Egy konfliktus konstrukciói. Térértelmezések Bős kapcsán = Constructs of a conflict. Spatial interpretations of the Bős case

This article is a case study based on field work regarding the conflict around the Bős (Gabčíkovo)-Nagymaros Dams project. The study ignores the usual approach to the topic (legal, environmental, political). Instead it tries to introduce the subject into the discourse of Bős as a locality. The analyses of all the field notes, interviews and mental maps suggest that the representation of reality might be explained with the help of contemporary theories of cultural studies. Some of these theories include the discontinuities of modernity, spatial representation in late modern society, the separation of space from place, its global and local connection, the metamorphosis of identity, and the metamorphosis of countryside. The repetitive motives in the recorded interviews provide the guidelines of the discourse of locality. The results show that while Hungary and Slovakia represent two easily described (and totally opposite) constructions of reality regarding the barrage project, the discourse of the locality is anything but unified or easily defined. This type of examination of the conflict reveals those micro-stories and social spaces that have been ignored in the papers written about the topic either in Hungary or Slovakia. It is, however, important for the locals and their relation to the power station defines their construction of reality. The case examined in the article was a catalyst for the local process of modernization. Although the main topic of this study is Bős, it does not deal with this location only. The processes observed here can happen (and do happen) in other places as well – with or without the hydropower station

Characterization of different aspects of selective NCX inhibition in the heart: from inotropy to arrhythmias

The cardiac sodium-calcium exchanger (NCX) has a pivotal role in the Ca2+ homeostasis as well as in several types of arrhythmias; therefore the potential therapeutic application of its modification was intensively studied in the past decade. However, the inotropic and antiarrhythmic effect of its inhibition has not yet been fully clarified due to the lack of appropriately selective inhibitor. The recently developed novel selective NCX inhibitors, ORM-10103 and especially ORM-10962, provided new insights in the understanding of NCX physiology as well as the possible therapeutic implications of these new potential drugs as novel antiarrhythmic agents. This thesis summarizes: 1) The pharmacological profile of the novel NCX inhibitor ORM-10962, compared its selectivity with that of the previously described compound, ORM-10103. ORM-10962 proved to be even more selective and exerts improved effectiveness on NCX current having EC50 values in the nanomolar range, without any influence on ICaL or other currents. 2) In contrast to previous inhibitors like SEA0400 or ORM-10103, we found marginal positive inotropic effect of the ORM-10962 without major influence on the action potential under normal condition. 3) Marginal but statistically significant reduction by ORM-10962 in the spontaneous firing rate of the atrial and Purkinje AP may indicate important role of NCX in the spontaneous pacemaker mechanism, which is in the line with the previously described coupled clock hypothesis. 4) We suggest that NCX inhibition could equally lead to positive and negative inotropy, depending on the actual value of NCX reversal potential. Selective NCX inhibition may have negative inotropic effect when Ca2+ load is coupled with marked increase of intracellular Na+ facilitating the reverse mode activity. This hypothesis was tested in dog Purkinje fibres, where digoxin induced DADs amplitude and incidence were significantly reduced by ORM-10962

"Értelem és érzelem" A lakossági ügyfelek gazdasági magatartása és a bankokkal kapcsolatos attitűdjei ("Sense and sensibility" Retail customer behaviours and attitudes towards banks)

_______ The global fi nancial and economic crisis created new competition in the market for retail banking, and in the areas of existing customer retention and new customers’ acquisition. The corresponding economic and social change called for new adaptive strategies on behalf of banks to better understand the economic behaviour of their customers. This paper focuses on certain relevant psychological, sociological and economic factors that tend to characterize customer behaviours and attitudes towards banks. With particular emphasis on highlighting the potential implications of relevant theories for the purposes of banks, our conceptual model incorporates elements of trust, monetary attitudes and underlying emotional components

RESILIENCE OF FOOD SUPPLY CHAINS – A DYNAMIC CAPABILITY APPROACH

    Get PDF
There are many examples of increasing risk exposure in supply chains in recent years. The Covid-19 pandemic proved to be a huge challenge in the last two years, and the war in Ukraine is currently creating uncertainty in the food industry. In our study, we specifically identify and examine risks threatening the food supply chains. In addition to classifying risks, we examine the dynamic capabilities that companies need to have when operating in the downstream supply chain processes in order to mitigate these risks. The research uses a qualitative methodology and explores the range of required corporate capabilities through interviews with manufacturers as focal companies of a food supply chain. We hypothesise that sensing capability and flexibility, as well as communication and coordination skills, will be key to managing threats. As a result of our study, we can ascertain that the security of supply chain operations does not only depend on supply chain capabilities

The effect of foliar fertilization in ecological maize production

    Get PDF
We examined the effect of foliar fertilization on the yield of maize in 2014. The experiment was set up on the area of an ecological farm in Hódmezővásárhely-Kútvölgy, Hungary. The trial was carried out in three replications. The soil was chernozem, the reaction of which was nearly neutral (pHkcl 6.86). Before setting up the experiment, the soil analysis data showed that it had proper nitrogen, plenty of phosphorous and very good potassium contents. In 2014, the amount of precipitation in the vegetation period of maize was higher by 264 mm than the average, but its distribution was uneven. The preceding crop was winter wheat. Fall tillage involved deep ploughing at 30-35 cm depth. Secondary tillage in spring was made by heavy harrow, and seedbed preparation was made by a combinator. The foliar fertilizer was applied two times during the vegetation period of maize in a dosage of 5 1/ha. We harvested the parcels by hand. We processed the obtained data by single factor variant analysis. The yield of the control plots was 11.3 t/ha, on the average of 3 replications, the foliar fertilization plots’ yield was 11.97 t/ha. The foliar fertilization increased the yield, but the difference between the average yields of control and foliar fertilization plots was not significant. Factual conclusion can be drawn only after the results of several years. We wish to continue our examinations
