    Synthesis of 2-Aminofurans by Sequential [2+2] Cycloaddition-Nucleophilic Addition of 2-Propyn-1-ols with Tetracyanoethylene and Amine-Induced Transformation into 6-Aminopentafulvenes

    Synthesis of 2-aminofuran derivatives with an azulene or N,N-dimethylanilino substituent was established by the formal [2+2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization of 3-(1-azulenyl or N,N-dimethylanilino)-2-propyn-1-ols with tetracyanoethylene, followed by intramolecular nucleophilic addition to the initially formed tetracyanobutadiene moiety of the internal hydroxyl group that come from 2-propyn-1-ol. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions with short reaction period. The products of the reaction are readily available through a simple purification procedure. 2-Aminofuran derivatives obtained by this reaction could be converted into 6-aminofulvene derivatives upon reaction with various amines. The structures of 2-aminofuran and 6-aminopentafulvene with a N,N-dimethylanilino substituent were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis.ArticleCHEMISTRY-A EUROPEAN JOURNAL. 23(21):5126-5136 (2017)journal articl

    The present paper offers further evidence for the effectiveness of teaching international students at a Japanese university how to write Japanese academic papers, applying the concepts of “Move” and “Step.” The existing research claims that teaching about the move concept helps learners improve on their academic writing but offers limited evidence. In this study, we used a design-based research approach to systematically examine the effectiveness of move-based teaching. Having used the instructional design theory in designing three target courses where the move-based teaching method was employed, we assessed the effectiveness of the teaching method through the pre and post assessments of student work in these courses with a rubric. As a result of assessing sixteen international students’ article introductions obtained from repeated classroom implementations, we consistently found a considerable improvement in the quality of their work, demonstrating the effectiveness of the move-based teaching

    逆シャノン定理による通信路の再現に関する研究

    2002年に Bennett, Shor, Smolin, Thapliyalによって逆シャノン定理が示された.これは,任意に与えられた通信路の通信路容量を越える符号化レートを持つ適切な符号と恒等通信路を用いる事により,その通信路を再現出来ることを証明したものである.しかし,逆シャノン定理について実用的な符号を用いたときの理論的な考察はなされていない.また,実用的な符号を用いた例も,これまでのところ報告されていなかった.実用的な符号の代表例として BCH符号がある.BCH符号は,Boseと Ray-Chaudhurui (1960)および独立に Hocquenghem (1959)により発見され,彼らにちなんで命名されている.BCH符号は代数的符号の一種であり,誤り訂正が効率的に行なえ,復号が容易であるという利点を持っている.さらに冗長度をある程度自由に設定できるのも利点である.上記の2点からBCH符号を用いた通信路の再現の例は,実用的な符号を用いた逆シャノン定理の理論的背景を理解することに大きく貢献するものである.本研究では,実用的な符号である BCH符号を用いて逆シャノン定理の検証を行った.逆シャノン定理における通信路の再現とは,任意に与えられた nビットの通信路をkビットの恒等通信路を用いて再現することである.ここで,k/nは符号化レートと呼ばれ,小さい方が望ましい.逆シャノン定理は,最適な符号を使用することで,通信路の再現に必要な符号化レートの下限がほぼ通信路容量であることを保証している.そこで,本研究ではBCH符号の符号化レートと通信路の再現成功確率の関係を調べた.その結果,BCH符号のクラスでも,逆シャノン定理の予想に基づいた通信路の再現が可能であることがわかった.しかも,通信路容量よりも大きい符号化レートで,通信路の再現成功確率が0から1に変わるしきい値が確認できた.電気通信大学201

    Synthesis and Electrochemical Properties of Azulene-Substituted Tetracyanobutadiene and Dicyanoquinodimethane Chromophores Connected with Naphthalene Cores

    Azulene-substituted tetracyanobutadienes (AzTCBDs) and dicyanoquinodimethanes (AzDCNQs) connected with naphthalene cores were prepared by the reaction of 1-azulenylalkynes with tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) and 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) in a formal [2 + 2] cycloaddition-retroelectrocyclization. The characteristic intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) characters were investigated by using UV/Vis spectroscopy and theoretical calculation. The redox behaviors of AzTCBDs and AzDCNQs were examined by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry, which revealed their properties of multi-electron transfer depending on the number of AzTCBD and AzDCNQ moieties.     Segmenting Continuous Motions with Hidden Semi-markov Models and Gaussian Processes

    Humans divide perceived continuous information into segments to facilitate recognition. For example, humans can segment speech waves into recognizable morphemes. Analogously, continuous motions are segmented into recognizable unit actions. People can divide continuous information into segments without using explicit segment points. This capacity for unsupervised segmentation is also useful for robots, because it enables them to flexibly learn languages, gestures, and actions. In this paper, we propose a Gaussian process-hidden semi-Markov model (GP-HSMM) that can divide continuous time series data into segments in an unsupervised manner. Our proposed method consists of a generative model based on the hidden semi-Markov model (HSMM), the emission distributions of which are Gaussian processes (GPs). Continuous time series data is generated by connecting segments generated by the GP. Segmentation can be achieved by using forward filtering-backward sampling to estimate the model's parameters, including the lengths and classes of the segments. In an experiment using the CMU motion capture dataset, we tested GP-HSMM with motion capture data containing simple exercise motions; the results of this experiment showed that the proposed GP-HSMM was comparable with other methods. We also conducted an experiment using karate motion capture data, which is more complex than exercise motion capture data; in this experiment, the segmentation accuracy of GP-HSMM was 0.92, which outperformed other methods
