A large section of the mining workers population in the country is engaged in mining sector. In spite of a very elaborate mining legislation in the country, it is felt that thereexist a number of gaps. These gaps need to be bridged. Certain amendments areon the anvil both at the level of the Central Government and also various StateGovernments, which would be of assistance to the prospective investors. This paper concentrates on analyzing and highlights the socio-economic conditions of closedmining workers. The aim of the study is assessing how the socio-economic problem is a prime factor in making the people to enter in the field of mining work. 50 samples were chosen by the convenient sampling method and study was conducted by adopting the empirical research design as an attempt has been made to describe the conditions of mining workers. As a result they develop unhygienic conditions in their living places and develop as slum-dwellers. The paper is based on research study conducted in Bharth Gold Mine LimitedBGML by the researcher/presenter where great portion of migrant population comes in search of jobs and they find mining work as an easy mode of earning

Assessment of Cleaner Production Level in Agro based Industries – A Fuzzy Logic Approach

    Get PDF
AbstractCleaner Production (CP) is a preventive environmental strategy and across the globe there are plenty of success stories of its initiatives which have not successfully transcended to realize the fruits. In this context, there is a need to promote CP initiative to help the industry, society and environment. Hence, present level of CP is to be assessed which facilitates exploring the potential for further CP. This underscores the need for developing a methodology to estimate the CP level. Generalizing the evaluation of assessment of CP is difficult due to heterogeneous nature of operations in industries. The application of fuzzy logic assists in addressing this complexity by offering a methodology that can be adapted to any type of organization by identifying the appropriate variables. This paper presents a model developed to assess the CP status and implementation of this model on 22 cashew processing units. In the assessment of CP level, contributing parameters viz., process efficiency, environmental degradation, and sustainability aspects are considered. Various dimensions of each contributing parameter is identified and measured in the overall estimation of CP level. The result of the study has useful policy implications for catalyzing the CP initiatives

Significance of Creep-Fatigue Interactions in Strctural Integrity Assessment

    Get PDF
Creep-fatigue interaction is a special phenomena that have a detrimental effect on the performance of metal parts of components operating at elevated temperatures. This paper deals with the simultaneous interactions between creep and fatigue. The effect of hold time, hold position, temperature and creep ductility on creep-fatigue interaction life and damage modes of several high temperature alloys are presented in detail. The inherent deficiencies and potentially serious consequences of over-or under- design by using the classical Linear Time and Cycle-Fraction rule for predicting structural durability under high temperature creep-fatigue conditions are presented. The potential of a strain based approach in accurately predicting creep-fatigue life for ensuring structural integrity is outlined

Vibrational Spectroscopic Studies of Phase Transitions in Organic Molecular Crystals and Dicarboxylic Acids

Order-disorder transitions in 2,3-benzothiophene and cyclopentyl- 1-thiaethane as well as the vibronic effects in the phase transitions of the alkali metal salts of TCNQ have been investigated by infrared spectroscopy. In all these cases, marked variations in band intensities accompany the transitions. Existence of two crystalline forms of methylcyclohexane has been established by infrared spectroscopy. Phase transitions of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids have been examined with particular attention to the transiti_ ons in malonic, succinic, and glutaric acids

Korteweg - de Vries solitons with different co-ordinate stretchings

    Get PDF
The differences between the soliton solutions of the K-dV equation for a homogeneous, collisionless plasma, consisting of cold ions and isothermal electrons arising due to the two different sets of stretched co-ordinates have been discussed. In particular, the differences between the amplitudes and the widths of the solitons and their variations with the soliton velocity have been indicated. Further, the experimental implications of these differences and also of the two sets of stretched co-ordinates have been discussed

Impact of Capital Budgeting Decision on Profitability of Firm – Selected Listed Automobile Companies in India

Purpose: Profitability plays an important function in the business operations and determines the value by which a business is held. The study set to investigate the impact of capital budgeting decisions on profitability of Automobile firms. Capital budgeting particularly addressed five areas of the study that included capital budgeting decisions (acquisition of long-term assets, replacement of long-term assets, investment appraisal techniques, outsourcing expenditure and working capital decisions) had a biggest and significant effect on profitability of the organizations.   Methodology: This study basically involved survey of the Automobile Companies listed in NSE in India. Any business that seeks to invest its resources in a project without understanding the risks and returns involved would be held as irresponsible by its owners or shareholders. This study considered 10 companies are taken from Automobile sectors, which is listed in NSE. Correlation and paired T test were used.   Findings: This study basically involved survey of the Automobile Companies listed in NSE in India. The findings set up that there was relationship between the independent variables of capital budgeting decisions and profitability. The study was examined the outcome of capital budgeting Impact on profitability of listed firms in India. The independent variables for the study were Capital Budgeting and Profitability.   Research implications:  it is evident that Maruti and Tata Motors produced positive and statistically significant values for this study (high t-values (12.37 and 11.26), p =0.00) respectively. Eicher Motor resulted a Lowest but insignificant values (t= 2.11, p = 0.07).   Originality/Outcome: The study found that positive impact of capital budgeting on profitability of the firms under the study
