this research. Its object is to identify cultural complexities created by prostitution and social harmony that Ilanko wanted to preserve. Analytical, descriptive and comparative methodologies are preferred. Disorder created by harlots at the levels of family, society and country will be analysed. By descriptive method the poems are explained. The qualities of the characters are compared. Through this research the disorderliness created by relationship with harlots and the importance of preservation of culture could be identified

Significant advances have been made in the mariculture fin fishes in many parts of the world. In India two major cultivable fin fishes, namely, mullets and milk fish, have been used in the traditional culture practices and also in the scientific culture of fin fishes in ponds and pens. Among mullets, the striped mullet Mugil cephalus is a fast growing species and is commonly available on the east and west coasts of India. It is also an important table fish and has a good market both in the coastal and interior regions of our country
