Validation of DPOAE screening conducted by village health workers in a rural community with real-time click evoked tele-auditory brainstem response
OBJECTIVE : This study assessed the validity of DPOAE screening conducted by village health workers (VHWs) in a rural community. Real-time click evoked tele-auditory brainstem response (tele-ABR) was used as the gold standard to establish validity. DESIGN : A cross-sectional design was utilised to compare the results of screening by VHWs to those obtained via tele-ABR. STUDY SAMPLES : One hundred and nineteen subjects (0 to 5âyears) were selected randomly from a sample of 2880 infants and young children who received DPOAE screening by VHWs. Method: Real time tele-ABR was conducted by using satellite or broadband internet connectivity at the village. An audiologist located at the tertiary care hospital conducted tele-ABR testing through a remote computing paradigm. Tele-ABR was recorded using standard recording parameters recommended for infants and young children. Wave morphology, repeatability and peak latency data were used for ABR analysis. RESULTS : Tele-ABR and DPOAE findings were compared for 197 ears. The sensitivity of DPOAE screening conducted by the VHW was 75%, and specificity was 91%. The negative and positive predictive values were 98.8% and 27.2%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS : The validity of DPOAE screening conducted by trained VHW was acceptable. This study supports the engagement of grass-root workers in community-based hearing health care provision.Indian Council of Medical Research (No.5/8/10-4(Oto)10-NCD-I).http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/iija20hj2019Speech-Language Pathology and Audiolog
A Review on Broker Based Cloud Service Model
Cloud computing emerged as a utility oriented computing that facilitates resource sharing under pay-as-you-go model. Nowadays, cloud offerings are not limited to range of services and anything can be shared as a service through the Internet. In this work, a detailed literature survey with respect to cloud service discovery and composition has been accounted. A proposed
architecture with the inclusion of cloud broker is presented in our work. It focuses the importance of suitable service selection and its ranking towards fulfilling the customerâs service requirements. The proposed cloud broker advocates techniques such as reasoning and decision making capabilities for the improved
cloud service selection and composition

New Insights into Dietary Pterostilbene: Sources, Metabolism, and Health Promotion Effects
Pterostilbene (PTS), a compound most abundantly found in blueberries, is a natural analog of resveratrol. Several plant species, such as peanuts and grapes, produce PTS. While resveratrol has been extensively studied for its antioxidant properties, recent evidence also points out the diverse therapeutic potential of PTS. Several studies have identified the robust pharmacodynamic features of PTS, including better intestinal absorption and elevated hepatic stability than resveratrol. Indeed, due to its higher bioavailability paired with reduced toxicity compared to other stilbenes, PTS has become an attractive drug candidate for the treatment of several disease conditions, including diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and aging. This review article provides an extensive summary of the nutraceutical potential of PTS in various disease conditions while discussing the crucial mechanistic pathways implicated. In particular, we share insights from our studies about the Nrf2-mediated effect of PTS in diabetes and associated complications. Moreover, we elucidate the important sources of PTS and discuss in detail its pharmacokinetics and the range of formulations and routes of administration used across experimental studies and human clinical trials. Furthermore, this review also summarizes the strategies successfully used to improve dietary availability and the bio-accessibility of PTS
Hydrocarbon reserves of the South China Sea: Implications for regional energy security
International audienceThe countries such as China, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei that border South China Sea region have immense stakes in exploring and exploiting the natural resources of the region including hydrocarbon. More than the hydrocarbon reserves, the South China Sea is home to World's high-networth trade route that brings the interests of non-geographic entities to this region. Further, the purported reserves of hydrocarbon in the region are in the orders of Persian Gulf but are not yet properly explored and the reserves recovered owing to territorial and non-claimant stakeholder's influences/in-terventions. This paper is a synopsis of information on the hydrocarbon reserves of the South China Sea region, and evaluates the territorial and extraterritorial interests in the light of energy security and equitable development and utilization of natural resources from a geological perspective. We also suggest several measures for future consideration and implementation
