The reliability of the equipment on the plan is the most important parameter to be considered and improve. This parameter will be determining the equipment operating performance and the maintenance cost efficiency for the plan. The most common method used in improve the reliability of equipment is Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM). The main aims for this project are to study the concept of theoretical RCM analysis and RCM implementation at CUF Kertih. The main similarity and differences of these two concepts will be identified. The others aim is to assess the Equipment Criticality of the LOX process pump for 2007-2009 period. This analysis will determine the criticality of equipment in the pump and will prioritize the maintenance effort. The FMEA also implemented to identify the major failure causes for the equipment. For this project, the theoretical RCM analysis and the RCM implementation at CUFK will be study and analyzed to make comparison between these two concepts. For the case study, there are two analysis that will perform, Equipment Criticality Analysis (ECA) and FMEA. For ECA, this analysis will identify the major pump equipment that are effect the plan in term of economic, health and safety, and environment. For FMEA, this analysis will identify the pump standard performance, the functional failure of the critical pump equipment and also will identify the failure cause of the equipment functional failure

The function of whistle-blowing as an effective internal control mechanism has long been accepted around the globe. Several individual factors have been considered as predictive variables of whistle-blowing intention. However, findings are still inconclusive. Using the theory of planned behaviour as a framework, this study examines the relationship between the selected predictive variables (internal locus of control, work experience and ethics training) and whistle-blowing intention. Data were collected randomly from 311 supervisors within large manufacturing companies in Malaysia. Applying multiple regression analysis, results indicated that work experience and ethics training are significantly related to whistle-blowing intention. On the other hand, there is no significant relationship between internal locus of control and whistle-blowing intention. Implications for theory and practice from the findings are discussedwhistle-blowing intention, theory of planned behaviour, internal locus of control, work experience, ethics training, Malaysia

The passive microwave TRMM Microwave Imager (TMI) sensor which is one of the payloads of the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) satellite was launched in 1997 by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA). The TMI provides daily maps, 3 day average, weekly and monthly binary data via internet that can be used to retrieve geophysical parameters such as sea surface temperature (SST), 10 meter surface wind speed using 11 GHz channel, 10 meter surface wind speed using 37 GHz channel, atmospheric water vapour, liquid cloud water and precipitation rates. The SST study over the South China Sea was carried out using the 10.7 GHz channel of the TMI. The advantage of using this data is that the SST can be measured through clouds that are nearly transparent on this channel. This is a distinct advantage over the traditional infrared SST observations that require a cloud-free field of view. In this study, multitemporal TMI binary data were processed using FORTRAN Programming Language to evaluate the SST variations with time over the study area. The 3-day, weekly and monthly binary files are similar to the daily TMI binary files. All data consists of six maps with grid size of 0.25o by 0.25o and each file can be read as a 1440, 320, 6 array. For the data processing, the data values fall between 0 and 250 that need to be scaled to obtain meaningful geophysical data. The TMI scanning system causes striping that contains 0 or invalid data. In-situ temperature values were taken at locations where useful satellite data are available i.e. no striping. Regression analysis was carried out using the SST from TMI data and in-situ data obtained from the Meteorological Department of Malaysia. The two-dimensional scatter plot between TMI data and in-situ data gives a R2 value of 0.92 and RMSE of 0.3oC. The SST during the north east monsoon period was slightly lower than the SST during the south west monsoon. The study shows that TMI satellite data can be used to derive SST over large areas of the sea

The 14th General Election, the Fall of Barisan Nasional, and Political Development in Malaysia, 1957-2018

The results of the recent 2018 general election (GE14) in Malaysia were exceptional. The ruling party - Barisan Nasional (BN) - was ousted from power after over six decades of authoritarian rule, by a new opposition coalition - the Pakatan Harapan (PH). In this historic election, BN lost all the federal states in Peninsular Malaysia except for the two less developed ones of Perlis and Pahang. BN was also defeated in Sabah for the second time since its dramatic recapture in 1995. However, these results are not as surprising if one looks at the outcome from its historical and developmental perspectives. The indication of the breakdown of the one-party dominant state of Malaysia can (at least) be traced back to 10 years ago - since the 2008 general election (GE12). BN then lost several parliamentary seats in the urban centres, even with a less unified opposition. It had also lost four states on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, and had been fairly incompetent in reclaiming control over Selangor and Penang since that particular election. Five years later, in the 2013 general election (GE13), the results aggravated BN. It had lost its popular votes to the then opposition coalition - the Pakatan Rakyat (PR). The main objectives of this article, therefore, are twofold. First, it intends to shed light on the recent general elections through historical and developmental approaches by linking them to the electoral results, and political development in Malaysia, respective to GE12 and GE13. Second, it strives to make available for analysis the arguments on how the opposition pact managed to unseat BN in GE14. The analysis in this article is based on the data gathered by the author through a mixture of media studies, library research, and direct observation - as this author was one of the official observers appointed by the Election Commission of Malaysia for GE14. The main argument of this article on the breakthrough of PH to the federal government is that the opposition managed to reshape the multiparty electoral system to a "two-plus-one party system" from late 2016, which boosted the level of political competition between the two main parties in Malaysia - namely, BN and PH - in GE14. Four major factors have been identified as constituting the triumph of PH and the fall of BN in the election. These are: the existence of a credible representative and strong opposition, with the inclusion of Mahathir and two Malay/Bumiputra ("the natives") political parties; the rupture of the elites within the ruling regime; the presence of impactful issues surrounding Najib’s administration; and, the advancement of information and com-munications technology as well as its impact on the emergence of a digital and much more participative society in Malaysia

Automotive players that neglects post purchase have suffered poor sales as consumers no longer tolerate with mediocre services. Not only automotive players produced low quality car but also bad operational facilities when servicing their car. Resulting in low brand experience and consumers are left unsatisfied with their car purchase. However, brand experience has received enormous attention by researchers over the decades. Evidently, past research revealed that brand experience plays a vital role in understanding desired outcome such as brand trust, brand loyalty, brand community, brand attachment and brand engagement. In fact, brand experience has been in the spotlight by both academic and practitioners within design literature, thus bringing two perspectives together. Mehrabian and Russell theory was employed as the theoretical foundation in developing present conceptual framework. This study emphasizes on using PADI model as a tool to measure the new brand experience scale. The significance of this study, lies in the fact that, it attempts to examine the antecedents of brand experience such as servicescape, brand image and servicescape which in turn investigates the consequences within Malaysia national automotive industry

Electricity is one of the important sources of energy and is vital for the process of the country’s economic growth. The issues of growing electricity consumption and heavy electricity subsidies have raised the attention of the government. However, the majority of the previous studies that specialize on the demand side of electricity were focused on total electricity consumption. Thus, this paper aims to provide the background analysis of electricity consumption trends with the focus on the four main economic sectors in Malaysia such as the industrial, commercial, mining and agricultural. The purposes were to examine the relationship between electricity consumption, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and price of electricity based on panel data for the period 2002 to 2012. The sectoral electricity consumption model was tested using econometric techniques such as Panel Cointegration, Panel Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS) and Panel Granger Causality tests. The Panel Cointegration Test confirmed an existence of a stable long run relationship among the variables. The results from the panel FMOLS estimation revealed that the electricity consumption in industrial, commercial and mining sectors was positively responsive to GDP changes. In the agricultural sector, GDP had a negative effect on electricity consumption. Moreover, the higher electricity price tended to increase and decrease electricity consumption in the industrial sector and commercial sector respectively. Nonetheless, the results of the electricity price were not significant in the mining and agricultural sectors. For all the sectors, an increase in GDP had a positive effect on electricity consumption. Finally, the Panel Granger Causality Test detected a relationship running from economic growth to electricity consumption. The results obtained indicated that policy maker must be careful in the formulation of energy policy, thus suggesting that the policy should be focused on the electricity consumption in each secto

Modern agriculture mostly relies on chemicals in order to control insect-pest resulting in the deterioration and imbalance of the ecosystem in the paddy field. Additionally, climate factors also have fraction towards ecosystem, hence, it affected on the diversity and distribution of insects. Insect diversity studies were conducted for five weeks of sampling period at paddy (Oryza sativa L.) field, Sawah Sempadan, Selangor to assess the population diversity of insect pest and beneficial insect, thus, can evaluate the relationship between insect pest and beneficial insect with climate factors. Insects were collected randomly by using yellow sticky traps and sweeping net. Insect diversity in Sawah Sempadan, Selangor paddy field has been changing over the time which the increasing value of diversity is proportional to week sampling. The results were indicated as Homoptera (4.37) as it had the highest diversity of insects, but, Hemiptera (32.60%) as the dominant order and the negative correlation between insect populations toward humidity climate. Araneidae is the only predator of insects pest that has positive correlation to temperature climate. Araneidae (beneficial organism) such as Riptortus linearis and Nezara viridula (insect-pest) were recorded as negative correlation. Hence, it showed that the beneficial insects are highly potential to conserve ecology and suppress insect-pest in paddy field

    Get PDF
Measuring body motion is crucial to identify any abnormal neuromuscular control, biomechanical disorders and injury prevention in various applications such as rehabilitation [1], [2], sport science [3],[4], surveillance [5], and virtual reality [6]. The measurement can be performed by using vision-based [7]-[9] and non-vision-based [10]-[12] systems. The vision-based systems use optical sensors, such as cameras, to track human movements. Whilst the non-vision-based systems employ sensor technology, such as magnetic, and inertial, attached to the human body to collect human movement information. The vision-based systems offer a more accurate system, however, in this work, the non-vision-based systems are employed as it offers portability as one of the advantages
